Im not a huge Obama fan but I can really appreciate how shaken he was about this when he spoke about it at his press conference

Like he said, when this happens, he's looking at it from the perspective of a father...in times like this, we all do...I can't comprehend actions like these...I lost my grandfather yesterday, but I'm happy he doesn't have to spend another day on this earth with all the madness that is going down

Obama really does hate gun violence I think this hit home with him. Obama is from Chicago and let me tell you we are having a ton of problems out here. In the bad neighborhoods people are just blowing each other away out here.

I know gang bangers blowing each other away is not the same as a school shooting (these young children are completely innocent) but I think the general area of gun violence really upsets Obama. He was shaken up after the Batman movie theater shooting as well.

Yeah it's terrible here, isn't it? You could tell that really hit close to home for him, but really, he's just a human being, and it hits us all close to home.

I cannot begin to even imagine the unspeakable horror these children faced. This is the sort of event that forces us to refocus energy on examining ALL aspects of society to ensure that these types of things don't happen again.

I don't suppose to even begin to know how terrible this must be for the families and the community in CT... thoughts with them. This is awful on so many different levels.

True story. I work in the Cook County criminal courthouse at 26th and Cal. Every day I read about the most appallingly brutal and pointless violence. It hasn't been this bad here since the crack epidemic in the 80's and 90's -- which Obama remembers well, as he lived and worked on Chicago's South Side during that time. Whatever your policy preferences are on the matter, you can't have a background like his, and have children of your own, without having an emotional reaction to gun violence like this. Just horrifying, and more horrifying because it happens all too often.

The 20 year old Adam was the shooter. His brother Ryan (24) is in custody for questioning.

Sounds like the other brother Adam was the gunman.

That's what it looks like now. Man, to have your brother do this, kill your mom, and maybe your day, and all those kids. And then for a few hours have your name being mentioned as the killer. I hope that kid did not have anything to do with his brother's actions.

Yeah they just showed video on CBS of the cops picking up Ryan Landza in Hoboken for questioning.

There are so many unanswered questions. Here is my question

From my understanding, this first started in the principles office? If so, how did he get into contact with 20 children? I would think the classrooms would go into lockdown.

That doesn't matter right now. 20 little kids and 20 bright futures were taken away today. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends that are hurting from this. Sickening

Absolutely tragic... My 15th month is in daycare and if I lost him I don't even know what i would do with myself. I would have to be medicated for a long, long time I'm sure.

My thoughts and prayers.

Really ... didn't the authorities in CT pick up somebody in camo in the woods surrounding the school? Thought that was the brother. This is weird.

He was went directly into one classroom - his mothers. From all accounts, it appears all 20 children were from this classroom.

I think I heard that it started in the classroom. Then he shot the principal after he exited the room and was proceeding down the hallway.

Just awful.

What a senseless tragedy. I am heart broken and will definently hug my boy a little tighter tonight. This is such a sad day, especially right before Christmas. My heart and prayers go out to all the families affected. Make sure you hold your little ones a little closer tonight and tell them you love them.

Makes me literally sick to my stomach that someone could do this. Very, very sad.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.

I really wish he didn't kill himself. Call me crazy, but lets say he was still alive. I would've hoped the police would've given the guy to the victim's parents and let them do what they want with him

Child killers don't do well in prison, either.

They almost always kill their selves. People that do this are cowards. Why do you think they never walk into a police station and do these types of crimes? They always go to a place where they are certain danger to themselves is not probable.

Schools,
Churches,
Theatres,
Colleges,
Etc.

I work at the 911 center in Nashville and completely agree with you. There are tons of horrible things that happen that never make it to the news.

Very true. I just think that the parents probably feel a sense of emptiness and they have no way of getting justice. I just think that's the only true way for them to get their own justice

So many un-Christian things I want to say about the killer............

God bless those that were defenseless and are now in the company of our good Lord.

My grandmother passed away last week and I would like to think that Lord needed her help with all these babies.

I have two kids ages 5 and 4 and I can't even begin to describe how I would react. Don't even want to think about it but definitely thinking of the homeschool option.

I just..........sigh........God bless

There is a profile here that for those of you who have been watching our society over the last decades should be able to recognize--

The shooter is almost always--MALE

The shooter is almost always --YOUNG---under 35 often under 25 or 30

The shooters are rarely black---mostly they are White or Asian or some other non/black ethnic mix---only shooter like this i can recall off hand that was black was the older guy in DC that shot people with his younger accompice--mostly these guys are white or asian

When a profile REPEATS & REPEATS like this , there is something going on that is indemic in the society--it is not the simple "we have crime because we have criminals" or we have mass killings because we have mass killers---that is just OSTRICH THINKING IMO.

So white or Asian male between the ages of 25-30? You just profiled me, probably 30 million other Americans and hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

i was listening to the director of Stanford's early childhood center on the radio this morning (after this shooting) and he was saying that because these types of events are so rare it is nearly impossible to profile these people in a way that could lead us to stopping these events from happening. While they do have the traits you described in common, and possibly some others: reclusive, emotional, have interests in weapons, etc, etc, that still does not narrow it down in a way that can actually help us prevent these types of occurrences.

Heart Broken!

Heart Broken!

I haven't cried for God knows how long. Having children in this age group, I can't stop thinking about how fearful and confused these children were at the time of this incident. I have been trained how to react when attacked by evil men and still find myself shaken when it is over. I pray for the victims of such a heinous crime!

After this I can't believe how important the Redfield commitment was to me yesterday!

I don't mean profiling as in searching the islamic looking fella getting on the airplane--afterall i profiled myself except for aging out of the profile!

Its just simple observation--- it is clearly not random or we would see women doing this---serial killers also fall into a similar profile except for age--they are usually somewhat older but are MALE and motly WHITE---

We clearly have some severely DYSFUNCTIONAL individuals that are flourishing in a society that seems to nurture those dysfunctions.

We are an UBER_COMPETITIVE society that tends to leave the weak & the non- competitive behind---we have a society that tends to isolate individuals as the community bonds of past era's give way to the cold isolation of "every MAN for himself"---We have some very unsympathetic views to mental illness which we hide and bury rather than confront and treat---

Self esteem for young white males is often not there in 21st century america---The majority of unhappy , frustrated , dysfunctional individuals of any age , ethnicity , or gender take there dysfunction out on themselves---SELF DESTRUCTIVE BEHAVIOR that underpins a society that is fixated on weight and yet is OBESE---many forms of self destructive behavior flood our society--SOMETIMES that anger turns from INWARD to OUTWARD---and then we get this.

Its predictable and it will not subside it will only worsen---- we need to approach the entire value system of what has become sometimes a heartless , competitive, materialistic communty that offers great things for some--and cold emptiness for many.
