This post pretty much sums up how I feel. I know some of you say you like how Pelini is so upfront with his feelings, but he comes off as an idiot who doesn't know when it's good to keep his mouth shut. Which in his case, might be most the time.

A good coach knows how to always approach things in a business manner with the idea of PR always in the back of his mind. The day of brash coaches are over.

Pelini is not an idiot. He's been around big time football programs enough to know the consequences of his behavior. Seems like he just doesn't care. He's more than willing to speak the truth (his version of it, at least) even if it is to his detriment. Stupid as it may seem, there is something about it you have to respect.

Addazio got extended through 2020 by BC. Wonder what his buyout terms are... clearly this happened in response to all the poaching interest.

IMO, it would take a lot to attract a big fish to Pitt, but good to see schools investing in the total program.

We were told that Pitt plans to invest heavily in the program both in terms of dedication to staffing and to facilities and operations. Two sources said “significant new commitment to the program” will be announced in connection with the upcoming announcement once a new head coach comes on board.

Here, Oregon State seems to be doing the same. It will be interesting to follow some of these middling programs as they go through these transformations, for lack of a better word, and see how it turns out.

Pitt won a natty in 76 and had some amazing teams in the 80s as well. I think with the right coach and facilities there is a chance they can become a dominant team again. Unfortunately I think the program was set back after Pitt Stadium was destroyed and they stopped playing games on campus.

It's a shame because there is tons of talent in Western PA / Ohio region.

Coaching Changes 2012

Coaching Changes 2012

I got to wondering what happens to those coaches that are fired or hired out of their current HC position.

In 2012, there were 31 head coaching changes. Fourteen could be considered promotions - twelve became head coaches in college and two more became NFL head coaches. The carousel was in full swing that year.

As for the other seventeen,
-six became NFL assistant coaches,
-three accepted Coordinator positions in college,
-two took Position coaching jobs,
-one became a D-III HC,
-one became a media analyst

As for the other four, I assume three retired
- Bill Curry (72)
- Mike Price (68)
- Frank Spaziani (67)

I had no word on Danny Hope (55) until news has just broken that he will be taking an college assistant coach position.

Coaching is not for the faint of heart, moving so frequently and quickly trying to find another job. For each head coach, there are at least eight assistant coaches. So, when thirty-one head coaches are on the move, that means over 240 assistant coaches are looking.

"Dominant" might be a stretch, but they could certainly be competitive - which it's hard to say they've really been lately (6, 6 and 7 wins the last three years).
They're always going to be in the shadow of Penn State and Ohio State - and this is a case where being in the ACC instead of the Big Ten probably hurts them - but there's enough talent in that region to go around. If they could supplement the local talent they live on with some good recruiting down south, they might get somewhere.

I'm seriously not worried...he hasn't been an offensive coordinator yet...i know it's his alma mater but they would be reaching...proven off. coordinators interested...could see scott frost at oregon

Alford certainly warrants an interview, but he seems like a reach to actually get the job. He's a great recruiter, but he's never even been a coordinator. There are good coordinators out there to be had.
If anything, I'd be more worried the impact his interviewing might have on particular recruits - especially Ronald Jones - we need to land another RB this class. But long term, I think he's still Irish come spring ball.

Ran across this quote from Hugh Freeze in an article about a walk-on scholarship story.

"
Nebraska's contract obligations to Pelini after extending him to 2018 are:
-$7.65 million in salary following his termination in the form of $150,000 monthly payments for the next 51 months.
- The total liquidation to be paid to Pelini is roughly $7.9 million

And suddenly, it all makes sense.

Narduzzi is a fantastic defensive mind. Pitt will rise to the top of the ACC under him. He's a tough guy.

Does Michigan really think they have a shot at other NFL coaches? Harbaugh is logical, he has Michigan ties, the rest? Please.

UCLA’s Mora and Auburn’s Malzahn potential NFL targets?

The college football world may be on Jim Harbaugh watch to see what happens with his coaching future (NFL or Michigan?), but two other college coaches could be ready to receive some NFL overtures as well.

UCLA head coach Jim Mora and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn are two names of interest according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Rapoport suggests the San Francisco 49ers would be a team expected to have an interest in Mora, where he would replace Harbaugh. The 49ers have a knack for plucking coaches from the Pac-12, so perhaps that makes sense. Mora also has NFL coaching experience with the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks. Mora’s time in the NFL did not end well, but sometimes a return can ay off. Just ask current Seattle head coach Pete Carroll.

Malzahn would be a potential target for the Miami Dolphins, per Rapoport, if the team makes a coaching change. Malzahn has no NFL coaching experience, which can be of some mild concern. But if offensive innovation is the key to winning in the NFL, then perhaps Malzahn would be a good fit if he was interested.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports the 49ers could be expected to let Harbaugh go between 24 and 48 hours following the conclusion of the NFL’s regular season. So the wait may drag on for Michigan fans. If Michigan does not lure Harbaugh to Ann arbor, the coaching carousel in the college ranks could get into fifth gear one last time. Pittsburgh and Colorado State still have to find a head coach too.

Stanford head coach David Shaw will reportedly turn down any NFL offers that may come his way.

Funny. I wouldn't expect Shaw to even get a sniff at a NFL HC gig. Harbaugh to Bears, Mora to SF, Soso to ND would be delicious.
