If he takes the job, I'll bet 5 million vbucks (which is all I have) that he stays through the NC game. He's an emotional guy and he loves this team. He won't leave them stranded. Anyone for the bet?

Yes.

There is a 0% chance IMO he coaches in the NCG if he is hired by BC, and that is fine with me.

It will be interesting to see if people rag on him for leaving before the game (IF this even happens), seeing BK stranded Cincy weeks before the biggest game in their program's history.

It isn't personal, it's business. With that said, GET THE F HOME AND START PREPARING FOR BAMA BOBBY!

I trust in Kelly and more importantly Jack Swarbrick to keep this program headed in the right direction with or without Diaco.... I hope he stays but if not, I'm glad Jack is running the show.

That brings up another point I have been thinking about.

Consider this - If BC wants Diaco NOW before the NC, in essence they are asking him to sacrafice a huge career-defining moment in order to get started working for them. So not only would he lose the enjoyment of competing for a NC with the players he is I'm sure very close to, he would miss the ultimate opportunity for a college coach that he may never see again, all at BC's request. I would like to think that a potential employer who really wants a candidate would be willing to not force him into that situation. if your prospective employer starts out on that note, what can you only logically expect for your future treatment?

If you hire a guy to do an incredibly competitive job, and pay him well for it, and he puts your program on the backburner so he can help out a traditional rival what does that say about your future treatment?

I will always love the Diaco. He's my boy. It was never personal Sonny!

Exactly. He has my blessing, but dammit it's a tough pill to swallow. I liken this to seeing your daughter go to the prom. You knew the day was coming, but nothing can prepare you for it.

I'm hearing that your blessing was all he was waiting on.

;)

I'm totally with you.

Meant to say if he leaves, I'll put a gypsy curse on his hair that will make him completely bald by 2015.

That's too kind. Bald is the trend right now. Get ruthless. Put a curse on him that makes his hair resemble Andrew Bynum's... Just sayin'

I'm going to relax until we see more than a couple tweets. I don't doubt that he is in fact interviewing, but none of us know what his interest level is and how attached he is to his job at Notre Dame and this depressing speculation is making me nervous. So I'm going to stay away from this thread until something new and concrete pops up.

250 posts in one day because our D coordinator (and most awesome dude of all dudes) is interviewing for a job right before the NCG with one of our rivals.

Surprised there aren't more posts... Even if nothing comes of this interview, at some point Diaco is moving on to be a head coach.

I love Diaco. It would suck if he left, especially right before the title game. I really like how he bonds with his players, and they want to win for him. If he does leave I will wish him well wherever he goes. Classy guy. I totally trust Kelly and Jack to fill the void with a good defensive coach.

With all that said, I do not think every good or even great coordinator or assistant coach is cut from the head coach thread. I want to go on record to say I do not think Diaco will be a great program building head coach. I am not sure his personailty is the big picture type of person that great head coaches often are. He seems more like the deep thinker type who can gets bogged down in the details of matters and thereby never be able to give time and attention to the broad scope of responsibilites demanded of a head coach. Time will tell, and I hope I am wrong. But it looks like only a matter of time before we find out.

not sure as to how that is any different or negatively effects Diaco/new team... if anything it would place a brighter light on him since it woud be a major story line and we prob lost due to too many points against lol... so without him there were not the same team -- come to BC

You just said what I said.

I don't think there is anything to worry about; interview went like this:

-Diaco showed-up at 4am; Bates arrived at 11

-Diaco asked to see the weight room; Bates said, "uh, what..oh sure we just upgraded our faciliies"
vintage-fitness-devices-02.jpg

-Diaco asked what the recruiting budget was for 2012; Bates, after confirming, responded "in the six figures". Diaco said: "no, I don't want to know what is left for 2012; what was it for the entire year"; Bates laughed nervously

-Diaco asked about attendance during the season; Bates responded that it is slightly better than what Charley Molnar is seeing at UMass despite having almost identical records

-Bates cluster-f***ed the close of the interview by remarking that he always thought Diaco was taller than Doug Flutie

I like Diaco he has done a great job here. If he leaves i think Kelly needs to go get another top defense coordinator that is a good recruiter.

The word I heard is that ND is working on his contract and he is testing the waters to get more $$. The bigger problem is longevity. He wants a multi-year contract and ND does 1 year contracts for all coaches except the Head Coach. That could be the stumbling block.

I suppose I can dump some vbucks into his account to keep him.

ND should make him an exception.

It's been since '88 that we contended.

Clearly he is part of an "exceptional" program.

An integral part.
