Tomorrow is Saint Patrick's Day, what will you be eating and drinking?

I am making an Irish beef stew with a mashed potato bowl/bedding and a side of cabbage cooked with bacon drippings and bacon.

The drinks will be:
Guinness Draught
Guinness Extra Stout
Murphy's Irish Red

Jameson
Redbreast 12yo CS

First (from History.com):

"Corned Beef
Each year, thousands of Irish Americans gather with their loved ones on St. Patrick's Day to share a "traditional" meal of corned beef and cabbage.

Though cabbage has long been an Irish food, corned beef only began to be associated with St. Patrick's Day at the turn of the century.

Irish immigrants living on New York City's Lower East Side substituted corned beef for their traditional dish of Irish bacon to save money. They learned about the cheaper alternative from their Jewish neighbors."

Corned beef was produced in Ireland (after British "Landlords" brought cattle to the island) but was primarily an export item since the Irish couldn't afford it.

My paternal grandparents, Irish natives, had (eventually) a small neighborhood grocery store at 107th and Amsterdam in NYC – two doors down from a Jewish Deli. Beef was more plentiful in The States and therefore less expensive. Cabbage was still a staple, and "Corned Beef and Cabbage" was born!

I will be joining my son and a friend of his for our annual dinner (a 20 year tradition) at a local restaurant owned by an Irish family where they (grudgingly) serve up a shyte load of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and soda bread.

Fortunately they got a liquor license just about the time me boyo was old enough to drink. No more O'Doul's. Now we can savor Guinness, Harp or Smithwick's.

You're a (sniff) good son!

Try mashing Idaho/Russet potatoes with some sweets and turnip, rutabaga or parsnip sometime. A bit of fresh horseradish adds a good kick.

I took on the challenge of an acquaintance, a number of years ago. Tomorrow will be a day of fasting until a united Ireland is free. I will have one toast tonight to truth and freedom.

Potatoes and a dirty whore

I LOL'd!

Myself-very low key today. Before I went to bed I changed all the toilet water and milk green, made messes with the couch pillows and shoes then threw gold chocolate coins everywhere. A tradition in the Fbolt household. The kids think that Leprechauns were in the house last night.

Happy St. Paddy's Day.

Actually got to go out with my wife last night for the first time in a while...hit up downtown South Bend where they had some festivities going on. Had a good time, but felt it today. My wife isn't a drinker AT ALL but wanted to try a girlie drink, and the bartender hooked her up with a tasty but STRONG drink. SHe had a few sips, felt herself getting tipsy already, and so I finished it for her as any good husband would do. But mixing alcohols at my age just doesn't fly anymore LOL, so this morning suuuuuucked.

Here's my wife and baby girl in their Irish colors last night:

Tomorrow night we're going to some traditional dinner my wife's family has every St. Paddy's day, so that should be a tasty affair.

Enjoy the day everyone!

Corned beef, cabbage and potatoes tonight, so we can have corned beef sandwiches with spicy mustard tomorrow and of course shots of whiskey and cold beers.

Have a great day everyone!

The fact that he was there, and then that he made that kind of difference. Is there any way to keep track of the kind of pledges his pledge stimulates?

That is awesome and uncommon!

To be proper...the Roman Army introduced bagpipes to the Isles.

The Quiet Man is on TCM. If you've never seen it don't bother it's half way through. It's worth seeing from the beginning. For everyone else... I've got three to one on Thornton!

Better trace the origins of that, before you have it put on your face. You may have some English trying to beat the shiit out of you every time they see it! LOL.

Your arm might be good.

Bluto, you just crack me up! How in the hell have things been going.
