Correct. He proved Angeli is the guy.

RL 🤝 Belldozer (Blake Bell, OU)
Angeli isn't starting a game for Notre Dame. If there was ever a week to give him a chance to be the guy, it was this one. And they went with Leonard and he delivered.

Dude do you want ND to be a good football program or do you want ND to not throw passing touchdowns? Believe it or not, that's a binary choice.
The best case scenario for this season is that Riley Leonard builds off this performance and improves passing the ball

My worthless thoughts after attending the game and watching a rerun.

1. The disparity in talent was very noticeable. Purdue is hot garbage on both sides. If we hadn’t won like we did, I would still be concerned.
2. For those of you in the Leonard thread that have been wanting Carr and Minchey over Angeli, are you still wanting them to play ahead of Angeli?
3. The difference in field awareness between Leonard and Angeli is night and day. Angeli doesn’t panic in the pocket, goes through his reads and isn’t afraid to get hit. Leonard missed some guys that were wide open because he rarely looks downfield. He’s still confused by zone D’s.
4. Spindler played very well. I didn’t see any drop off from Schrauth.
5. A good and loud turnout by the Irish faithful. Much louder than what you heard on TV.
6. Love. What can you say about his speed, vision, cutting and ability to make guys miss?

Now we just need to get a wide receiver a touchdown.
Yeah, WRs are the most diva position as it is. I’m sure they’re thrilled running wide open only to watch RL run it again. Reminded me of Michael J Fox’s teammates in Teen Wolf. “Yeah, I’m glad we’re winning but pass the F’ing ball”

rewatching the game, that Dillon Thieneman for Purdue might have played the worst game I’ve ever seen, almost feel bad for him. He missed a tackle or blew an assignment on almost every touchdown / big play - total whiffs . PFF missed tackle record bad. Thought he could be a game wrecker going into game.
Absolute joke that this guy is touted as an All American. He was awful.

Rushing touchdowns count the same as passing touchdowns. Team responded and won be a lot. I’m going to high five my wife and have some more to drink.
Does that mean you’re took down the For Sale sign in his yard?

Just cant/dont see ND prevailing against the good teams with this offense. When the D can play a short field and not fear the deep ball, it puts the O in a compromised situation. Louisville and SC wont be held to 7 pts by the D and without any passing threat, there is no way the O can produce enough.
is there any teams other than GT and Navy that the QB runs 90% of the time and is no threat with the pass?

I don’t think even GT plays that way anymore.

Botelho looked like a patella. Wonder if he can med redshirt and come back next year

Whatever it was it looked serious. If he only plays three games this year he should be eligible to come back next year right?

Though I guess he's already in his Covid year and fifth season (Has appeared in 51 games for us since showing up in 2020. Probably the most experienced guy on the team except maybe Kiser.) I dunno how that might affect eligibility for next year.

Postgame Thoughts:
1. A tale of 2 teams ND was against NIU and Purdue.
2. Postgame Freeman said they were hungry, be hungry for 9 more games, and put up 66 points given the chance.
3. ND 100% beats NIU if Angeli is put in at QB.
4. Still 0 TD passes for Leonard, this is a big concern.
5. No Kris Mitchell??
6. Did Greathouse only get PT on punt returns??
7. O-line needs to roll with Spindler in the starting lineup.
8. Happy for Kevin Baumann to get a TD- the injury bug hasn't been kind to him.
9. If Botelho is done for the season hopefully he can apply for another season next year he was having a great season. Bryce Young's turn.
10. When Hudson Card entered the portal I wanted ND to get him, we dodged a bullet.

Bonus
Leonard gets his first TD next week. We are in the red zone on the 3, he attempts the pass (it's within his yardage of throwing), it bonces off a Miami, OH helmet and Leonard catches it for a Leonard-Leonard TD.

Go Irish!!

Maybe MF is smarter than we think (let's give him the BotD for a moment) and he knows what he's doing... He's just waiting for RL to f--- it up so bad that it's so damn obvious a new QB has to come into the game to save the day (or, instead, RL gets hurt) and then we finally move forward nearing the CFB playoffs with a new passing QB and momentum (and allow him to save face with Collective and all that NIL $ spent on RL!)... A girl can dream 🍀🍀🍀

Yeah, I think that we were sold a bill of goods on Rendell. Very underwhelming thus far! Averaging only 39.1 yds per punt and 37 yds net (minus the return yards). Definitely can't flip the field with him punting!
guy is the worse punter we have ever had. Name one. He can pooch punt and that is it. ST coach has to be asking him to get his shit together. Can you cut a scholarship player mid season? Can Buchner punt?

People keep saying I don’t know how this offense works against a good team, like we didn’t put up 350 yards under the lights at Texas A&M. We aren’t going to face a defense that good the rest of the year.
356 yards of total offense isn’t a very good mark. We had 55 more yards than a Florida did yesterday and both teams had 5.6 yards/play.

Also, look at recent playoff game totals. You are not beating a playoff team of years past with 350 yards of offense.

We won that game on the backs of a Connor Weigmann dumpster fire and incredible defensive performance.
