I know, that's why I italicized "war" lol. Should have used italics. Not sure if we are talking about he same article you quoted, but loved the one that looked across the ME describing different pushes and pulls. New several, but a few gave me some additional insight. Good stuff.

not sure what a wise response truly is in this world.

Wisest thing anyone has said in this entire thread. So many intertwining issues and complexitiies. How could any of us know what the right thing to do is right now?

I didn't mean to imply that there's a magic bullet for dealing with Islamism. But 15 years after 9/11, we have a long list of stuff that we know doesn't work-- invasions and attempts at nation-building chief among them.

Agree. Sadly the entire ME is more stable with brutal dictators running the show. They have what we don't (nor should)... the stomach to commit enough atrocities to keep the "radicals" in some sort of check.

people need to stop reposting articles from the daily mail. that newspaper is a total rag

How is that relevant? There are about 100 different news sources reporting the same facts. I grabbed the daily mail because it was the first link I saw with decent video.

Well considering we're taking a relatively hands off approach and there's only one American killed in action in the past year in Syria/Iraq, I'd say we've learned a lot.

The comment you quoted was referencing how we'll react when the next terrorist attack occurs on US soil.

Honduras arrests five Syrians headed to US with stolen passports

Honduran authorities have arrested five Syrians intending to make it to the United States with stolen Greek passports, triggering alarm Wednesday in the wake of the Paris attacks launched by Syria-linked jihadists.

"Five Syrian citizens have been detained and will be taken to our offices to be investigated because it is suspected they are carrying false documents, passports stolen in Greece," a police spokesman, Anibal Baca, told reporters.

The Syrians were arrested on Tuesday as they flew into Toncontin airport serving the Honduran capital and failed to make it past airport security checks, Baca said.

They had traveled by air from Syria to Lebanon, then to Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica and then to Honduras.

From there they were to make their way to Honduras' second city of San Pedro Sula with the aim of going overland through Guatemala then Mexico and on to the United States, Baca told AFP.

The reasons for the Syrians' trip was not immediately known, and Honduran police were considering the possibility that they were refugees fleeing the war in Syria.

"We are not saying they are terrorists," Baca said. "They are being investigated for using false passports. It could be they are fleeing war. That is being investigated."

Countries involved in the Syria conflict, including the United States, have been on alert for possible attacks since the killings in Paris last Friday and the October 31 bombing of a Russian passenger jet leaving Egypt.

Both attacks have been linked to the Islamic State group based in Iraq and Syria. One of the gunmen in the Paris attacks was carrying a Syrian passport used to transit through Greece, though authorities have not confirmed that he was the man in the document.

I don't think refugees would take that path.... I'm familiar with that area and a bit shocked they were stopped/caught....

What compounds the issue is that ISIS had taken complete control of a passport agency in Syria and have been churning out real passports.

ISIS is pissing off just about everyone right now... China now pissed due to execution... US, France, Germany, Chinese, Russia, XXX.... not very strategic in their attacks.

And the Turkey / Greece game Tuesday... Turkey fans booing during the moment of silence for France victims and shouting/chanting "Allahu Akbar". Wish Greece would have killed them (0-0)

For those that don't know, Greece and Turkey are bitter enemies dating back to the Ottomon Empire. So it wasn't just about religion, but general disrespect.

Like my Pappous always said. There are only three things to hate in this world... The Cubs, Racism and the Turks.

How many times do we have to repeat it man? ISIS wants all of those countries and more to occupy Syria/Iraq. They have more than a billion Muslims to recruit from and need the Muslim vs Others imagery to get young men to join their fight.

The situation with the Turks is exponentially more troubling than ISIS in my opinion.

To me, this is huge and a big mistake by ISIS. In the past countries saw the U.S. get attacked and sat back not wanting to get their hands dirty. Now they are feeling the pain and are having a new perspective. Bodes well for countries coming together to wipe out these pricks. Major blunder by ISIS IMO.

Yep, aside from Buster's reminder, picking on the Chinese is probably one of the bigger blunders IMO. Picking fights with all "Western" countries is expected, and is a logical way to gain membership and enable recruiting. Poking the Eastern folks is just plain stupid IMO. China is one nation I can see being nutty enough to send a couple million ground soldiers. Who's next, North Korea? Please.

I often get crazy in these threads, this won't be one of those times:

The past couple of days, I've been trying to explain what's going on with ISIS, France, the U.S., and everyone to a bunch of 17-20 year olds that never started considering this shit till recently.

They've been institutionalized since most of them were 10-12 yrs old. They never had time to consider foreign policy, and most of them are asking me incredibly thoughtful questions, and I think I did right.

I didn't teach my opinion, I taught critical thinking. It was awesome, you guys would have loved it.

There are a lot of Muslims in western China, so it makes sense from the ISIS angle.

China doesn't have the logistical ability to project power like that. Having the world's largest army is meaningless, they can't move it.

Cack,

I know you posted something again but I can't see anything under the vetting process post.

The embedded feature prevents the lower portion of the page from showing/loading.

So I can a page back and post a reply.
