I’ve never created a thread before, but it seems appropriate at the behest of others’ reasonable recommendations to keep Deion related content out of other feeds. We already have a food thread (Dante) and do not need that kind of inevitable derailment to happen again so soon.

Please feel free to spurn me if one already exists. (And then merge or bring to the front page as appropriate.)

Good luck with your first thread.

Looking forward to the "Coach Prime Revisited" thread after he loses his first game.

If he really had the pick of CU, Cincinnati and USF you'd have to wonder why he just didn't go with the low hanging fruit of Cincinnati versus a couple of 1-11 teams. At this point, though, the landscape of the sport is upside down and even the worst 1-11 team can be flipped fast.

I question the narrative around him on this board going to CU when you consider USC went from 4-8 to 11-2 at the drop of a hat because they added 20 some odd transfers. Yeah, Colorado sucks right now, but it's also 2022 going into 2023 and college football is a lot different right now. So much so that one of the seals of the apocalypse was opened. It's a 1-11 team that lost 11 by a lot and beat Cal in OT. When they go to TCU in September, it's going to look a lot different.

Absolutely no reason why CU can't go 6-6 and get to a bowl. If not better. They have access to recruits, transfers, JUCO.

I'm 35 years old and only know of him in name and he is a old NFL player. Gonna be hard for 16,17 and 18 year old kids to know who he is without youtube or their uncle hanging around.

Prime is a great hire for Colorado. If he flames out he’ll at least be fun and his ceiling is higher than most. What’s the point on hiring some retread who may get you to 8-4.

I’m the old days you’d worry about being left on probation, Now it’s the Wild West so why not take a swing.

Deion has been on tv for years and worked for Barstool at that for a few. I’d be legit shocked if a single Top 100 recruit doesn’t know who he is. He’s a Top 10 cool athlete ever.

Deon had over 2100 major league at bats. Crazy.

I think he's made himself relevant in the pop culture world since then with all the Jackson State stuff. I'm 20-something and had no idea who he was until he reinserted himself into the conversation a couple years ago. I think he's successfully made himself very "relevant" again with all the HBCU publicity, the Travis situation, a very active YouTube account engaging with pop culture stuff etc. So kids know who he is, then look up his playing career and are amazed.

And as whopping 5.5 WAR and 89 OP+ for his 9 year career.

He sucked at baseball. Nothing more than a novelty, except the one year he was ... ok (1992), when he hit a shit ton of triples.

Didn’t Brandon Innis move back his signing because of Prime going to Colorado?

He's MFMF on crack.

For every reason kids want to play for Freeman amplify 10 fold for Coach Prime.

He seriously got a top recruit to go to JSU.

I'd be offended by that comparison if I were Freeman. He's already proven a lot more coaching at the P5 level and he has none of Deion's many red flags. Prime may be successful at CU, but I'm picking Freeman over him as the HC of ND 10/10 times.

If it wasn’t for that pesky Hall of Fame career in football, he probably could have put up better numbers. What a scrub. Good call.

All these kids parents know who he is though. The guy was a pioneer of the sports center “look at me” culture. He certainly has the ability to sell himself. Buckle up.

I'm old enough to remember all this I guess... THe helicopter into the playoff game after a NFL game during the day.... it was wild. It also shows how far humility goes because my hero growing up was Bo Jackson. I still love the guy. I HATED Prime as a kid... he was everything I hate about Caleb Williams now but back in 1992...

Today?? I'm curious and figure if the sport is going where it's clearly going then Prime,... I wish you luck so long as your interests don't conflict with mine.

This is where I'm at. I don't wish him ill, and would be happy to see him make some noise in the PAC-12. But I've worked with several former athletes like Deion, and: (1) you should never invest with one of these guys; and (2) you should never want a guy like him associated with ND.

He had to be. He played a position that didn't exactly get paid a lot in the NFL, and he had a promise to his mom that he would make it to where she never had to work again. The best way to increase his ability to make money was to portray a persona that was so outrageous that most people were quickly polarized into the love him or hate him camps. But he got people to watch him, and he had the skills to back up his mouth, and most importantly, kept his promise.

I'd be offended by that comparison if I were Freeman. He's already proven a lot more coaching at the P5 level and he has none of Deion's many red flags. Prime may be successful at CU, but I'm picking Freeman over him as the HC of ND 10/10 times.
Exactly what red flags does Sanders have?

The following story is alleged to have happened (by my Father). Part of me doubts it happened (at least not all of it). And yet, my father insists it happened and from the earliest days of him telling this story (30 or so years ago) it has remained extremely consistent in the numerous times that he has since retold it.

My Dad was in Cincinnati for a business trip and rain into Deion in the elevator when he and his colleagues were heading out to dinner. They knew who Deion was (this is when he was still playing football and baseball) but didn't make a big deal about being in the elevator with him and just continued to discuss their dinner plans. At a certain point, Prime jumped in and asked if he could tag along because they were going to one of his favorite places.

Now, they all thought it was odd that Deion would want to hang out with a bunch of mid-level AT&T managers. My Dad even asked if he didn't have a team function or anything he needed to be at. But, Deion said no and so they all went out to dinner. At the end of the meal, Deion put down his credit card and told them not to worry about anything. Then he asked if they were going back to the hotel or going anywhere else. They said they were going out for drinks and Deion came along again and paid for it all. At some point, my Dad made a comment about all of Deion's jewelry and if it wasn't kind of annoying to wear. Deion laughed and pointed to his diamond necklace and said, "Signing bonus - they can't take taxes on this like they would have if I just took the money."

The next morning, they were in the elevator heading down to breakfast and who enters - you know it, Coach Prime. Deion asked what they were doing for breakfast and when they said that they were just eating at the hotel he told them to forget it - come with me, I know a place. Once again, he picked up the tab.

Now, my first question as a 10 year old when my Dad got back and told us the story was to ask why he didn't get Deion's autograph for us. My Dad laughed and said, "The guy was paying for my dinner, my drinks and my breakfast. I didn't want to impose on him by asking for an autograph on top of it."

Since that time, I've always been a Deion fan. And, I really want to believe that the story is true.
