Watched the replay of the GT/UL game (or at least most of it). Didn’t realize Shough is a 7th year senior. Not a coach, but from watching UL, Brohm really likes the underneath crossers. If that’s the case, our LB crew will be up for a challenge. NIU successfully got them out of their fits w/ “eye candy” when motioning players so I suspect Brohm will mix in a lot of that as well.

Their WR who transferred from Bama is a stud (Jacory Brooks is his name IIRC). Chris Bell looked good at WR too. Seems like every player on their team played somewhere else last year except for their stud edge rusher, Ashton Gillote who had a quiet game w/ only 2 tackles.

Shough is definitely better than Plummer from last year but Plummer was good enough to lead his team to victory over ND so there’s that. Shough didn’t throw many incompletions & avoided TOs. Both QBs were their respective team’s best runners w/ both run games being anemic. UL is loaded w/ athletes on defense. GT seemed to have their best success when they ran right at them vs trying to beat them to the perimeter.

I don’t agree with the premise that you can’t:

a) Think ND is going to win the game
b) Root for ND to win the game
c) Express frustration with the state of the coaching, qb play, and offensive execution.

I think we’re all (maybe except @Hautian Domer) hopeful for ND to win. But I think the expectation for us to win is in doubt based on how they prepare, how they come out, and how well the offense can move the football.

We’re all fan(atics). I know a lot of ND fans who don’t even know message boards exist. But being a fan and being critical of your team aren’t mutually exclusive.

interested if we go nickel for the majority the week like against miami. Allowing more yards in the run game to better control their passing game. One thing I do know is that Ausberry should get a lot of reps this game and even though Bowen did great last game he is an exploitable weakness in pass defense.

I am fine if there is some genuine football perspective being given, but the irrational overreactions and general whining is where certain posters just have to be blocked. We're all seeing the same things, and nobody is going to call this team the 2001 Miami Hurricanes in terms of how good they are, but providing some kind of rational perspective is my preference in terms of being part of the audience.

Alas, it's a message board. One that includes an ignore option.

I'm trying so hard not to be this guy anymore, with a baby coming any day now. It has been so hard to contain myself so far. My wife could tell I was fuming in the first quarter on Saturday.

I try the "it's just a game" mentality but it can be a struggle. Knowing what this team SHOULD be capable of and what we're being forced to watch because of some stubborn decision making...it's maddening

I really hope nobody that matters is even contemplating the thought of "revenge." This isn't a middle school basketball rivalry and I think based on what we've seen so far this team has a lot of more relevant and pressing matters they should be focusing on this week.

Much more relaxed, calm MF during the press conference today. Probably got some good mentorship about body language and what not. Handled the continued Riley questions (they are deserved) with much more patience I thought. Also, props to Bernadino for asking a tough question about Mickey. And MF following up his response with class.

For all his faults, I don't think you can say MF doesn't at least try to get better. Whether it's himself or his team. That's why I'm a fan and still believe in him.
