Maybe we're thinking about this all the wrong way ..

Maybe it's not the music that's the problem. We could use every one of these songs and no matter how good they are it would be a fail.

Could it be, just maybe, that the "light" portion of the show does the same 4 movements and is absolutely useless in entertaining, setting the mood, or creating an experience? It literally does nothing to move the needle in any category. The only purpose it seems to have is toned down strobe lights so not to cause a seizure lol.

Watch the above clips again and focus on the lights.

Agree it's lackluster but I bet that comes from the song changing a lot. I think if they picked a 4th quarter song and stuck to it the lights would fall into place.

I think the general vibe should be "closing pitcher walkout song" so maybe that's where they should look to for inspiration. I wouldn't expect ND to go this hard but I'd like to have just a taste of this energy rather than girls' night karaoke:

Thunderstruck is still used all the time at high school athletic events. Young people still like it. My son's wrestling team loved old school and new metal as well. It's not just mumble rap and emo bands.

I played around with this theme on ChatGPT on the commute this morning and it spit out this:

"Start with the opening texture of Cochise in darkness → cut into the opening rhythm of Jambi → “It has to start somewhere…” from Guerrilla Radio → blackout → then “ARE YOU READY?!” → Blind riff with the entire stadium flashing."

Seems a little cluttered, but I'm also not a DJ. I also really like "Push It" by Static-X and "Walk" by Pantera.

What's the problem with the Living on a Prayer video? There's plenty of participation, which is the point of the discussion. The light show was fine.
I'm all for anything that would work, and there's been a lot of good ideas, minus that Arcade Fire one,

This is all brought on by last weeks light show being horrible, but it wasn't the lights, it was the music selection. Which honestly, I couldn't even tell you what the hell the music was. But let's also not let the fans off the hook. ND stadium for the most part has a pretty fucking bland fan base that goes to the game no matter what. The MSU game was lame as hell in the upper north endzone.

My section, from my observation seems to be used for recent alumni (i think mostly former band members, cause they only get into it when the band takes the field) as a way to see long lost former classmates. They just sit on their asses talking to each other, and then during the commercial breaks will breakout into whatever nerd dance they know while the DJ is playing. It's hard as hell getting them off their butts for a defensive third down.

Thunderstruck will go hard from now until the end of time. Hells Bells would also be a good one for an iconic Catholic institution like ND.

Light show is a whole other thing. I've always thought Hells Bells should be ND's walkout/entrance song for some reason.

Been giving the music some thought. How about Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out as an anthem option? It's a great song, singable, upbeat, not ancient, and would be unique. I don't know of anyone else using it.

I read through the posts calling for Creed/ACDC etc. thinking wow these guys are old and out of touch. Saw Take Me Out and thought “amen brother”……that song is 22 years old. We are officially the old guys now.

Give me some Death Grips, Kneecap (Irish), Fontaines D.C. (Irish), or Justice.

It’s not just that the songs are lame. Some are like Livin on a Prayer. Others are fine. All the AC/DC songs or Ozzy songs are fine. It’s just that they’re so overplayed as to be generic at this point and we’re talking about starting a tradition in 2026.

If we had been playing Hells Bells since 1977 then whatever it’s a tradition. Not the best song but Sweet Caroline blows too and no one would suggest teams that have been playing it for decades should change it, but you’d never pick it now. It would be like someone asking you what your favorite restaurant is and you say Applebees.

We need something unique not something that seems like royalty free sportsball music it’s so ubiquitous.

You can't pick a flavor of the day new song. What happens in 2 years when everyone has forgotten about it? And you can't pick songs and bands no one has ever heard of (unless it is VERY specific to Notre Dane or Irish music like Shipping Up to Boston) because fans won't have a connection to it, won't sing along and won't get excited by, which is the entire point.

I believe we are in the same section. Surrounded by band alumni also. lmao!

I think the easiest way for the fans at ND to get a tradition started is for most in the stadium to know the words right away. Which is why you're seeing the geriatric suggestions.
