I will take it into consideration. Seriously considering restarting as an elf maybe and getting really good with a couple of things. I know I haven't finished much of the game, but GKIrish said he's a 45 and I'm a 9 and we just finished the same mission.... That does not make sense. I feel like I've gone too far for what little I know.

Lots of people leave the main quest for last, since it's the most dramatic and significant. It also helps to make the side/ guild quests more enjoyable if you think of them as preparation for your date with destiny. That's what gk did, but you've gone the other route and focused on the main quest first. There's no real advantage to doing one over the other; it just depends on how you want to role play your character.

I'm trying to hold off on playing the "main quest" for awhile, but I'm not sure which of the quests is the "main" one. Picking one or the other, would you guys recommend that I hold off on the civil war story line or the Dragonborn story line?

If you're inclined to pick a side, do the Civil War quest line first. Otherwise, you have to host a peace summit at High Hrothgar to broker a truce between the two factions. That's an interesting event, but it can be tedious.

Also, if your new armor has made combat trivial, adjust the game's difficulty! Skyrim gets boring really quickly once nothing can scratch you.

If you want to be a mage, that sounds fun, but I can't shake the feeling that Skyrim is supposed to be played as a Nord warrior. A dark elf Dragonborn just feels like a major plot hole.

I'm glad Coon sucks worse than I do. I've leveled Smithing quite a bit while making all the building materials for Lakeview Manor (Hearthfire DLC) so I have way better amour than I have any business wearing at level 20. I can look dragons and just about any enemy in the face while they blast with with ice, fire, shock, whatever, and it barely makes a dent in my health bar because my armor is imbalanced in relation to my enemies.

*SPOILER QUESTION*

It tells you which quests are main quests in the quest menu.

Altmer make the best Mages-- (1) they start with an extra 50 Magicka; (2) Highborn is really useful prior to 100 Enchanting; and (3) most importantly, they've got the fastest movement speed of any race. For some odd reason, Bethesda tied movement speed to character height; Altmer are the tallest race, so they're also the fastest. Very helpful for kiting enemies.

Oh, and killing Thalmor as an Altmer is extra fun.

So last night I'm tooling around Skyrim and figure I'll clean up some of my miscellaneous missions.

Dragon bounty: Killed in about 30 seconds, hardly any damage taken. Loot: bones, scales, 750 bounty.

Giant bounty: Killed in about 20 minutes after kiting three giants around the plains. Thirty arrows lost, many potions consumed, super lame loot, 100 bounty.

What the hell!?

Serves you right after what you said yesterday! Lol.

I've bought rights to the fire ball spell which is a step up for me. Also bought a scroll for $1,500 and I didn't know they were for one time use... So I stepped outside of the castle and tried it and it was awesome. Went to equip it later on and it was gone. Expensive lesson learned lol.

One of these days Koon and I need to get on some Elder Scrolls online...

He'll be running around hack and slashing everything trying to find me... then the arrows will rain down from all directions at once and I'll walk up casually to his corpse...

"Only 8 hit points huh??"

I've taken your advice, results TBD.

I've been a gold hoarded, but I went all out on your now theory. Bought about a $500 fire bow that adds 10 points of damage. Also bought some wrist supports that increase damage 15% for the bow.

You'll find arrows just about everywhere just lying around or on people you kill..., and 1 out of 3 or so can be easily picked back up and reused. It seemed like a cheaper option to me... once you get to where you can enchant your bow... pownage.

I'd find a spell that summons something that you like also...

-1 good summon spell
-good, quiet armor (like upgraded thieves guild armor or Glass armor with boots that quiet the armor for example... you can enchant the quiet part)
-a good upgraded/enchanted bow
-tons of arrows, they don't need to be special either, just basic arrows.
-jewels/necklaces to enhance your carry wieght and sneak
-learning to sneak any time you are around just about anyone that may be hostile
-stock up on lockpicks

that's how I roll and it's worked VERY well...

Didn't know you can enchant items. Thanks.

While it probably makes more sense for a Nord to be Dragonborn given the proximity of the Grey Beards and the fact that some of Tamriel's more historic Dragonborn have been Nords (The first Dragonborn, as well as Tiber Septim), a Dragonborn can be any race. The gift of dragon blood is said to be given from Akatosh to anyone he deems.

After playing as the "Cat-rate" weilding Khajiit recently, I rerolled a dark elf myself and I'm playing pure Mage on Expert. No lockpicking, unless I use spells, no armor, no melee weapons. It requires a lot of strategy, and in my opinion you need to play through Skyrim at least once as a Mage. It gets boring sneaking around and killing things with bow and arrows, far too easy. Try taking on a dozen bandits with just a robe on your back and spells at your fingertips. Depending on your approach it could be very difficult, or you can play around with some spells and do something like turn the bandits against each other to see who wins. Playing a Mage makes things interesting and it can sometimes allow you to do things you could never do as a Melee fighter.

That's where Soul Gems play into it... I have a bow that is encahnted to add fire damage... even when the shot doesn't kill them right off they rarely survive more than a few steps while on fire...

Find a high damage weapon without enchantments. Use the workbench or whatever it's called to upgrade the quality to superior/flawless. Then enchant it. You can't upgrade an enchanted weapon without a LVL 60 Smith perk (which I just reached w00t) so you need to upgrade before enchanting. If none of that makes sense Google it lol.

Enchanting is for heathens and necromancers. A true Son of Skyrim needs nothing more than cold steel.

I like to pretend that the +25% damage enchants on my gear aren't actually enchants, but are a result of the power oozing from my Nord muscles

Good thing I'm Imperial... you Nords with your backwards ways... and you wondered why you're so easily conquered.

Pfft, that was an age or more ago! Why does the Empire need Nords to fight all their battles now?

Honestly, I have been an Imperial in every Elder Scrolls game I have played... and will stay with that...

1.) They are at the center of everything, literally and figuratively
2.) They are very 'human' (others are too, but the Imperials just strike me as THE humans), which makes them easy to relate to for me...
3.) This is just me obviously, but I kind of view Elder Scrolls as the world of Tamriel as seen through the Imperial race... that's kind of what the series has become for me/ my personal interpretation.

I don't think I've ever played Imperial, it just seemed to plain Jane for me. I can't remember exactly what I was in Morrowind, but I want to say Breton or Dark Elf/Dunmer. I was definitely Breton for Oblivion. In Skyrim I've played Breton, then pure melee Redguard (which was fun), then Altmer pure Mage, Redguard again for a bit, a Khajiit for the first time that happened to wield unarmed attacks/Cat-rate, and now a Dunmer as pure Mage again. If I ever decided to go with a pure Thief/Rogue type I would probably do an Imperial, but my closest Thief build was the Redguard and she wielded a 2 hander which isn't exactly stealthy. She could sneak and use a bow when she wanted to, but she was more fun standing toe to toe and swinging big power attacks.

By all rights I probably should have played as an Imperial because I never had any intention of donning a single piece of light armor. Oh well.

Yeah, glass is a suitable thing to make armor out of.

Edit: I need to start decorating my house. The problem is that I'm a compulsive Smither and sell every spare piece of arms and armor to buy ingots.

I don't do any type of drugs, but I can't help but think this game would be awesome if I was blitzed out of my mind.

Starting side missions now until I get better at pretty much anything. I'm interested in 'smithining' my armor and weapons, but it won't let me spend perk points on those yet. I still suck, but game's getting interesting.

Smithing will evetually be a must... that's where you will upgrade your weapons... I don't know about 'drugs' but a few beers and some Skyrim is always a good mix.

Does it make a difference if you mix your attire with heavy and light Armour? I have a mix right now, I assume 'light' is for attacking from a distance, and heavy is for hand to hand.
