I'm getting really sick of Goodell. He runs the league like its own Madden Fantasy League.

Quit messing with the fundamentals of the game. Sheesh.

Yeah, I get that people aren't excited about extra points but I don't see what you really gain by eliminating them altogether.

He has been terrible for the game, and yet we as fans keep watching, and the players keep playing. That is the problem. We as fans have no say as to what is done with the league. Players have some say, but still they cannot control changes like that. I can't wait to see Goodell leave. It can't come soon enough.

Agreed. The only thing I would be in favor of for EPs and FGs would potentially be narrowing the goal posts a bit. I feel like guys nowadays are automatic from 50 yards.

Require 2pt conversions, no PATs. Make TD plays over 50 yards worth double the points too. How about 2 points per sack? Let's get these scores up in NBA territory!

Don't forget to take away points for fumbles lost and interceptions thrown. Give points for yardage gained.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And this part of the game ain't broke.

yet another reason to never watch the NFL. I despise the league and all it stands for.

Weekly specials! This week rushing TDs for 10 points and 4 point FGs! BOGO yardage for convicted felons!

What a stupid argument. "It's practically automatic, so let's eliminate it."

You know what else is practically automatic? The Center-QB exchange. Something like 0.01% of snaps are botched so let's just have the quarterback start with the ball.

Why not do what rugby do and take the.EP from in line where the ball broke the goal line. Try converting from way out wide, then it is not automatic.

Because then we'd have to deal with 20 intentional delays of game and/or intentional false starts as the offense tries to move backwards on purpose to reduce the severity of the angle. Plus, rugby is dumb.

Let the defense decline the penalty and if the offense does it twice they lose their attempt at an EP.

Also rugby is actually pretty awesome. Some great hits.

Getting rid of the extra point would be wrong in my opinion.

I will say from a strictly saber metric perspective teams should be going for 2 more often. The conversion rate of 2 point conversions is over 50 percent. If you try 100 two point conversions and convert at least 51 of them it adds to more points than if you make 100 percent of your 1 point PATs. Not saying it is wise to do that but the numbers say go for 2.

I don't think it's a terrible idea considering every score is based on 3. 3 points for FG's 6 points for TD's and an extra point that means nothing. This would create more OT games imo. If they do this they need to definitely narrow the goal posts. That being said I think rewarding the team that scores a TD with an extra point is the right thing to do because it is so difficult to score. Why give a team a chance to tie a game when a team scores a TD and then the other kicks 2 FG's to tie? Especially when kickers can make from 50+ with ease and seem to be breaking records every year. I can see both sides of the argument but I think it should just stay the same.

Care to explain how a sack is based on 3?

That's exactly the point and is crucial to the balance of play in a football game. The game was designed so that a touchdown with an extra point is greater than two field goals. Removing the extra point makes a touchdown equal to two field goals, which is contrary to the very philosophy of the game.

You may have touched on something, though. Imagine how many tied games there would be at the end of regulation if scores were worth 3 and 6 instead of 3 and 7. I bet Goodell sees dollar signs at all of the potential overtime ad revenue.

Extra points are a waste of time. It slows down the already slow game.

Oh come on they aren't a waste of time. The waste of time is the amount of TV timeouts. Team scores a touchdown, commercial. Team kicks extra point, commercial. Team kicks off, commercial. Team punts, commercial. That is the problem. There is no flow or rhythm to the game anymore. The NCG had 62 minutes of advertising...... The game is only 60 minutes. There is the time wasting.

Over the last two years or so I have become a huge soccer fan. One of the best things about soccer is there is no stoppage for commercials. They are 90 minute games that are over in 105 minutes thanks to halftime. They go so much quicker than an hour game that takes 3 hours to complete thanks to advertisements.

Also, there have been a few injuries on XPs in the last few years. Gronk got hurt on one, and I think a Broncos O-lineman got hurt on one as well.

It's fucking football... not table tennis. Jesus. I'm so tired of the let's change it because people get hurt. I know I started playing football at a young age so I COULD hit people... legally. Goodness. The pussification of America.

This. Plus why have Gronk on XP team anyway? It seems like the dude is made of glass to begin with, and let's put him on the field for an XP? Put the 3rd string TE or a LB on the field for that. It truly is ridiculous that because people get hurt, lets change rules. It also isn't like guys are getting hurt more frequently. It's the fact that owners, and the NFL are afraid of their star players will get hurt which could drive down attendance and merchandise sales.

This is exactly what makes overtime hockey awesome, and overtime basketball the biggest chore to get through. And I'm not a hockey fan.

Overtime hockey is only great during the playoffs. Shootouts after only 5 minutes are a complete joke. Granted I am biased as the Blackhawks in recent years have a good track record in playoff OTs but suck in regular season shootouts.

Personally I think the that instead of OT ending on a TD they should still allow the other team to get one possession like do now if the team receiving the kickoff gets a FG but then the team that didn't score must go for 2 but if the team receiving the kickoff scores they can still end it by going for 2 after an opening drive score. I think it would add more decision making to the NFL OT.

What's wrong with slow? This isn't baseball. There are 16 games, every one is an event. A game is 3 1/2 hours give or take. Extra point is going to shave off what? A minute-thirty? It's change for the sake of change.
