This is a substandard Notre Dame offense. The QB looks like a JAG, there is no receiving corp to speak of, the best TE cannot catch, the backs are talented but their effectiveness is limited because the OL, which is supposed to be the strength of the team, appears to be good enough to run over bad defenses but not good enough to stand up to the athletes on good defenses.

I think our defense is actually much better than I expected, but the offense is so much less potent than what I'm accustomed to that I think the ceiling for this team is not very high. It's not a bad team - I don't see 4-8 in the future. But 9-3 would be maxing out the potential. That's too bad, because it means we will waste a potentially really good defense.

It's frustrating. It's annoying. It's infuriating.

BUT

It's a good wake up call for the Pollyannas. We couldn't beat probably the 4th best team in the SEC at home, so tonight was a good wake up call to keep perspective in check, and understand 8-9 wins is the permanent ceiling.

There's no way in hell we finish 9-3 unless something drastic happens with the QB and play calling.

the backup looked more complete in the blue gold game. BK is so hard headed, he wont make any changes. Just like how he defended vangorder before he was fired.

I simply cannot fathom that Dexter Williams and CJ Sanders, from what I could see, combined for ZERO offensive snaps tonight

Zero.

How can they possibly not be worth reps? These 5th year guys aren't scaring anyone and Josh is total feast or famine.

Why is "he's two games in" always the excuse with us? Alabama has been a top ten team for a decade and they've had six or seven quarterback in that time. If you're going to be a top program, you don't get to cry about a young quarterback and then pray it all comes together every third year in the guy's senior season.

Wimbush threw the ball 39 times, more than Jaylon Hurts has ever in his career. Kelly loves to put too much on the QB. It's obvious that the strength of this offense should be power football with our RBs, instead we chuck around to guys who aren't very good. Same ole same ole.

What would this game have been like had Kizer stayed this year?

Are you surprised the decision making of personnel or play calling under a Brian Kelly coached team is subpar?

My 2 cents. Move McGlinchey back to right tackle (since the 2 there aren't getting the job done yet), and give Eichenberg a chance to see if he can hold up against speed rushers.

We were the lesser team and could/should have won.

Defense is to thank.

Don't have the weapons on offense to take pressure off wimbush and oline.

Play calling was terrible.

We lost the game when we had 3 straight runs up the middle after we got the ball back at 8 min up 2. Didn't even use the full play clock on that second down. Something you def. do if the plan is to run 3 times and punt. If we even get 1 first down that possession it's at minimum another 2 mins off the clock and a deeper more accurate punt.

Just completely shit the bed and played to not lose.

Julian Love did get lucky on some long ones.

Completely agree about the shit play calling. Another sticking point was getting the turnover with a minute something to go in the end of the first half. Only to throw a middle screen...and run it up the middle twice and punt.

That should be prime time to take a freaking shot. Was Buddy Ryan calling the offensive plays?

Did you see the OL blocking tonight? Hardly looked like a strength.

I'm at a loss for words the offensive play calling was so atrocious. I've honestly never seen anything that bad and i've suffered through watching the Browns since 99. The sheer stupidity or hubris of refusing to stop calling the slow moving QB keepers is staggering. We get the ball back up 2 with 8 minutes left and we decide to run the ball straight up the middle 3 times when it hasn't worked the entire game.

I would fire everyone if I was Swarbrick.

Need people going forward to get called out for praising Heistand. I don't care how he recruits. We can never ever run the balll against a top defense and this has been a reoccurring theme for years now. We are soft up front and have been for years. We will never be a top team until we figure that out. Maybe it is still the scheme's fault and not his but we need to figure it out soon.

Well, when you throw it all over the field (to shitty WR's & TEs) the OL is still quite involved. I just hate our running scheme for our personnel. Big OL, one cut backs, power football. That's the type of players ND traditionally gets and the only way for us to be successful. If you want to keep having our 6'7" Left tackle try to keep up with speed rushers, be my guest. It's worked out great in 8 years.

can we talk about the 5 second hand offs, why can we not have a rb running down hill instead of these fakes that take so long they have enough time to smoke both the qb and the rb

Those plays are so slow to develop that I can't imagine them ever being successful against a decent defense. It's not just bad play calling, they're bad PLAYS, period.

Why don't we give Dex a shot to change the pace of the game
When it stalls? Also 3 run plays at 8 min mark left in 4th after a big defensive stop and punting the ball 50 seconds later was awful. Foot on gas at that point.

Grumble grumble grumble.

I was impressed with the defense tonight though. They bottled up a very good running game. Have come a long way from last year.

Offense played like ass. Wimbush ran it too much and we didn't stretch things downfield. Georgia was too fast for our screens and seams approach, and we couldn't come up with anything else. Disappointing.

That said, the game turned on Okwara's late hit, which was a pretty borderline penalty to be so consequential. If they don't call that, Georgia punts instead of scoring a touchdown, and probably we win.

Thank God Eason got hurt. Their freshman QB was not very good and kept the game close. Thought our D played very good.
if i remember right georgia was looking bad with him and didnt get the ball moving well until fromm got in.

THIS WAS THE REAL TRAGIC ISSUE TONIGHT AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT. These guys played their ^%%$# off tonight in front of a home game for Ga. Sheer ^%$$#$@!.

Sucks to lose but this was never going to be easy. That is a well coached defense with stud athletes.
- McGlinchey letting guys get to his body and not using his length at all
- Not thrilled with Wimbush but it's his second start. He wasn't rattled, just made some bad reads. He will learn
- Defense played great. Some missed tackles, but they have some stud backs. Kept them pretty well contained
- Thought most of the penalties were legit. Not going to complain about refs. Thought the roughing call was a bad call but can't do anything about it
- Not sure why some guys aren't getting reps. Too much horizontal stuff againsta speedy defense
- I'm not giving up, I think we're a pretty tough team. 2 new coordinators and completely new schemes. I think we're going to get a lot better
