In the last week ND has offered at least 4 1st rate prospects.

Three bulldozers at OL. All real Kelly type linemen---the latest
Jordan Simmons---6-5/300 more or less and
Kyle Murphy----6-6/280 both from Calif---and
Dan Voltz----6-3/285 from Chicagoland.

Three really tough, hard nosed OL guys.

Then just for the fun of it they recruited Nick Baratti an ordinary little 6-2/195 Safety.

The Calif guys might want to leave the West Coast and see what America is all about---
who knows? The Coachs are really doing their jobs.

Is Murphy currently a Juco? The only guy under that name I found on Rivals was committed to Cal-Poly.

Kyle Murphy

No, Murphy is not a juco---he is legit. Got offered by USC yesterday as well. He grew up in the shadow of their campus----tough. They have him as 6-7/268.

Just noticed Rivals now has a story re: Kyle on their front page.
A picture as well ---and a fine looking broth of a lad Mrs Murphy's son is.
He'd look grand in an Irish uniform.

Anyone have any idea if were supposed to pull in any commits this weekend?
Texas is always big about Jr. Days, and we don't normally have one,do we?
I'm just not very familar with it. If anyone's heard anything, even rumors, I'd love to hear it.

I believe it was Bob Davie who made Jr Days and Summer Camp valuable recruiting tools for ND. They were around before him but were a big factor as I recall. Rocky Boiman was one of the first I recall getting offered at an ND summer camp.

Oh to be Texas at this time of year huh??? Good news is just about every single team in the country is equally filled with envy over Texas' early recruiting success each year

Verbals at Junior Day

Verbals at Junior Day

I have not seen one word regarding verbals. There will be some kids
there who have been offered, so anything can happen.

Nick Baratti and Dan Voltz are two who just might, but don't say
I said so. It would be nice to get the ball rolling.

If a lad always wanted to attend ND and gets an offer why wait.
Sign on, and relax for the rest of the year. Only about 345 days til NSD.

So true, how can you not be envious of the results, every single year? We'll offer who we want, and they'll all commit, because we are Texas, and it's a way of life.

But if we were Texas, then we'd have to be Texas. Not worth it.

One thing that I've taken away from the Texas recruiting phenomenon is what a mediocre bunch they must have on their coaching staff. No matter how you try to alibi whatever alleged "difficulties" they might have on any given year, how they are not in serious NC contention every year is a tribute to that mediocrity. There should be a slogan: "Come to UT and figure your own career development out."

3 more yesterday

3 more yesterday

Before that, I must agree with Mike---Texas does not seem to get the
most out of all those great recruits. Or are the recruits over hyped?

The ND Staff is made up of busy bees.
They keep offering top notch players and will have a helluva job
sifting them all out. Once the players respond and show their
interest and produce their grades it will kinda shake itself out.

Yesterday they offered--

Alex Carter, son of Tom Carter--ND Star, Alex is a fine CB/RB in Va
at 6-0/190 he is a Kelly type CB.

Corey Smith--6-0.170 1st team all Ohio WR and

Jarrod Wilson a 6-2/190 hard hitting safety from Ohio.

All are stars to add to the other stars the Staff has offered.

And that would put me in close proximity to Jerry Jones and the Cowboys......I think I would need serious medication or alcohol to deal with all those fools and their fans.

while im no fan of cowboys or longhorns, i do enjoy drugs and alcohol so that may not be thaaaaat bad!

I'd kind of agree with OMM to a degree. They have been cleaning up in recruiting, they probably have the greatest built in advantages in the country, and not a ton to show for it.

A .796 winning percentage is awesome, but only 2 conference titles and 1 national title in a dozen years, when the Big 12 was pretty weak during that time. And one of those seasons they needed black Jesus to win the title.

They had a down year! What a tough crowd. Texas didn't reload this year so they have a terrible coaching staff now! It happens from time to time. They have been reloading for the last decade, I'll give the program one year to jack it up. You don't just automatically reload for an entire decade and have a **** program. Now if they have another down year, then you'd have more of an argument about a lack of development. However, along with that, they just lost an enormous portion of their coaching staff this offseason.

So is Florida a waste of talent to the same extent??? because their numbers over the same period are pretty much the same with the exception of winning their second title apperance... i don't see it

Texas just set a record for consecutive 10 win seasons did they not???

Everyone can have it their own way. My experience watching Texas football is that only recently have they had any real toughness on that team. Even Mack Brown himself admitted that during those earlier ten-win type seasons when they'd blow out all their patsies, they would lack toughness in the games against the real studs.

They, in fact, were the classic definition of front-runners---get a poorer team down and wallop them by 50. Brown claimed that he had to get increased toughness on both lines to stand up against certain teams [read: Oklahoma and whoever they got in the bowl]. I know many football fans in Texas [where my brother resides] who characterize Brown as a great recruiter who is just an average coach.

But what-the-hell, have it your way if it makes you happy. For me, getting everyone you want and being unprepared for elite competition in the average year, means poor player development.

Yes...I'd say 3 conference titles and 2 national titles coming out of the SEC is much better than what Texas has achieved since 1998.

It's not saying Texas has been bad, that's ridiculous...just underachieved somewhat. I know plenty of Longhorn fans who think exactly that.

They've been breezing through seriously weak OOC schedules and are 6-7 vs. Oklahoma under Mack Brown (including losing 5 straight at one point and winning only 4 out of the last 11 against OU).

Would you say Tom Osborne was a poor developer of talent.... or an average coach? Just trying to fully grasp where this is coming from.

those seriously weak OOC's have included tOSU, Arkansas and TCU recently for what that's worth and I don't think any record against OU should be some black mark...

saying UT underachieves seems crazy to me... recruiting is part of the whole program.... home run... winning games is part of it... also, home run... sending players to the league... again, home run... what would be an acceptable outcome for Texas in your opinion??

comparing them to maybe the two or three programs that have recruited with them over this time and saying, "See, they underachieved"... i don't see it.

as far as OMM commenting on toughness... fair enough, though now that they are tough they lose more games then they win?? Maybe they should have stayed soft... lol

The last numbers are the AP and Coaches rankings. There is no way you can convince me they have underachieved. How many programs have had a better 12 years? They have great classes, but so have the other top schools. I don't for one minute buy that they have underachieved or have been poor at developing talent. To me, that's lunacy.

This is LSU. They produce an incredible amount of in state talent, in addition to poaching Texas and the rest of the South. They are consistently at the top of the recruitniks boards.

seven top ten finishes in ten years is hard to argue with imo... only SC can argue a better run over that time frame...

and yes, the Big 12 has been up and down, but it has had it's years and is NOT some pushover two team conference... anyway, UT is not my team... so whatever.... it just jumped out at me.

This is Ohio State in the last ten years. Ohio State has choked in big games as well in the last ten years. I mean, badly, worse than Texas in my estimation. Do they underachieve with their talent as well?

I think Texas just serves to illustrate exactly how hard it really is to win NCs in College Football these days- should be something to keep in mind for ND fans who think that because we got a nice recruiting class we should clean up in 2012.
