The class rankings are really starting to look bad. I am not sure if we will finish in the top 12. Go look at 247’s top 247 and look at the schools still projected to the players available.

A lot of the attention has been on Power and his abysmal ranking of Carr, but I'll be honest, 247's overall job this year has been some of the most amateurish scouting I've ever seen. Granted, it's been mostly across the board, but some of the rankings, just from ND's commits are inexcusably bad.

Bryce Young is an 88 and the 45th ranked DL recruit in the country, which...no. Bare minimum, he's a top 25 DL, and a top 200 overall. Prescod is an 88 and the 35th OT. There is nowhere near 34 better tackles in this class. You'd be hard pressed to find 10. Mullins is an 87, ranked 792 overall. Good lord. Rezac isn't even RANKED!

ISD has far and away the most credible rankings of any of these services. I legitimately do not trust 247 after Barton Simmons left. Their quality has dropped off catastrophically. According to Jamie and co. at ISD, ND is sitting at 16 4-stars out of 20, and it sounds like a good number of them are looking at decent bumps after their senior film comes out.

From their films, the only 3-stars I see are TBP, Sevillano and Urlacher. Rezac, Kahoun, Hobbs, Prescod and Knapp are on the fringe, but I'd put them in the low 4-star category. Mullins and Young, they're NOT EVEN CLOSE to that fringe. They are both top 200, arguably top 100 level players. The fact that recruiting services reviewed the films and still failed to see that just shows the blatant amateurism we're dealing with.

I put ZERO stock into 247's rankings.

Michigan is 4th right now, and their class is full of guys that ND passed on or recruited over.

Jacob and Jerod Smith are both ranked higher than Mullins and Young. It's not even close, I and many others choose Mullins and Young over the Smith Bros in a millisecond. Not to mention, they have Jerod ranked ahead of Jacob, which is absurd. Jacob is CLEARLY the better player. Yet, Jerod is a top 150 player according to 247, while Jacob is barely top 250. That's nonsense. So how can I trust them to accurately rank Mullins or Young if they can't even get the right Smith brother ranked further? Much less, they consider Jerod Smith a top 150 player? That is the kind of stuff that should flat out ruin credibility right then and there. Not to mention Mullins and Young being THREE STARS on their sites.

ND chose Kahoun over Sullivan, and added Rezac.

Carr > Davis. Williams & Young > Marshall. Lambert & Prescod > Sprague & Frazier. Nobody they have committed on the DL is on par with Mullins, Young or Thomas.

Michigan loaded up on DL, taking 8 guys. Pretty much all of which ND didn't offer or recruited over. The one guy I'd like to have right now is Owen Wafle, but I'm not losing sleep over him.

Overall, 247 is a dumpster fire right now. Most of the services are. On3 is too, but giving Powers SOME credit, he is a bit more accurate on most of the ND commits. That being said, his laughable ranking of Carr detracts from that greatly.

Posted this on page 15. Adding Lambert gets them to 262 which on average is 11th. With 6 months til signing day I find it hard to imagine they don’t sign anyone else that gets them to the 270 range yet again but TBD of course.

I understand what you are saying. Go look at the numbers 8-14 look at the players right now each school are projected to get. Clemson for example still has 4 or 5 top 247 guys on that list. And they only have 16 commits currently.

I know projected is a guess but most of them are right.

I agree. The only way to change it is to win. I give Freeman credit for recruiting at the same level as Kelly thus far, but he has to win with the talent on the roster as constructed, and get them drafted, if he is going to earn the trust of true difference maker prospects. It’s boring to say, but this is going to take a full 4 years before we see any returns — if we see them at all.

Power is an idiot with Carr…

But Andrew Ivins is the worst there is.
Dude isn’t even a football analyst, he was a reporter who bounced around & somehow got promoted to Director of Scouting at 247.

Seriously, that would be the equivalent to Mike Singer or EJ Holland being in charge of On3 rankings.

And Ivins HATES ND & ND fans. He said so multiple times when he worked at BGI back in the day covering ND.

Power has a weird stance on Carr, but Ivins has a legitimate bias against ND & is clueless at ranking players because he has zero background in it.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but we won a lot of games between 2018 and 2021 and have had a lot of players drafted (only four schools currently have more alums in the NFL) and it has not had that much impact on our recruiting. You’d think two CFP berths in three years would help more than jt did.

Winning is, like, table stakes at this point. We need to ID and then land a higher percentage of the relatively small pool of Top 100-150 recruits who actually value the school part. That’s our competitive advantage (and I think Freeman is trying harder on that front than Kelly did).

And we probably need to figure out some way to offer NIL to recruits so that when we do find those kids another school doesn’t just buy them off.

We also need to finally look better on the field than we have during that stint, especially on offense. Del Vaughn Alexander and recent QB play have set us so far back despite our success in win percentage and playoff appearances. I can’t blame offensive skill position recruits for wanting to avoid our offense, and we’re probably easy to recruit against.

Take last year as an example - had a lot of wins and performed above expectation once Buchner went down, but offense (aside from the run game) looked all over the place most of the year.

Big believer in Chansi + hopeful that Hartman, Carr, and the WRs we have/are now successfully recruiting will finally have our offense looking close to the top tier schools. Similarly, though, pretty worried about Gerad Parker being in over his head.

Not sure of a year since about 2011 we haven’t said it. Maybe even happened once

ISD seems to think that Logan Saldate might be a name to look out for in the future to maybe get an offer.

5'11 receiver out of Salinas, CA. Very athletic and shows on film. Has great vertical and good catch radius in spite of his size.

I posted this in the Bradley Shaw thread but apparently we're out for him.

Hoover LB focusing on two as he heads into senior season

Hoover, Alabama—One of the top linebacker prospects in the country, Hoover linebacker Bradley Shaw is nearing a decision and is focusing on just two schools as he prepares to announce sometime during his senior year with the Bucs. Those two schools are in-state rivals Auburn and Alabama.

I'm not very worried about LB. I think between the last two classes of both LB and sadly S recruiting. You have a lot of versatility in skillset amongst the group.

If we miss on KVA, I'm recruiting athletes and not necessarily another LB.

The recent draft results seem to match this.

Most of the LB's taken early in the draft played different positions, namely safety, in HS.

Rezac and Urlacher fit that mold this year.

There is no way a serious person, could project Urlacher to an NFL LB at the present.

He could be a very productive Sniper or hybrid player. But, there is little precedent for 5'10/5'11 LB's in the NFL.

I'm not sure you could project Urlacher to an NFL - or high level FBS - safety at the present either.

You couldn’t project his father to low level FBS at this point in his life either.

Alt was a 245 lbs, low 3 Star TE at this point in his life.

Genetics matter.

This was Alt the summer going into his Sr year, just like urlacher is going into his sr year. Alt had the frame by now and was growing into it and a new positions, urlacher does not.

"""""Currently, Alt checks in at 6-7, 260 pounds, which has been quite the transformation over the past couple of years. Not only has he grown seven inches, but he has also gained 60 pounds. Alt’s next goal is to get to 280 going into next spring."""""
