I wish they'd do away with the ASG. These guys play enough games as is, instead we should be giving everyone a 10 day 'get right' window where they do some community-relations work and let their bodies rest for the back half.

I'm certain I'm in the minority
I love the ASG but your point is certainly valid. I think the NHL does a nice job of giving the guys a rest for the all-star break. I guess it might be hard to fit in that kind of break with a schedule that runs from late March/early April all the way through October.

I think the other way to solve it is by asking, do we still need 162 games? Why not an even 150?

The same reason that the owners have no interest in scheduling double headers....... $$$$$$

150 games with some double headers thrown in the mix, we can finish by October. Nothing like having your championship scheduled to compete in cold weather.

Arron Boone is straight trash. And they better get their triple a ready. Judge and Soto are gonna be bean bags.

Definitely fewer games although MLB would never go for that. Purists will argue against it purely on records but most, if not all; of the attainable records have already been broken. Nobody is gonna break Dimaggio’s 56 game hit streak. No pitcher is gonna win 30 games. Doubtful anyone bats .400 again. I think it’s possible but not 162 game schedule. Williams did it in 1941 when they played 154 games.

Start the season later in the spring and end it before November. I know it’s hyperbolic, but a team could go 162-0 and lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs (after a 1st round bye). It makes no sense to keep expanding the playoffs yet insist on 162 game season

Do kids even like All Star Games these days?

I think I stopped giving a shit somewhere in my early teens about all of them.

I stopped caring when they pulled the home field advantage rule for the World Series. I might be in the minority, but I really enjoyed that rule. Gave some incentive to make the game interesting.

The last two years have been good games considering what they are. I know it wasn't much but getting to see Skenes and Judge was nice.

I agree with both of you. Those were ugly.

At least we had a competent national anthem singer last night

Greatest baseball player in a generation... places for a trash franchise and can't stay healthy.
When he does play he’s awesome but looks like he’s just broken down at this point. Mickey Mantle had worse injuries along w/ being a functional alcoholic and accomplished much more individually. Griffey broke down too but put up crazy individual stats.

One of my college roommates/teammates was from Cincinnati. Had Tommy Johns surgery and rehabbed with Scott Williamson (former closer) at the Reds facility.

He said that Griffey Jr. didn’t do shit. Laziest dude in the place. Showed up when he wanted and left too on his on time.

Don’t doubt it. My assumption on his late career injuries was that he was able to get by on God-given athleticism until he got older. Then it was evident that you don’t bounce back from injuries from crashing against a wall like you used to and you actually have to work hard to get back to baseline. The HOF portion of his career basically ended a few years into his Cincy contract. Everything from then on was numbers padding.

That same roommate massed about 25 lbs of straight muscle over a 6 week Xmas break. Hmmmm…. He’d also piss himself (all the time) when we’d get drunk. Went through a few couches.

We were in Lewiston my senior year bar hopping and Conover had left with a lady. Ok, whatever…. Fucker was blowing our room up with calls about 6am because he pissed her bed and then split. Lol. We had to to wake a GA to go get him before coach woke.

All you dads with right handed kids…make them swing lefty. Pain in the ass to teach but it’s worth it. Having the dominant hand on the bottom is a game changer. Free the wrist, too. Point A to B…that’s a how you launch 500 ft

Griffey Sr didn’t have to do that for Jr b/c he was Lefty/Lefty like his pops. Bloodlines trump all that shit. Look at Craig Biggio. He had two sons who were good enough to play baseball at ND. Cavan was pretty good and parlayed that to a MLB career. He’s not a future HOFer or even an AS but he’s a Major Leaguer. His brother Conor barely played at ND. I think he was mostly a PH but the Astros took a flyer on him in the 34th round. Never made the Majors but doubt he gets drafted if not for his last name. That said, it’s amazing how many current players have dads or uncles who played MLB. It matters.

What’s your opinion on the following current guys being on a HOF path or already a no doubt HOFer:

Nolan Arenado
Paul Goldschmidt
Bryce Harper
Mike Trout
Mookie Betts
Freddie Freeman
Aaron Judge
Shohei Ohtani
Jose Ramirez
Jose Altuvé
Corey Seager
Ronald Acũna, Jr
Salvador Perez
Manny Machado
Rafael Devers
Francisco Lindor

Some obviously have to string together some more productive seasons (hence being on a HOF path) to make a definitive decision on but for the sake of this post, let’s assume they continue to produce at the current rate before they’re out of their prime.
