AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas has decided to fire Charlie Strong as football coach, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy and multiple reports.
Strong will coach the Longhorns' final regular season game Friday against TCU before stepping down. He's 16-20 in three seasons at Texas and 12-14 in Big 12 play. His final game will clinch either a bowl bid or his third seven-loss season.
Strong is owed a buyout of $10.7 million for the remaining two years on his contract, a fee which would be reduced if he takes another job.

Not sure why. No shame in losing to Kansas.
Just remember that we lost to Texas to start the season. Does everyone remember that?

If you mixed Unnecessary Roughness and Groundhogs Day together you have the Kansas Football program.

So it seems the Brian Kelly is extremely high on the LSU list. Their number target is Herman and Brian Kelly is not to far behind.
If he goes to LSU and keeps Aranda, he will have great success. He will be battling Satan every year for SEC championship.

I really don't want Fleck at this point in his career.
My wish list which will never happen: Gruden, Herman, Josh McDaniels...I can't believe I'm saying this but Brian Kelly. It's like dumping your girl friend, she starts dating someone else before you and you get extremely jealous. Even though you were the dumper.

I like the idea of Fleck, the energy he can bring. I think he would change the culture for sure, and if this was a program where all he had to worry about was winning games, then sure. But it's not. There is way too much to take on and balance that you simply can't expect a relatively inexperienced HC to be able to do it all and do it all well. That said, who the hell we getting? Gruden isn't leaving the booth. Herman isn't leaving the state of Texas. McDaniels isn't leaving the NFL...yet. So who else? We're not getting Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh, etc (really there is no etc, it's just those three at the top). We can pary for a Wittingham, but everything I've read suggests we forget it. MacIntyre is intriguing, but do we have any reason to think he'd be interested? What other "proven" commodities are there? Actually, many, but let me rephrase - how many proven commodities are there that A) are interested and B) ND admin would approve? I would kill for Peterson, but again - ain't happening.
Do we know of any coaches that have an ND-clause in their contract (a la Urban Meyer from his Utah days)? I'm assuming Skip Holtz, though I don't know that.
I have mentioned this name before, but always get shot down. I guess because he had some shady situations at Colorado and Washington. Not clear on what happened and don't fully remember. But I like the guy, his personality, the way he speaks, he is very charming, etc. And the guy can flat out coach and especially recruit.

As far as I know, he was exonerated of all wrong doing, but I'm not sure that would be enough for the admin to look past. Hell, if we're going to go that route, let's see what Mike Leach is up to while we're at it. Maybe kick the tires on Petrino as well.
Lol.
Could you imagine this board after Mike Leach runs the ball 15 times in a game lmfao

This is now being refuted

I'm beginning to love the idea of Fleck. He would be a 180 from BK in all regards (some of those good, some of those bad), and at this point a stale program could benefit from a shot of life from a maverick coach.
Could be wrong though, the polls show a good portion of the coaches on the top teams are stodgy and steadfast, but I also see the program name next to the label. Looks like the mavericks all pulled their respective programs out of a dark era.
Current Top 10:
1. Saban=definition of stodgy 1a
2. Meyer= definition of stodgy 1b
3. Harbaugh= maverick
4. Clemson=maverick
5. Wisconsin=stodgy
6. Washington=stodgy
7. Oklahoma=stodgy
8. Penn State=maverick
9. Colorado=DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT McIntyre
10. Oklahoma State=maverick
