Your wasting your time. Wiz is the type of consumer who believes he has good taste because someone explained how composite is a bit more expensive than home depot lumber but lasts longer.

He's not in the price bracket for higher end wood decks judging from his sartorially minded posts.

IPE would be a nice choice if I were putting in a deck in a long term/forever home.

Wiz would probably like a "alley lane" look to go with his bowling looking shoes.

Yeah, that stuff is beautiful. A guy I work with helps install ipe decks on the side. Not easy to work with.

Marble is for poors too. Granite tbqh.

I tend to agree. I don't think that a marble deck would stand up to the weather extremes in MN.

Freezing and thawing during the five or six months of winter, followed by a week or two of (sporadic) extreme heat, take a toll.

If you think I'm bad at finishing a bathroom you should see how incompetent I am when it comes to electronics. So new house has 4 of these mounted speaker wires for surround sound, and they run to these outlet behind tv.

No idea what I need to buy or do in order to utilize these 4 wired outlets. Do I need just 4 speakers, or an entire system with subwoofer and centerpiece? any advice appreciated.

I'm just wondering what's the best way to strip off the existing without breaking my back. If it needed to be re-stained every year, that'd be true whether I pressure wash it, or use a stain remover with a brush, you know what I mean? I'm just curious what the best way is to get the existing crap off.

Well I listened to you for my 401 investments, so now I am super poor.

Start with pressuring washing. Any residual you can attack manually. Since it's an oil based paint, I would use paint stripper on any residual. Then clean it with a thinner and stain or paint or replace with composite or replace with marble or limestone or just rip it ou and be done. Never have to stain or clean again!

Pressure washing isn't a detriment as long as the upkeep is consistent, that's all. I've pressure washed and re-stained my deck every year since we built it, and it's still in tip-top shape.

Buy better stain or do a better job. It lasts longer than a year.

Tub and faucets installed. Time to get the glass walls and door installed.

Our new home is a 2002 build and by the looks of it the deck could have been from the original build.

Stripped floor boards and sanded railings. Looking almost as good as new and ready for that new semi transparent stain.

Yes.

I did a "grab" of the PhotoBucket notice on your post, uploaded it to PhotoBucket, then copied the IMG file, and directly pasted it into my post.

Clearly, it worked so I don't know just what the problem is.

Maybe it's a matter of changing your settings from Private to Public.

What color stain are you going with?

Looks great. Nice work.

Thanks. Just picked up the toilet during lunch. Put the vanity and cabinets back in last night, but the countertop doesn't work (color scheme) so we need to find a new one. Once the glass enclosure is up, it will be the shitz.

Ran into an issue with my garage door/opener today that made for a really fun start to our day. It’s a Craftsman 3/4 HP garage door opener. I’ve been slumming it up until this point in my life, and never had a garage door opener until now.

It opens like 2 feet and then just stops. It’ll go back down, and every time you try to open it, it’ll stop in the same spot. My wife and I cleared everything on the inside and out, looked at the tracks it runs on, and everything looks normal and clear. I noticed one sensor is solid green and the other is solid yellow, but apparently this is correct because one’s sending and one’s receiving. So I’m really not sure what the issue is, and going to try to figure it out when I got home.

I have a bum leg right now, and my wife is over 7 months pregnant, so this is not the ideal time for me to be hulking up and down a 2 car garage door.

Spring broke or gears worn maybe?

No signs of the spring breaking, although I was running late so I had only ~15 mins. But nothing noticeably to the untrained eye.

Gears worn - no idea. Maybe. Not sure if that's something I'll be able to see. If I can't figure out something tonight, I'm going to call in the serviceman.

Be careful messing with garage door springs. It can end badly if you dont know what you are doing.

I will say - it's a 2 car door and it was very heavy for me to open manually. It didn't get "stuck" at any point of me opening it, but it was very heavy from start to finish. Like I said I have a bum leg, but even so.

Did you get your car out of the garage? or was your car outside already?

Easy way to test the spring is to have the door shut and try lifting the door. Depending on the size of the door (2 car door versus single), the weight of the door will vary. But no matter what, if the spring is working, manually lifting the door should require minimal effort and allow literally most adults under the age of 70 to open. If the spring is broken, it will be heavy and will be hard to stop when closing and will tend to slam shut without some strength stopping it.

From your description, my money is on the spring. Hard to spot issues in the spring, but one tiny crack will prevent the door from opening.

Edit - saw your last post. It's the spring.

Based on all of your context/questions, it's as if you were there watching me (creep).

But what you said is exactly what I experienced today from opening/closing it manually. Because of my leg, I couldn't close it down to the bottom completely, I had to drop it the last few inches, it basically slammed.

So I'm just going to call and get someone out. Any idea what I should be expecting to pay? $200? $500?

Depends on the service provider and if you are willing to wait for the cheaper ones. Definitely not more than $500, $200-$400 depending on timeliness.
