Rees also never seems to take plays off like some of our more talented players. I'll give him that. He certainly tries. And he even has glimpses of a good QB. Unfortunately, he's average. ND fans aren't going to be happy with average. And Rees is in a tough spot of getting an opportunity to dream of and receiving hate for his limited ability.

Let me check with Kuehnja.

I will give Diaco huge credit for making 2nd half adjustments.

Carlo/Fox played better than the MLBs in the 1st half, and he started running 'stunts' with the DL, which generated inside pressure. Rather than the DEs running themselves out of the play, they bull rushed inside and look what it did.

Kuehnja is very happy with Diaco, especially because he showed that he can make in game adjustments which has not been his strength.

Both our lines played great games tonight. We protected Rees against aggressive pressure, and blew running holes. We brought lots of pressure without blitzing and generally stuffed their run and contained on the edge. I'll take it, any time.

I think the O line played well, for most of the night, but.........

If you have the game DVRed, or you can find a replay somewhere; go back and look at the first couple of ND drives. Most of the successful runs were the product of great individual effort on the part of the RB. However, after the first couple of series, they made whatever adjustments they needed to, and settled into playing a very good rest of the game.

He's the best we've got. He's doing the best he can. He isn't great but isn't horrible. Its best people just shut the **** up and deal with it, the season is half over. He won't be here to bitch about next year.

It's not a big deal. I sometimes can't do it for various reasons. I started the first "Post Game Observations" thread, back in 2007, although it was actually titled "Thoughts on the BC game". I usually am a little behind, because I try to wait until they post the post game stats on und.com. That way, I can go through and take the strictly emotional observations out.

Unlike our Tom Hammond posters in the game day thread.

Tonight was a grand win!

I have no idea how you can make this claim.

The offense put up 30 against a top 25 team that many people predicted we'd lose to (including the entire TV crew).

Tommy threw 3 TDs...and, yes, a terrible INT. Just awful. But, as you'll notice, their QB did the same.

We're a good team.

Many predicted us to lose?
How about EVERYBODY picked ASU to win and some those people picked ASU to win big.

Im just happy we won. Overall very improved effort by everybody on the team. If this team would have showed up last week OU would have lost.

Go IRISH!

Don't you dare bash Natty. Natty kegs were my college experience, and it was phenomenal.

I mean its free beer water. It's better than nothing and Keystone. I'll never actually buy it or only drink it to get drunk.

LOL, I've never heard of a QB taking a play off

How else are we supposed to entertain ourselves through a game then?

We have won the second half 5 times this year and tied once.

We beat Navy by 40 last year. Turn the damn page.

When was the last time we lost the second half of a close game? Good third quarters have been a trademark in recent years.

You've never seen one mentally check out of a game? Just go through the motions? The most telling plays are when the QB gives a weak a.ss handoff that causes a fumble.

Exactly.

But the reality doesn't fit kuenja's narrative. So it must be crushed or ignored.

Diaco's strength has not been in game adjustments.

We've also given up more defensive points or the same in the 2nd half of 3/6 games this year. The stat you brought up is irrelevant to your point.

Diaco has been very vanilla at times and hasn't made great in-game adjustments at his time at ND.

I pointed that he did a great job of adjusting at half-time this game. I think you're dead wrong if you think he makes great in game adjustments, but let's agree to disagree.

Defensive line was much much better tonight obviously.

Our safeties are just pathetic.

Tommy was just, well, Tommy. You aren't really going to get anything different from him.

I am ready for Corey and Will to get more routes. Chris Brown has been very disappointing this year and Davaris just loses interest on a lot of plays.

Yep, especially the bolded. Chris Brown and Davaris just have not looked consistently sharp. Both show flashes, especially Davaris, but they also lapse inexplicably.

lol

I don't understand why it was frustrating.

South Carolina barely beat unranked Kentucky.
Oklahoma had a rough time with unranked TCU.
Oklahoma State just about lost to unranked Kansas State.
It took Georgia overtime to beat unranked Tennessee.
UCLA had big trouble with unranked Utah.

But unranked Notre Dame beating #22 Arizona State (the 6.5 point favorite) is frustrating?

I just love the activity of this board when we win. It's so much calmer.

We beat a ranked team tonight who was supposed to beat us by a touchdown and held one of the most prolific offenses in the country to a reasonable output. Where are the Diaco haters? Where are the Longo haters (we won the 2nd half again, by the way)? It's baffling!

This and this. Good win over a good team tonight. Was it perfect? No. But as is usual for this season I just see way too much unwarranted negativity. There was a lot of good stuff to build on tonight heading into the bye week.

The defense getting better is a credit to coaching and Diaco. Plus, Tommy moved in the pocket better tonight. Negative, way too inaccurate. Below 50% is terrible and especially two weeks in a row. Offense looks better when we play fast and tommy doesnt do his checks. Disappointed in GAIII and impressed with Cam. TJ is an all around great receiver and Daniels isn't there yet. Ishaq needs to be on the field more and so does Kona. Niklas needs more work. Playcalling is still tough to understand at times. Happy for Fox, he's had a tough year and that may give him some confidence. This was a good win going into bye week. I'd be willing to bet that it was also a very positive experience for recruits which should pay dividends down the road.

The defense argument is tired. How many times has the offense put the defense in a bind? They aren't last year, but they aren't weis years either. Be happy with progress.

-I love Rees but I can't wait to see him graduate.

-I'm ready for Cam to become the full time RB. Throw Amir in the slot and give him and GA about 3-5 carries a game.

-Best d-line and linebacker play all year.

-Take away that shank FG, and Brindza literally played a perfect game.

-Playcalling is still so questionable. The empty-backfield sets are maddening.

-Awesome win. We're staring 9-2 right in the face as long as we don't blow it against SC. We need to beat them at home finally.
