Stadium Renovations, Uniform Changes

Everyone in the stadium said it was awesome. Every podcast who was skeptical, said ND pulled it off. ISD write up said it turned out big time.

I'm sorry you didn't see it from your couch on your sunny west coast afternoon, but everyone on campus and in the stadium said the green was done right and "about time".

Ummm. No they didn't. Many I sat with or talked to afterward thought it was pretty weak.
I saw the entire stadium and the TV...was underwhelmed to say the least, but it turned out just as I thought it would.

If you had said that ND has enough money, should put green shirts in the stands, and left it at that you wouldn't be getting so much shit. It's a stunningly bad take. I’m sure the stadium gets hyped,... the idea of the blue bloods melted my mind when it first came up years back... would you say the idea that some don’t sit on their hands and tell others to be quiet is fiction? Because we’ve all read that from numerous posters and others over and over and over, but, you clearly know better than I.....

I went to a BYU game years ago and there were two nuns sitting in front of us who were actually knitting during the game and they asked us to "keep it down" twice on third and long. They were actually pretty nice though because they laughed when they saw we had snuck in blood bags full of whiskey.

My point is that these things don't happen overnight. Notre Dame needs to overcome the culture that has festered for the past 30 years. They are slowly purging the rich olds to the box seats. If you consider a 70% crowd participation to wear green on short notice a failure, you haven't been paying attention to how quickly similar movements in the past have been squashed or discarded. Complaining that it wasn't up to the standards of major state schools that don't have these issues is just unrealistic.

What the hell is it about ND where we seem to be the only program in the country that’s held back by its blue bloods?? Lol you don’t see wealthy donors telling people to shut up and sit down elsewhere... I’m sure every one of these other examples have their blue bloods playing along

2) It costs a fuckton to go to a game. Young alumni can't afford it easily.
3) We have very few local fans compared to a state school. Most people also have to pay for a hotel.

All that combined cuts out many of the young people and die-hard rednecks that typically turn it up to 11.

I've heard from ~10 people who were at the game that were pleasantly surprised with how well it went. You're definitely the first person I've heard say it was just "OK". I was not there, so I cant say personally. I will say I commented on ISD about how it didn't look that green from the TV and people said what you saw on TV wasnt a fair representation. Meaning it was really green when you were there and looking around.

Regardless, it greyhammer's point, if you're biggest contribution is to dog on the idea/encourage the "we cant do it, poor us" attitude, just stay out of it and say nothing at all.

Because you're not helping any sort of culture change.

(One of my favorite things to do before kickoff is ask the people sitting around me where they've come from, because its a very unique aspect of the Notre Dame crowd. You go to a game in Tennessee, it's 90% Tennesseans. You go to game at Notre Dame and you could be sitting next to someone from Alaska.) I've sat in a bunch of different areas, I've stood for the vast majority of games, I've yelled, I've high fived ushers, I've lifted people in the air. I've never been told to be quiet, I've never been told to sit down, I've never been asked to calm down, I've never been harassed by a yellow vest. Maybe my seats are just too cheap for that crowd.

Been to a lot of games (less than 10 in the last 5 years, so things may have changed) over the past 40 years, and it really depends on the area you sit in. I've had plenty of fun in the cheap seats. The high dollar areas are a crap shoot.

The majority of my trips have been in those areas. I sat in the end zone next to the tunnel once and up in the corner a few times. The only time I remember where there wasn't an issue at all was the end zone tunnel seats. That was the OT game a few years back vs Washington I believe. Very common experience. Been to 100+ games. Asked to sit down dozens of times after complaints to the ushers from the older fan base. If you don't want to stand and cheer keep your sad ass home.
For some weird reason these people think being seen, tailgating and going to the game (until rain or halftime) is some kind of status symbol.

It has been better this year I will say.

My only issues for the most part have been there (prime areas). Corners and EZ have been fun and without issue. I used to get a lot of tix from my father's buddy who was the prez of one of the ND alumni associations. They were prime, and surrounded by BHs. It was great sitting there (view) but really sucked from a fan perspective. Usher's back then were pretty militant lol. That was a long time ago. Now I get prime seats every once in a while from a friend's family, and very similar but not as bad. I wish they'd build more skyboxes and put all the BHs in them. I've been to several big time stadiums, and ND is the only place I've ever had to worry about that shit.

2) my season tix are in section 1, I’ve never had an issue in my three years there with people being asked to sit down.

I don't know why I can't embed any of these pics but 'eh' definitely covers our " ___ out" games... compare Michigan which was one of the better efforts to Iowa this past Saturday or a White Out at PSU and it's pretty underwhelming man.

To be clear I'm not saying it looked bad but this is Notre Dame guys... If you can't get it to look like the above examples then don't bother is really my stance. If 'green just doesn't look like that" is the response then don't do green.

While not a total green out, it was pretty much green throughout and not a sprinkling as suggested. I agree green doesn't translate well on TV but it was noticeable in the stadium. I thought it was something of a success given it was the first go round. Agree that it needs to be done on a regular basis to eventually get it to a total green out.

The old Blue hair story. Get it out and dust it off every year. For as many years as I keep hearing that, most of them have had to pass away by now. lol

I go to three or four games a year and have been for my whole life. I can only think of one time where I was approached by an usher, and frankly, I deserved it. Was told to tone it down.

The only time I have ever seen ushers approached is when there is profanity being used loudly and often, along with people either starting to pick fights or too drunk to sit up straight.

It wasn't 100%, but it was a clear difference than a typical big game. Doing it consistently for the big games will produce a better result.

I feel like a lot of people here are talking past each other and missing the point, especially missing ACamp's point that I agree with.
Was this the best showing so far in ND's attempts at some kind of ___-out? Yes absolutely.
Was it really good? No.
It was great to be able to look, from the perspective of a fan to say, "Oh wow, I can actually tell this is supposed to be a green-out" However, in comparison to other major programs it still was not good enough. That Doesn't mean ND should stop. But you know, maybe give those free shirts out like ACamp said? Maybe coordinate with The Shirt to, idk, get the SAME color the university promotes...
