Snippet from The Athletic about the transition to Deion being super shady and unethical. Kids who the AD *promised* would have scholarships and pressured them into not decommitting being cut by Deion at the 11th hour and having to scramble for a new school:
In all, 13 recruits have parted ways from Colorado’s class since Sanders was hired. Several have already found a new home. Others are in the process of doing so. What bothers at least two former commits, they say, is that Colorado athletic director Rick George called and asked them to remain committed to the program shortly after former coach Karl Dorrell was fired in October.

“I was told by Rick George I was going to have a scholarship regardless of who the coach was going to be,” said Tyrone McDuffie, an offensive lineman from El Paso (Texas) Parkland High. “He called me and my dad and he wanted the 2023 class to stay together. He said I was going to have a chance to be a Colorado Buffalo regardless of who he hired. They even sent former offensive line coach (Kyle) DeVan down to El Paso, Texas, to talk to me and my head coach and tell me stuff is going down, but you’ll still have a chance to be a Colorado Buffalo.

“Nobody from the new coaching staff called me. (Bryant) called me and told me what went down. You could say there was a little bit of anger, frustration. This was our future they were messing with. It sucks because we coul

Dorrell got fired at the start of October when the team was winless. The A.D. proceeded to tell verbal commitments they would still have scholarships and he didn't know who his HC was going to be at that time?

He promised them that regardless of who was hired they would have a scholarship. And then he hired Deion, let him cut a bunch of players, and ghosted everyone he lied to.

This sucks for the recruits any way you slice it, but in reality I think they and their parents were just a tad bit naive to think that was etched in stone if it was anything less than etched in stone.

Surely they'll all find homes where they can sign but I would have been talking to other schools.

Dumb promise by the AD but if Deion doesn’t think they can play at the level he wants, they need to find elsewhere. Thats reality. And taking them to then recruit over them and force them into an even tougher situation in the portal in a year or two does even less favors. Again dumb by the AD.

Exactly, and reality is quite new right now as we enter the era we are in. If you think it was cutthroat before, the world we live in now is going to be even far more harsh and without much loyalty than it was before.

NIL and The Portal are here. These recruits are free to move around just as the coaches do. With that being said, when an A.D. fires a coach in October and you verballed to that guy, you'd better start lining up a contingency plan fast. Keep your verbal public and keep a contact with an assistant that remains but visit and be open to other programs you want you and or express interest.

Yeah the AD seems to be the one to blame here not Prime. He shouldn’t be saddled with players he wouldn’t offer scholarships to just because the AD made them a promise.

The entire "commitment" process has to be reevaluated these days. Many players are so flaky, even more so now with NIL in play.

While I'll never condone shady tactics by coaches, it happens often. I also think coaches today are in a tough spot. Players can bolt at any time before a signing day (and after through the transfer portal), and yet a coach/university is supposed to "honor their word."

I think the whole thing needs to be revisited to negotiate agreeable terms between players and coaches/universities. Not sure what the solution is, but something is likely to change in the near future seeing how "my word is my bond" is no longer true on either side.

But he wanted to play for an HBC. Everyone that pays attention knew that was bullshit.
I read a comment that he said he committed to coach prime, and that he wants to honor that commitment by following him. That is why prime will be successful. Kids don’t care about the school as much as the person. Which is why Prime will probably have a new gig in 2024.

So you are betting on Prime winning at CU?

There's a reason several schools much better than Colorado passed on Deon. Love him to death but all the hot takes when the cameras are on isn't going to win many games. He will elevate the Buffs no doubt. But he probably isn't going to get them to the top... even in a depleted Pac 12.

Deion is going from the Jackson water crisis to the looming Colorado water crisis. You guys simply don't see the humanitarian end game he's playing here.

I think he's assembled a very good staff for a program that has nowhere to go but up. I'm rooting for CU to do well. Deion Sanders is disrupting a system and a network full of people that are afraid of him. He doesn't look like them, talk like them, dress like them or do anything that would be considered conventional even by the standards of the CFB coaching profession today. I have no idea what his end game is but I know he did good for JSU and is likely going to do good for CU. 5 years ago I would have thought this would end in disaster but we're playing a new game on a new field with new rules. Really, no rules.

We need more competitive programs outside of the SEC and Ohio State.

Did anyone see the Tweet he sent out this morning?
He is basically tampering on the down low.
Says he is looking for a couple of DL, & says he ain’t hard to find, even on Christmas.
So he is telling DL to contact him today about transferring.

I think the difference is “the portal.”
Deon doesn’t care if you are in the portal or planning on going into the portal.
Evidently he has been letting it be known that even if your aren’t in the portal yet, contact him, & he will tell you to go in the portal & then get you.
That’s why I said “down low tampering.”

Apparently neither do we considering we are reportedly likely to land someone not in the portal and Rees spent a week with his whereabouts intentionally hidden by the media.

That player, during the season, said he was moving on. Then he contacted ND first.
That is a lot different than Deon telling kids to contact him & he will let them know if he wants them and then then they go in the portal.
We are all intelligent here. We can see the difference.
