Still can’t believe the Halos didn’t get more pitching... a top third starting staff and this is a legit team...

Wish the Sox didn't open up on the west coast. This 7pm start time conflicts with March Madness....

If the playoffs started today, the Tigers would be at least a WC. Let the hunt for October begin

On a serious note, Jordan Zimmerman really struggled through injuries since they signed him away from the Nats a couple of years ago. Pretty cool to see him get through a full offseason healthy and pitch 6 2/3 perfect innings. I'm sure a lot of that was the Blue Jays' lackluster lineup, but still nice to see him perform like that to start the season.

Detroit has scored seven runs in five games with a team BA of .140.
Shutout twice and has one run in another. They won two in extra innings, going into the tenth on one of those at 0-0. The other extra inning game amounts to four of their seven run total.

Yeah they are BAD. Pitching has been surprisingly stout, starting and relief, over the first week, but this current production isn't sustainable. The woes in the batters box should improve slightly but not drastically.

I expect them to sell again at the deadline. No one will touch Cabrera's contract but they have a solid trade-able piece in Nick Castellanos that should garner a solid prospect package to the right team. Hit just under .300 last year with 20+ HRs and around 100 RBIs, and he's just now settling into his prime. Sell him while the getting is good.

Except that Jordan Zimmerman has been great so far for the Tigers. In two games against the Blue Jays and the Yankees in 13.2 innings, he has given up 7 hits and 1 run with an ERA of 0.66.

2019 League Ranks:
• 4th in AL in IP (13.2)
• 9th in AL in SO (10)
• 7th in AL in ERA (0.66)
• 10th in AL in WHIP (0.59)

the offense is so futile right now... and I've seen this movie before. With this core group the minute the offense wakes up the pitching (which has been good thus far) will fall apart.

Sox would be 0 for the season if it wasn't for a 9th inning pinch hit homer from Mitch Moreland.

KC will contend for the cellar in the Central.

Detroit, White Sox, Indians, Royals have now been mentioned. Any Twins fans?

I was about to feel sorry for Chris Davis 0-49 at the plate and getting a lot of media over it...then I went to check his contract. $161 mill, so get a problem.

At least last night he actually hit the ball and didn’t strike out every at bat. He actually hit the ball good last night just couldn’t find a hole.

Is it too early to believe this could be some crazy magical season yet for the Mariners?

This whole thing speaks so strongly to the issue I have with current baseball... the modern game (blame analytics, LaRussa or whatever) sucks for the average fan. I used to battle up when people said baseball was boring.... it kind of is now. No hit and runs, rarely steal, rarely hit to contact (which plays in here)... In any other era Davis would be choking up, adjusting his swing, making contact and would have snapped out of this thing weeks ago. In this era however, stay you son, keep swinging for that fence because some computer nerd ran a program that insists you score more runs that way...

All this talk of shortening games and younger viewers... you want to do that without changing the rules and flow of the game? Move away from the analytical 'swing for the fences on every pitch and make no adjustments at the plate' approach and move away from the obsessive LaRussa style pitch count and take your time between each pitch style of managing and find a way to promote the Whitey Herzog, early 80's Cardinals style where there is action almost every inning, runs scored or not... and trust your pitchers to do their damned jobs.

PS: I love Joey Votto.

That's what killed Mike Scioscia at the end too btw,... a successful small ball manager used to letting his guys go out and pitch was forced to fit his now square peg style into a round analytical hole and he became this over-managing guy with the pitching staff who did next to nothing with the lineup because some spreadsheet told him not to.
