I've said that for years when there are fumbles and such in this day of replay. The refs should either swallow their whistle, or implement that once a whistle is blown the play is dead and anything that happens after the whistle didn't actually occur in terms of the play.

Btw that clusterfuck at the end of the half is exactly why the NFL originally had the "can't review a fumble if play blown dead".... because when a ref blows it dead as a spike, everyone stops playing. 6 ND guys standing around that ball. They added "clear recovery" only for when people keep playing naturally AND someone obviously recovers. The first condition was not met.

Refs got it very, very wrong and cost us at least 3.
