The following story is alleged to have happened (by my Father). Part of me doubts it happened (at least not all of it). And yet, my father insists it happened and from the earliest days of him telling this story (30 or so years ago) it has remained extremely consistent in the numerous times that he has since retold it.

My Dad was in Cincinnati for a business trip and rain into Deion in the elevator when he and his colleagues were heading out to dinner. They knew who Deion was (this is when he was still playing football and baseball) but didn't make a big deal about being in the elevator with him and just continued to discuss their dinner plans. At a certain point, Prime jumped in and asked if he could tag along because they were going to one of his favorite places.

Now, they all thought it was odd that Deion would want to hang out with a bunch of mid-level AT&T managers. My Dad even asked if he didn't have a team function or anything he needed to be at. But, Deion said no and so they all went out to dinner. At the end of the meal, Deion put down his credit card and told them not to worry about anything. Then he asked if they were going back to the hotel or going anywhere else. They said they were going out for drinks and Deion came along again and paid for it all. At some point, my Dad made a comment about all of Deion's jewelry and if it wasn't kind of annoying to wear. Deion laughed and pointed to his diamond necklace and said, "Signing bonus - they can't take taxes on this like they would have if I just took the money."

The next morning, they were in the elevator heading down to breakfast and who enters - you know it, Coach Prime. Deion asked what they were doing for breakfast and when they said that they were just eating at the hotel he told them to forget it - come with me, I know a place. Once again, he picked up the tab.

Now, my first question as a 10 year old when my Dad got back and told us the story was to ask why he didn't get Deion's autograph for us. My Dad laughed and said, "The guy was paying for my dinner, my drinks and my breakfast. I didn't want to impose on him by asking for an autograph on top of it."

Since that time, I've always been a Deion fan. And, I really want to believe that the story is true.
Why would you doubt a story from your father?

I looked into Prime Academy - seems to have been a huge fail, especially financially. It's unclear how much of that falls on Sanders since he was not an administrator.

Regarding football, though, he turned around the Jackson State football program, going undefeated this year with back to back SWAC conference championships.

I watched the first meeting with the colorado team and some other talks he gives - he's actually a very effective speaker and motivator.

He had to be. He played a position that didn't exactly get paid a lot in the NFL, and he had a promise to his mom that he would make it to where she never had to work again. The best way to increase his ability to make money was to portray a persona that was so outrageous that most people were quickly polarized into the love him or hate him camps. But he got people to watch him, and he had the skills to back up his mouth, and most importantly, kept his promise
You should write a hallmark movie about this wonderful story that I don’t give a shit about.

I like it if he can beat USC every year.

Honestly though, who the fuck doesn't know Deion Sanders? I find it interesting/unbelievable that sports interested people don't know this person.

They only play next year right?? Doesn’t the SC move happen in 24?

Maybe...lol. Per usual, right? Deion I think has ego that doesn't play second fiddle. He can sit on his ass for the rest of his life if he wants, but his aspirations are leading him in this direction. An 1-11 P5 team in a very subpar conference - sounds golden opportunity to me...

I'm intrigued. Can't get worse, so why not?

He most certainly thinks that it’s sky is the limit and with the portal he can flip things quick,… he’s right too. Just he’s to make it happen.

Ask your Dad if this is how Prime looked when he met him.

We will all see soon but I'm not betting against Deion. Especially in that junk football conference.

Did you know Deion has a career MLB batting average of .263?

Along with 182 swiped bags meaning his singles were doubles. OBP% was subpar (for his status) as well at .319 which is most important for a lead off hitter. His defense was superb, so no concerns there. He swung and missed way too much with 350+ strikeouts...can't happen unless you're dropping bombs.

Worldly athlete with every tool. No doubt about that. Can he coach? So far, so good...I like this hire.

I'd put a lot of money on this tweet being some kind of "false". Number one, primetime doesn't have enough money to be spending like they are talking about in that tweet. They are doing this to preserve the image of Deion leaving his team and going to a higher program. This way, he was forced out instead of choosing to leave on his own volition. Maybe their was a misuse of funds but that tweet was so pro-Deion, I gagged a little.

Is Deion and CU the new Saban and Bama? He received a commitment from a 2 star offensive lineman and rivals immediately bumped the kid up a star and now have him as a 3 star. Lol!

His reported net worth is about $45 million. Seems like he was spending a lot of money while donating his JSU salary, as reports suggest.

This can’t be true. Whiskey told me Prime was a scum bag.
I didn't say he was a scumbag. I said he's looking out for himself above all else, and that his willingness to do business with unethical people will burn those who put their faith in him.

I have no idea how true it is, but it did seem a little fishy.

There are 30 for 30 full length docs about both Deion and Bo. People should know who they are regardless of that.

He did state in a 60 Minutes interview that if he got a legit financial offer from a P5 School he would have to seriously consider it.

The guy is not the Pope or have a Vow of Fidelity to JSU. He did a lot of great things at JSU but he was never going to stay at JSU.

Yes he is out for himself- so are most HOF Coaches. I am not expecting Gandi type of ego from a college football coach. Good grief.

I think the bigger issue is his personality might get him in trouble. I noticed he called one reporter "sweetie" at the presser. LOL

I remember that MLB season so vividly. Specifically, McCarver going off on him incessantly during a broadcast of one of the games. I remember my dad getting irritated about it, like just let it go and commentate on the game. Deion throwing water on McCarver I remember very vividly too. Like it was yesterday.

Deion was Deion and Bo was Bo, so people had beef with Deion doing two sports and not with Bo. It made sense then and it makes sense now. Never knew until my adult years his contract ended at the end of July but he was still playing while contractually bound to the Falcons.
