Not yet. We knew there was going to be a learning curve just didn’t think this steep. It would be one thing if we were recruiting like Michigan but right now ND has a top 3 class. The trajectory is pointing upwards, as frustrating as this season has been.
I’m half joking but yeah. I think that was year 4 or 5 for Chuck after Quinn went to the league

Was at the game. Did TV viewers ever get a good explanation of the illegal reciever downfield call that wiped away Mayer's touchdown? On the jumbotron it looked like no OL even crossed the LOS nevermind the two yard cushion.

They called it on Mitch Evans. It sure looked like BS to me but not positive. The more egregious one was holding on Chris Smith in the fourth. Made no sense at all and had huge impact on the game.

The outside receiver was lined up on the line of scrimmage. The tight end, inside of him, was therefore ineligible. I would bet the WR was supposed to be back off the line.

Did anyone anywhere ever get an explanation of how our interior defensive tackle got called for holding on a pass play on Stanford's last drive?

Got it, thanks. I figured it was something like that but they only showed the replay once

Like others said, it was called on Mitch but he ran a route at the snap so I’m doubting it was his fault.

Then again, it’s NBC. You got as much of a replay and analysis as we did.

The funny thing is I could still see us beating the likes of cuse, Clemson and USC. That’s assuming Tommy calls a good game. If he doesn’t then forget about it

They've played three home games and the one they won they were fortunate to have gotten out of there with. I'm not sure what the issue is, but they looked FAR more prepared in Columbus, Chapel Hill and Las Vegas than they have three times in South Bend.

The pregame masses are not carrying the Holy Spirit into the game for 60 minutes.

Sure it's possible, but if our offense plays like they did last night we'll be lucky to score three points on Clemson.

Hence the reason I said if Tommy’s game plan and play calling those nights are like the Marshall or Stanford games then we have no shot

The only silver lining from last night is now there is ZERO excuse not to go get a portal QB.
There was ZERO excuse this year, yet here we are...

I'd like to see Tommy come in with a sensible game plan and call a complete game 1st before I get my hopes up.

I guess I think our offense's issues are not limited to game plan/play calling.

Tommy is all vines and no taters
DL couldn't move a makeshift OL
What's with all the injuries?
On the plus side special teams are better

The school needs to have a serious discussion about the stadium environment.

Switching over from the Tennessee game was like going from a rock show to a Sunday tea with grandma.

Maybe we are never going to have the kind of atmosphere that Tennessee had - but there's no reason it needs to be as bad as it is.

Sure, it's fall break - but that's an excuse. How often would the atmosphere inside the stadium be described as electric for the entire game?

That was a night game against a rival and even before ND made a mess of the first offensive series it seemed flat and then just got progressively worse.

Pyne ain’t it.

Stanford is not good. Neither is Marshall

I have seen enough of Rees

Terrible tackling

No sense of urgency. Poor awareness by our QB

Bad turnovers

Play the younger guys a bit more as the upper classes aren’t getting it done
Like all your points except the one on Rees, thinking if all your other points were taken care of his play calling might come out better.Maybe!

I went to the game last night. It's pretty frustrating watching Stanford roll the pocket and also call slant routes to make things as simple as possible for their offense when ND could be doing the same god damn thing. I think they ran the same play rolling the QB and throwing an out route about 8 times.

Tommy is too smart for his own good. Needs to go to the NFL where he can have a roster of machines to execute his subtleties. His college football gameplans are way too inconsistent for a hodgepodge roster.

It's an absolute certainty. 90 percent of this very board falls in line with the rigorous academic standard excuse as to why we can't get over the hump. Toss in NIL and a very Conservative BOT. What elite coach wants to fuck themself over. No one.
Meanwhile ND still hauls in 2nd most money per year behind Texas. We aren't a "Football Factory" I think we are. Just a half assed one..make the changes. There's a reason BK stepped down. This program can't get over the hump to be elite. We are at best 5-10 at our ceiling. Until the BOT, Administration,. alumni,.fans change their lime of thinking this is it. ND stopped caring about winning just before the turn of the century and the line of thinking is the same. The results of this program will be the same. That's what it is
Agreed—the university is an extractive regime that is slurping from the cash cow instead of reinvesting and viewing football as the growth engine. The admin and co foresee football in general losing relevance in the long run as evidenced by declining attendance across the sport due to CTE, professionalism, increasing popularity of other sports/esports in the next generation. They are putting in just enough capex/opex to keep the milk flowing, but have no interest in tying the university’s fortunes to the sport for the long haul and use the “holier than thou” excuse of “standards” to keep the masses placated and from asking too many questions as to why they refuse to change anything beyond incremental upkeep.

No point getting your hopes up for a championship until that changes, and quite frankly I am not convinced it ever will.

Just look at what Tennessee put together last night. ND is SO far from there it’s not even worth comparing.

Had friends visit from Greenville SC and they talked about the crazy Clemson fans and the atmosphere at the stadium. He’s from South Africa and had never been to a college game before moving to Clemson. I told him we were moving to South Bend and he said he he hopes to watch a game with me there… my first thought was to cringe a little. I’ve been to college games all over the country. ND stadium might be a destination in of itself but the game atmosphere isn’t.
