SHartman is a demigod. This offense is going to be trouble this year. Hard to take too much away with the mixed lineups but saw some real good stuff today. It’s going to be nice to take some shots downfield.

Rocco had a great block to spring Payne on his long run. That was good to see.

I've watched the same show. He is really just saying that has been his argument up until this point. I actually don't even think he is saying play Buchner (he has abandoned that argument) its more play the young guys.
What do you think about his 2024 expanded CFP, new TV deal, SEC speed, etc… argument as to why ND should focus on ‘24 over ‘23?

Disappointed in the tight ends?
Yeh, I guess, me too, since they were all injured.
Our TEs DO have something to prove, but this was no test of that.
... and the one "starting" TE healthy had the wrong QB anyway.
And Davis Sherwood looked great. He is technically a tight end but kind of a H Back tall fullback type

why would you openly root for Tommy to crash and burn when he's given so much to the university?
Sorry didn’t like his offensive schemes, didn’t like that he didn’t get a transfer QB last year when we clearly needed one and I think he came off as arrogant. I also didn’t like that he was retained before Freeman was installed as ND’s HC - likely because of his dad being in the AD’s office. I hope that clarifies and all of which are JMHO.

I didn't hear him say those specific things but his focus on 24 argument is a valid argument that I ultimately don't agree with. I don't think ND has the talent on defense to make the play offs this year. So I would love to see young players get an opportunity over older guys especially at LB.

That was the crux of his argument. It went on for a while.
It starts at 43:00.
But at 46:20, he literally says “this is my true comment” then talks about the 2024 extended CFP & TV deal being the main reason for his argument.

Right now.
On the BGI Live post game, Tim Hyde is literally saying play Buchner over Hartman because ND isn’t a title contender this year so they should be preparing for next year.

I’m not shitting you.
That’s a galaxy brained take if I’ve ever seen one. What’s the point in bringing Hartman in in the first place?

Hartman is for real.
Greathouse had a lot of opportunities and he didn't flinch.
Thomas continues to prove his value.
Gibran Payne looked really, really good. I think he's going to be 2b unless Jadarian Price or J. Love can push the entire stack down.
Morrison is still great.
Mickey looks pretty good
Onye is a bull with finesse
Young LBs made some splash plays.
Young Vypers made some plays.

All in all that was a lot of fun to watch and if we can keep Hartman healthy all year (and the rest of the team) we have a chance against anybody. It was a spring game and we should never read into it but Hartman is just so fast with his read/release.

Was impressed by him. Some analysts have been saying he may be why we dont take a 2nd TE. He provides enough depth

Reaper is misrepresenting Hyde here. He flat out said Hartman will be the starter and he was MVP and Buchner was bad.
He spoke for a bit essentially recapping what his argument had been but at the same time he does broadly want youth to be given opportunities because ND isn’t going to seriously contend this season.
I think if Buchner had of been equally as impressive today he would have been arguing for him ahead of Hartman.

Hyde’s all around point is just terrible. Don’t like Singer but he’s spot on here. Hyde thinks the team doesn’t have SEC speed in 2023 but will in 2024 so they should go with Buchner? Just a bizarro world take

Probably drunk, they usually spend the first 15 mins talking about what they are drinking. At least the couple times I listened to them.

The funny thing about Hyde’s rebuttal is he says that’s what Balis is for & the ND players will get faster in the off-season…as if the SEC teams don’t have S&C staff & their players won’t get faster too? LOL
And someone needs to explain to Hyde that “SEC speed” doesn’t translate to every team. I’m sick of people lumping all SEC teams together. The past 5 years ND is better than what, 11-12 of the 14 SEC teams?

If Hartman is as good as advertised, we should have a shot to beat everyone we play. In my book that makes us a title contender.
Sorry maybe I worded it Wrong with Hartman we are a title contender With Buchner 3-4 losses

Hartman threw good to Thomas and Greathouse. Add Merryweather, Tyree and Colzie and we have something.
Someone else mentioned it during the game, but it would've been nice to switch Hartman to the blue team in the second quarter.
It would've been very interesting to see the results.

This is idiocy. This is how coaches lose their team, lose recruits and ultimately lose their job.

You never play for next year in college, there isn't a #1 pick to be obtained. You strive to show an upward trajectory and that your program is building so people can believe and you continue to build more weight behind your negotiations with everybody: AD, team, coaches, recruits, etc.

Whoever said this shit should not be taken seriously and unless he has some comedic gold or the voice of an angel, I'd give my attention to something worthwhile.

I thought the same. Hartman definitely had better protection than Buchner, while Buchner probably had more weapons on paper...and yet the Gold team got all the yards. Still, Angeli didn't really move the ball as much as Hartman once he came in behind the same line, although Greathouse still performed. Would have been nice to see how the QBs did once flipped.

Buchner struggles with setting the protection.
Hartman, like any top 10 QB, is making pre-snap reads & 90% sure where the ball is going before rye snap. That’s why he was hitting Greathouse wide open so much.
Buchner is more of a catch the snap, look at my first read, not open, scramble a little and look at my second read, then take off, type of a QB.
Hartman was getting the ball out fast so he wasn’t getting as much pressure.

This is how it looked in the stadium, too. I also really liked how Hartman is able to evade defenders, remain in the pocket, and keep his eyes downfield. He did that nicely a few times today and ended up with completions.

Greg Flammang brought up a great point in the post game Hit N Hustle. He said Buchner is the type of QB that you have to build a gameplan around for him to be successful. He can't just go out and rip a defense based purely on reading defenses like Hartman can. Part of that is natural and part is all of Hartmans experience. I'm not off the TB in the future train as I think he can still be really good with one more year of development, but Hartman is the guy for this year. Full stop.

Edit: Tim Hyde is a fucking idiot for that take. I hope Hartman finds a way to throw a ball at his nuts Waterboy style.
