Chase Claypool made a few ST tackles. He looked good. I hope he gets a shot at WR, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got a look rushing the passer next year. Great tackler and a legit 6'5 220-225

Maybe he should get a shot at safety.

But honestly, if you're talking about #40, that's being really picky. I don't see a flag there

I was ready to be up in arms. But, unless I'm missing something, that seems pretty okay to me.. I was expecting to see someone jumping on a back and leaping off.

So they illegally block a FG right in front of the back judge with no call, they have a targeting non-call in the endzone that would have given us 1st and goal at the 2 and the replay on the reception shows Hunter came down with both feet on the ground prior to the targeting hit which could very well have been called a TD. Very pitiful on the refs part.

They completely blew the Hunter call. But every FG in the game has something like that play. Can't bring myself to get angry at that one.

Well, looks like refs come out rusty at the start of the season too. Between that and the no-call on the targeting it wasn't a great night for the ACC. Pretty sure they missed a blatant block in the back on Swoopes' first TD run too.

Their OL was holding like CRAZY. Especially on the edge. I don't like complaining about refs....we lost cause we can't get off blocks, cover deep or tackle consistently and cause our starting FS likes carrying a gun around with him

The LB's were extremely poor. I read through this entire thread and only saw a few posts say anything about how crappy the LB's played. The DL did a great job of maintaining the LOS and our LB's were lucky to make contact (since they clearly can't tackle) 2-3 yrs downfield all game. I don't know if this is a scheme issue or what but I'd like to think that Morgan/Coney/James O are clearly athletic but last night their reads were a good 1-2 seconds late the entire night. When Swoopes came in the game, how in the world could we not stop him at least a few times. Everybody in the stadium and watching on TV knew exactly what play they were going to run...

The push our OL had was great all night. Malik Jefferson will be an All-Pro if he keeps his shit together.

Kizer was amazing!

Secondary looked lost on every single deep ball. How in the world do we get burned that many times in cover 3?

Sucks to lose but Texas played a great game and had a great plan. I don't know if they will be a great team this year, but they played great last night. I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see that FR QB look like complete ass the rest of the year. For whatever reason, ND Opponents tend to look like All-Pro's when they play ND and chumps the following week/s.

Ill still root for these boys week in and week out but it surely was a bummer to lose, especially putting up 40+ points...

Here is the problem with your linebacker statement. Coney only saw playing time in the goal line package. You do know Martini took all the reps at WILL yesterday.

You statement about Swoopes is so true. I just remember last year how the defense made him look silly and tackled him well. The play where he is running in the open field and Jaylon just lays him out keeps repeating in my head. Oh those were the days...

I did, I meant to include Martini in the original statement. Regardless, the LB's (All of them) played very poor. I know we had the luxury of watching Jaylon the past few years, and Manti before that, but I didn't expect to see that much of a drop off.

I was the one who questioned Schmidt playing over Morgan last year and its becoming more clear why. Nyles has the ability to make plays (he made a few last night) but his instinct was 1-2 seconds slow all night. None of them scraped lanes at all. The DL actually did a REALLY GOOD job of maintaining LOS and eating up blockers and our LB's just couldn't get it done. I have to think there is an issue with scheme here because there were so many redundant gap controls last night. IDK, it was just very frustrating to see.

I'm hoping that Morgan being 1-2 seconds slow diagnosing the play is more due to his lack of game reps. Hopefully after a few games under his belt he will react quicker and trust his instincts.

I thought James O played very good. Why BVG would put him on the line and go against 300 pounders is absurd , but he held his own when he wasn't blatantly being held.

Morgan needs to play a little faster, but the guy can hit. He'll be fine, maybe better than fine, once the game slows down for him. Onwualu is what he is. Overachieving oversized safety playing outside backer. He does some things well but he's not a difference-maker. Martini probably needs to play less and Coney more.

Is Coney healthy though?

My biggest take away is when swoops came into the game why didn't bvg load the box with the biggest guys we have? You damn well knew he wasn't throwing

I like JO, he brings a lot. A lot of the NFL is going with that safety type linebackers. Like Deonne Buchannon from Washington State Playing for the Cardinals. Use his cover abilities and speed to come off blitzs, I don't have any problem with him. I also like his passion.

I am more concerned on how we looked out coached by Strong, our defensive strategies were a failure. When they could have made adjustments to it, they didn't.

We are who we are, under Van Gorder we are not a good defensive team. Year in and year out we are not good. So, I still blame BK he can change it and refuses.

The problem is it's hard to sub players when the offense is getting to the line and snapping the ball at warp speed.

I remember the announcer saying they snapped the ball with 31 seconds still on the clock, incredible.

Very true, they were better prepared. We weren't ready. Just like the previous 2 games on defense. Fast, slow, subbing, no subbing our defense has issues.

You really have to wonder if the players overlooked Texas after the result last year. You know the players can say all the right things in interviews, but doesn't mean they believed what they said.

This is so true, I didn't really think of that in that way. After blasting them, I can see how they could do that.

They have been punched in the face, now lets see how they react.

Some positives from the game.

- I really like Sanders and ESB. Sanders is a game changer in the return game. Doesn't always have to score TD's to flip the field or get solid yardage on Punt returns. We'll be talking about him quite a bit this year.

- I like the offense as a whole. They're going to need to be good and I think they will be.

I would like to see a little more elusiveness from the running backs. But, Folson was coming off an ACL injury and Adams is a straight forward runner. Kizer is more elusive. :)

After reading what bk said about bVG I personally have lost a to of respect for bk. Never thought I would say that. But saying bVG is quite good at his job. I have lost respect for bk. So, I see where we are going. The last 3 games proves that.

I wouldn't go that far yet. What you see and what happens behind the curtains are two different things. BK is not going to come out and throw any coach under the bus in public.

I am disappointed in the "D" even with rookies in the backfield. We're letting guys get clean releases off the LOS and we're still playing press coverage to open the second half?

Each time 18 came in, you knew there was a 90% chances he's keeping the ball, yet I didn't see us try a run blitz once to try and slow him in OT. Disguise and bring a safety or CB off the edge. You could always count on Diaco for that when they got inside the ten.

Right side of the O-line needs some work.

Season isn't lost, but no room for error.

Because then they just audible into a pass. How are people not realizing this? You can't just put 11 DL and LBs in the box, simply because the guy hasn't thrown a pass yet. (For the record, Swoopes did attempt one pass)
