Offense

-Kizer is superman.
-Folston and Adams looked very solid and have their unique strengths.
-St Brown isnt Fuller yet but showed some good promise. Needs to step up under pressure.
-O-line was good but not even close to living up to their hype. Sloppy mistakes at key times.

Defense

-Actually played solid in the second half once Texas slowed down their offense.
-Zero pass rush, but we all knew that going in. Where was Hayes?
-Morgan and Onwalu played like studs. All over the place.
-D-line was at least supposed to be good against the run and wasn't for most of the game.
-Crawford played good once settled in and showed glimpses of playmaking ability.
-Rest of the secondary had a night to forget.
-Safety position should be renamed to Anxiety on our defense. Maybe Zaire can move to defense (only half kidding)? Can Onwalu move to Safety? Coney? Brent?
-I miss Diaco

Overall

-This team ain't done making noise yet.
-Should be able to make a run and I am not counting out a Kizer lead ND team against anyone.
-Good luck to the Longhorns the rest of the year. Strong looks like he finally has his team. Good for him. Their defense had a solid showing and that was a much improved team across the board.

Diaco wasn't going to improve this situation. He recruited less than BVG and he had 1 lucky year when he actually had top level talent that didn't get hurt. That wasn't the case prior to his departure.

Regardless, we need a DC that can 'cruit dadgummit!

Asked this in the Texas game thread but I think everyone left that thread.
Does anyone else feel the returned block kick actually hurt us? Had we not scored on it and just blocked it, we would have been down 2. Being down 2 we would have been more aggressive in the play calling instead of settling to play for a tie and OT. Could have won the game with a FG or TD instead. No guarantee we score but I believe we would have had a better shot at winning than playing it safe and going to OT.

When can we hire a coach who was canned from a top tier program like a muschamp or a Eddie O, Greg matti son or anyone even if one season. A proven defensive guru . Maybe les miles available next year

I'm sorry but I totally disagree. When he kept putting Zaire in, it really took the offense out of sync. Kizer was the better qb from the start and Zaire didn't have anything to offer. I love Zaire, but Kizer was the clear #1 from the start.

We didn't score enough to win the game. Yes, the defense was deplorable, but Kelly's reluctance to commit to one QB put the team in too much of a hole. You never know, if Kizer is in there for another possession or two, we might get another score. At the very least, he could have kept our defense off the field a little more.

Absolutely not true. 35+ points should be enough offense to win a game. This loss is squarely on the defense. You can't win championships with what we did on that side of the ball tonight. I don't think this is the last we see of Zaire though. Clearly Kizer will be the #1, but this game was better suited for Kizer and the WRs to do damage. Our running game got stuffed quite a bit tonight, and as a result it favored Kizer to get the offense going. Going forward we need to run the ball better, because outside of Folston's big run and Kizer's designed running plays, we were getting very little.

IMO Burt was Texas's biggest WR threat.

Certainly, he did the most damage. Heard and Oliver made a couple big plays, but we didn't respect Burt and I don't know why. On one of his big TDs we were playing tight coverage and didn't even bother to try and jar him at the line. Did we really think we could keep up with his speed in that scenario? Burt did a lot less when we gave him a little cushion and forced him to try and catch short passes.

Anybody here think we should of went for 2 in the first OT? That was my gut feeling. Not sure I would have made that call wearing the headset. I did not feel we could stop them and I felt the Offense was our only chance. I kow that could be a huge blow to the D going forward but thought it was our best chance.

I give Kelly props in the post game press conference.

He said something like: The coaches need to coach better, starting with me.

Underline message. BVG step up your game!

I don't know if this is possible. Haha. Has BVG been responsible for any one recruit since he's been here?

Others can probably refute or support this better than I but Diaco was actually a pretty amazing recruiter but just decided he shouldn't have to his last year in the program for some reason. I mean he did get the triplet of Ishaq and Lynch and Tuitt his first year here.

Hellz Yeah

Hellz Yeah

I don't understand the play calling after the score was tied at 37. Draw play on 3rd and 12, with Kizer playing as well as he was at that time. Should have stepped on them and they let them up. Plenty of time to move down the field, score and avoid OT altogether.

This was my exact thoughts . WTF was with that play calling.

Also during press conference Kelly was pissed and didn't understand why the targeting call was not reviewed.

I want to hear the lame excuse the Big12 refs have.

No props. BVG is still employed. It's unacceptable.

Does anyone have a link to the post-game presser? I looked for a live feed and found nothing. I'd really like to listen. Thanks.

Diaco was a mess who got really lucky one year. We lucked out "losing" him. Really thought BVG's aggressive style was what we needed. Still do, but something is definitely wrong, however. Kelly is the man and can offensively get us out of almost any situation, & almost did, but you do have to stop opponents "sometimes". 47 Pts. put up & we lose. WTF!!!!!!!!! BK has to look at this and say "Come the FU( l< on man. And then make a decision cause the $hit ain't working.

Talk dirty to me.

Can you imagine this offense with a Les Miles defense?? Super unrealistic but man that would be a thing of beauty.

Basically the defense is so ghastly that the offense has to constantly take huge risks in order for us to win. This should not be, but it be...

Looking at Texas schedule, no reason they can't go 9-3 or better. They'll be a top 20 team at seasons end, no question.

Jeebus... We're still talking about making noise?? This fan base needs to get it through their heads... We just gave up fifty plus to an unranked team... Jeebus. You'd think we'd collectively wake dafaq up at some point....

Lol

I'm all about the noise.

I wanna see Kizer break records. Even if this team can't harmonize or even keep a beat, I wanna see our best player, the best player in the country, hit as many saxophone solos as possible from now until November.

We are gonna need style points now. Kizer needs to lay some of that hard-cuttin' mess on thick and send as many smooth sailing dimes to make this season a fun one.

Let's go Irish! I will not be deterred.

There will be some personnel changes on defense moving forward.

I expect Sebastian to play if healthy.

But look for Drew to only play on sub packages and for Studstill to start. Expect a lot of Eliot also.

Don't expect to see much Nick Coleman going forward. That is Nick Watkins job when he returns. In the mean time Crawford will stay outside and Love will play in the nickel.

Expect to see Cage and Jones both starting and Tillery to come in the game in a reserve role.

He to me is the only high profile coach id love to see as our d coordinator role
If nothing more to shove it to the Wolverines . Find me the Sanford equivalent for defense. Sexy pick for a coach who is young who can recruit and just gets it.

Miles would not be pleased being a DC when he has a National Title on his resume and has actually beaten Saban more than once, whereas Kelly has neither. The tension would be unbearable.

Kizer is clearly the man at QB going forward, but damn they really didn't do Zaire any favors with the playcalling on his drives.

Kizer clearly has better results, even in the first half. He should have made the decision to stick with him sooner.

However, the playcalling when Zaire was in made no sense.

Being his seat is smoking hot already, you think we can get him by Saturday?

Maybe the pressure would force Kelly to get us over the top.
