Thank God this was foiled. The DC area is my home when I'm not at ND and where my parents live. They just flew in to Dulles today coming home from a vacation. Big ups to the security personnel who disrupted this attack.

I think it's time for another computer virus to hit Iran.

Cool excuse to start a war in Iran, government bros.

Unlike Saddam Hussein, who was scared shitless of the US (and Iran), and Kim Jong-il, who is just doing his crap for cash....the folks in charge of Iran are actually crazy enough to do something.

Read up on the interrogation of Saddam Hussein.

He was posturing to prevent an attack from Iran.

PS, I was anti-Bush - so this isn't biased

Having spent much time in the middle east and familiar with operations and intel I can say that the Iranians are more than capable of this and much more. Without getting into specifics I can tell you that they have been behind plots, attacks etc... For some time. I'm just happy that this time we were able to stop it.

being as the UN is basically inhabited by like-minded (with Iran) folks from the region...

You must have missed the wikileaks dump. It included diplomatic cables from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, etc. begging us to attack Iran.

Iran and North Korea have few friends at the UN.

maybe on the security council...

Iran doesn't do what they have been doing (Nucs) without some backing from members of the African, Asian, and even eastern european groups...maybe mischaracterized by saying "region" in my original comments...but they have backing...money and support...if thats friends then they got 'em.

being as we have no diplomatic ties...being as the UN is basically inhabited by like-minded (with Iran) folks from the region...being as an act of aggression was perpetrated on our soil...being as we have no economic leverage with Iran...IMHO we have few viable options beyond forced regime change. (aka Iraq2)

So be it...

There were a lot of claims and suppositions in that article- very little hard proof tying the alleged terrorist to the Iranian regime. Very thin gruel if we're looking for another war...

Iran has a long running policy of undercutting US policy in the Middle East, sometimes using guerilla tactics that can be described as terrorism. It does not have a record of picking direct fights with the US- it's very hard for me to believe that someone with any authority in the Iranian regime made the calculation that assassinating a Saudi ambassador on US soil would be worth the cost. I would expect a much greater level of proof before words like war even enter the conversation.

I'm kind of suspicious about the timing of this.

Holder and others will be subpoenaed in a few days for their roles in the Fast & Furious debacle. Something just doesn't seem right. Apparently, Obama was briefed on the assassination plot back in June. Why wait until now to do something?

...don't disagree...response is always prefaced with "presuming it is true"...even if I didn't say it.

Holder sounds lined up to hang it on Iran...I don't like Holder at all, nor BO...but I refuse to believe they would in any way manufacture, distort, stretch anything associated with information that is, in effect, an act of war...I mean these guys have skewered W, and never gave him room for bad intel...just no way they go there themselves.

For Holder to even allude to Iran...I believe there is fire there my friend.
