Where would Kelly find the time to interview with an NFL team that hasn't even fired its coach during the middle of bowl preparation? And why would he hire a defensive coordinator if he hasn't even been hired?

Contact can happen without interviewing, and all the signs point to the Lions having contacted BK several times and with BK as their #1 candidate.

And obviously he hasn't hired a DC for a job he doesn't have yet. If BK stays at ND, then the new guy will be the DC at ND. But if not...

And I'm not saying this will happen, sorry if people think that's what I'm getting at. With the rumors out there, I was simply stating a possible explanation of recent events. Until BK explains otherwise, I will remain skeptical.

I read somewhere last night, don't have the link sorry, that our new DC hasn't interviewed yet but just had discussions with Kelly and agreed to the position. That he can't be announced because his interview is Monday, after the NFL season, which is basically a formality as he's agreed to take the job.

Kelly shouldn't say a thing. Coaches are in a no win situation when it comes to this stuff. The rumors come from people who know nothing. They just throw names out there. No need for Kelly to respond to every rumor that comes along. If that makes you insecure then so be it.

There are literally zero credible sources... Even Schefter who grasps at straws hasn't picked up a "Lead"

Not saying this is a false statement but boy do you love ESPN.

I actually never watch ESPN, and I don't care for them at all. I don't think I watched an episode of Sportcenter in 2013.

I follow Schefter on twitter, listen to Cowerd and SVP on the radio, love Jesse Palmer and Herbstreit calling games.

If credit is due, I will give it. I hold on grudges.

Low bar IMO .. Not saying he isn't, I'm saying he reports EVERYTHING and still hasn't touched this..

Completely disagree so let's leave it at that.

And that's one of many reasons I'm not worried about BK leaving for Detroit.

I'm unfortunately being relatively serious. Chet Coppock recently tweeted that BK will be interviewing as early as Monday with Detroit. And reports out of Detroit are that the owners focused on the 3 coaches... O'Brien, BK, and Dungy....

So why not introduce the new DC publicly?

If he's not going to be ND's DC.

You might want to re-read that tweet again and see if he said "will" or "could" interview.

Wow jimmy, this post seems a little off the deep end of conspiracy theorist. Have a beer bro and stop making shit up in your head.

Where are these signs? I'm still seeing absolutely nothing that says anything about this. As I said earlier, I very much doubt a franchise would be contacting other head coaches while they still have one under contract.

And if they had, then someone would have reported it by now. As soon as O'Brien hung up with the Texans, it was all over on every website/Twitter feed.

What signs, exactly?

Yeah. What signs? All I've seen is his name mentioned as one of maybe 10 people who may well be on their list, that sort of thing. This morning there were reports that the Lions may even keep their current guy. And there's nothing (aside from one Chicago radio guy) to suggest any interest on Kelly's part.
Doesn't mean there haven't been back-channel talks. It's possible. But how do we know?

Kelly accepted the Lions job right after he interviewed with the Eagles. They've just been waiting for the right time to announce it.
