Wondering tho’ (don’t know) if it will be more difficult for an Indy ND to schedule tough non-ACC games in a new super-conference world?
Probably.

This Big Ten-SEC challenge they're talking about - on top of nine conference games in the Big Ten and probably eventually the SEC - isn't going to leave a lot of appetite in either conference for home-and-homes with us. That's 10 games. Most programs will keep their last two slots for easy tuneups and maybe the occasional in-state rivalry with an ACC or Big 12 (SCAR-Clemson for instance). Even USC may be hard-pressed to justify playing us.

That, of all the things, might be the thing that finally forces our hand, if we can't schedule teams from the two conferences that matter more than the others.

That’s the thing , when people stop wanting to play us we’ll have to join a conference. It’s not happening…yet.
That’s what happened in MBB. We had great teams and many good games interspersed throughout the season and then we couldn’t get anyone good to play us in Feb and March. So we had to join a league

I might be parsing words, and perhaps it's a question of semantics. So, forgive me if I am misrepresenting your point.

I think people will always want to play us. But, I do imagine a day where it's just not advantageous for them to do so because they already have 9-10 conference games locked in with 4-5 being legitimately tough games. I think playing ND will always have advantages but there might be a tipping point where more teams decide that the negatives outweigh those positives and its in their best interest to get a guaranteed W against SW State School of the Blind.

This article is stunning. Crazy how much money is involved here. Wonder how much longer before a lot of big college sports programs go 'out of business' and bail out of FBS and go down into FCS, even some of the ones currently in the big conferences. Texas Tech has a sports budget of $129 mil/yr? WGAF about Texas Tech? How long can schools like that keep coming up with that much money?

“ If it reaches the championship game…the school will have earned a total of $20 million, plus $3 million per round to cover expenses. If a Big Ten team such as Oregon or Ohio State runs the table, it will only take in $1.1 million.”

“ND’s first-round opponent, the Indiana Hoosiers, received just $222,000 of the $4 million that it earned for the Big Ten Conference by qualifying for the CFP. The Irish got to keep all $4 million.”

Pretty significant that it ND takes care of their shit, they should essentially be able to pencil in $8 million of additional revenue annually in current system.

Enjoy those superconferences!

This is why have nots will never get to have.

$222k probably covers eye black and Gatorade paper cups.

To be fair, Indiana also gets $222,000 apiece for Penn State and Ohio State's first round games, so $666,000 for the first round, and the same for the second round from Oregon, Ohio State and Penn State. As will Purdue, which went 1-11.

A big reason why the Big Ten has to stay at 9 conference games is due to network pressure. There will always be pressure by the networks to get a big matchup with ND lol

That may become a lot more difficult to do in the near future as the superconferences start playing more intraconference games and are less interested in scheduling an ND or other strong/dangerous OOC opponent.
Uh oh, it’s happening. They’re getting scared. SEC already closing up shop as they see their dominance crumbling.

This will come off as brash and arrogant, but in this era of CFB beginning with the 4 team playoff through NIL, Transfer Portal, another wave of realignment and till now, every single time something new happens someone says it will hurt ND’s independent status. And every single time it doesn’t. If anything most of the changes have benefited ND.

They never got undeservingly left out of the 4 team playoff. The portal is working fine. NIL is working fine. They didn’t have to join the Big Ten. The 12 team playoff format works fine.

Forgive us if the next boogeyman ND fans are really tired of hearing about.
