Coach Holtz will always bring back to me that magical time for College Football and Notre Dame.

Notre Dame's undefeated 1988 season was the year I graduated college and before that, I will always remember what he did in that AR / OK Orange Bowl game where he benched a number of starting players on principle and the Razorbacks still ended up upsetting the Sooners.

I'll always hold the image of him on his players' shoulders after '88 NC game and of him pacing up and down the sidelines.

One of a kind coach and human being. R.I.P. Coach Holtz 🍀🍀🍀

Bringing back the old avatar in honor of coach. He was a class act, took time out of his busy schedule to meet our family in Hawaii back in '91 before a game. Gramps still has the photo hanging in his office. More than a coach he was a leader, a motivator, and quite the character. I've loved his words of wisdom over the years. RIP, coach!

Even if he did everything else but had not coached Notre Dame, we would still have a small discussion about him. Careers in coaching, broadcasting, and motivational speaking. Six losing teams transformed into bowl teams by the 2nd year, in an era where that meant it was a good team.

RIP, Coach. Of many over the years, perhaps my favorite quote of his (re: names on jerseys):

“At Notre Dame, we believed the interlocking ND was all the identification you needed. Whenever anyone complained, I told them they were lucky we allowed numbers on the uniforms.”

For the first time in over 100 years Notre Dame does not have a living coach that won a title.

Truly one of one and one of the greatest leaders of men to ever walk the face of the earth.

Time to change my avatar in honor of Lou. I was 10 years old when Lou came to ND, 20 years old when he left. He was the ND coach for the bulk of my formative years, and he knocked it out of the park.

As time went on, I grew to appreciate him all the more for who he was as a man, not just a coach.

Thanks for all the memories, Lou, and for being the kind of man so many others and I could look up to. Well done, good and faithful servant, may you now rest in the presence of the Lord without end.

Kind of a nice thing, the r/cfb subteddit changed the banner for Lou so that it shows all the teams he coached instead of the usual top ten.

Was fortunate enough to see him speak at my Alma mater a few years back before health issues prevented him from his speaking tour. A ton of former Razorbacks joined him on stage to pay tribute to him. Darius Walker’s dad Jimmy was one of them IIRC. He was sharper than ever.

I bet they put LOU above the face mask in honor of Holtz the same way they did ARA after Coach Parseghian’s passing awhile back.
