I love the ASG but your point is certainly valid. I think the NHL does a nice job of giving the guys a rest for the all-star break. I guess it might be hard to fit in that kind of break with a schedule that runs from late March/early April all the way through October.

Definitely fewer games although MLB would never go for that. Purists will argue against it purely on records but most, if not all; of the attainable records have already been broken. Nobody is gonna break Dimaggio’s 56 game hit streak. No pitcher is gonna win 30 games. Doubtful anyone bats .400 again. I think it’s possible but not 162 game schedule. Williams did it in 1941 when they played 154 games.
I stopped caring when they pulled the home field advantage rule for the World Series. I might be in the minority, but I really enjoyed that rule. Gave some incentive to make the game interesting.

When he does play he’s awesome but looks like he’s just broken down at this point. Mickey Mantle had worse injuries along w/ being a functional alcoholic and accomplished much more individually. Griffey broke down too but put up crazy individual stats.
One of my college roommates/teammates was from Cincinnati. Had Tommy Johns surgery and rehabbed with Scott Williamson (former closer) at the Reds facility.
Don’t doubt it. My assumption on his late career injuries was that he was able to get by on God-given athleticism until he got older. Then it was evident that you don’t bounce back from injuries from crashing against a wall like you used to and you actually have to work hard to get back to baseline. The HOF portion of his career basically ended a few years into his Cincy contract. Everything from then on was numbers padding.
That same roommate massed about 25 lbs of straight muscle over a 6 week Xmas break. Hmmmm…. He’d also piss himself (all the time) when we’d get drunk. Went through a few couches.
Griffey Sr didn’t have to do that for Jr b/c he was Lefty/Lefty like his pops. Bloodlines trump all that shit. Look at Craig Biggio. He had two sons who were good enough to play baseball at ND. Cavan was pretty good and parlayed that to a MLB career. He’s not a future HOFer or even an AS but he’s a Major Leaguer. His brother Conor barely played at ND. I think he was mostly a PH but the Astros took a flyer on him in the 34th round. Never made the Majors but doubt he gets drafted if not for his last name. That said, it’s amazing how many current players have dads or uncles who played MLB. It matters.
