True. Farley would no longer be nickel. However I was still deluding myself that JO would be starting at Sam instead of the 4-2-5. Damn, a trio of Luke, Riggs and Russell is pretty awesome.

Absolutely. Farley has been thriving as the NB, but he's still a liability in coverage. Plugging Russell into our Nickel package could make a tremendous difference against some of the explosive spread offenses we'll be facing soon.

Agreed. We have played some mediocre quarterbacks and Mathias has been able to read them pretty well/play well in run support. I think that for your Florida State's and ASU's it'll be nice to have KVR back there instead.

Why should Russell play mop-up? He was our #1 CB coming out of camp and it wasn't even close according to most prognosticators.

You think missing a few weeks of football has made him that bad?

I don't think Russell is bad, I think Luke is a stud, Riggs has been playing very well and there is excellent chemistry. I think he needs a while to get re-integrated, prove he is not rusty, and earn his place. Otherwise, you might unnecessarily piss someone off during an awesome run. I'd make him compete with Butler for the 3rd spot. It would be nice to have him schemed to play the 3rd reciver at FSU. If they managed to get someone like Green isolated on him, you'd feel pretty good.

I'd be shocked if he hadn't been doing some form of football work while out.

He should have gotten one of the back-up QBs to throw to him against DD a thousand times a day. They are they best one on one match-up on our team. But I bet they didn't because DD doesn't seem like he's that kind of guy.

I'd be hesitant to mess with the chemistry. No one has really been much of a liability IMO. We haven't given up 20 points yet!

I didn't mean to imply that Russell should straight up replace Farley. We're basically operating out of a base 4-2-5, with Farley as a full-time starter now. On standard downs, I wouldn't change a thing. Farley's instincts are great, especially at sniffing out Screens; seems like he's racked up at least a couple TFLs in every game we've played.

Farley has been exposed in coverage several times. And Riggs has been abused by some big WRs and RBs (though he's held up well all things considered.)

We haven't given up 20 points yet!

We also haven't faced an explosive offense yet, and some of our upcoming opponents are bringing explosive spreads with them. I don't think subbing Russell in for Farley on passing downs, or for Riggs if he's getting run over, would hurt team chemistry much.

You won't find many takers. See my earlier post on this:

Timing was bad. I was responding as I read the posts, but go back and look at my original post. I would have stood by it with or without BK's presser.

In this case I am inclined to take no news as good news.... Or no news. If DD was booted no one would be able to stop him from expressing disappointment online. He'd have nothing to lose.

But, say he's cleared to play. I'd expect BK to be in his ear advising him to let it come out via a presser or by a higher authority. DD would most likely comply with that..

Seriously.. If he was already gone, him or his dad would have been tweet raging.

Hearings finished Friday, it's now basically Wednesday and they either 1) Haven't made a decision or 2) Haven't told the players.

Unfucking real.

Not completely understanding who , when, where? No disrespect. I'm just asking because I've missed the mishap other than bobbled punts.

LMAO... And a mailing committee surely needs a committee to appoint a top notch, no non-sense committee of individuals who are capable of forming said committee. No wonder JMac was such a whiny little girl when in said that a committee should be able to redo their own schedules to meet as a committee. Hell, 98% of the time, they're blowing days just forming committees. Committees kick arse.

With the university not having a press conference here, there could be a meaningful delay between when something happens and when we find out about it.

In addition to giving freshmen and sophomores great experience by continuing to play them, and by playing next to experienced guys like Russell and DD. The Irish will be so much better off next year for this....And it's a great boon for recruiting, too, since it continues to establish that Kelly will play freshmen: "If we offer you, and you come here, you know I have the confidence in you to play you right away."

This! This Is It! Great quote! Needs to go viral!

Hell, reminds me so much of our fine government. Unreal. The mailing committee will likely need a stamp committee to ensure you get the right postage.

I graduated with a biz degree from IU. In my more than 4 years (LOL) attaining that degree, I had fun and leaned, but 50+% of the educational process was nothing more than krapola, bureaucracy, and learning from mostly mental giants who were either life midgets, ultra liberals, or ultra conservative numbers crunchers. All with huge egos who prided themselves on the bureaucracy that was the university life. Not all my profs were in those categories, but most were. I feel sorry for the kids these days as I'm sure it's much worse than my early 90s experience. Honestly I'm not surprised by this, but I hoped ND could do better.

And that doesn't even take into account all the WKGs (wrong kind of guys) that will bail or fail classes. "
