BIG WIN in the cold and rain.

Turnovers, muffed kicks, tough defense, and gritty offense.

Game Ball BVG.

ND 370 yds T.O.
SU 221

For the first time in years I was confident that ND would score on their last drive then shutdown the other team on their last drive.

Arm strength won the game. Very few QB's make that throw in time.

I was tempted to give the Game Ball to whoever handed Hunter Smith a pair of gloves. but then thought why wasn't he wearing gloves sooner?

Tough stats for Brindza, 1-3, when he had no chance on two of them in the rain and cold.

Sloppy game, but we got it done. Golson came up great and carried the team when ND really needed him.

Gotta force us NC for next week. I really hope that is not a trap game. We had a similar trap game like Purdue in 2012 season or something like that.

I live abroad and missed the whole game ;-(. Summaries (even brief) are appreciated!

Sloppy game due to the weather.

Defense was amazing. BVG is awesome.

Golson didn't have his best game but he stepped up on that last drive and put the team on his back. What a clutch throw to Koyack.

Hopefully we hear some good news this week in regards to the Frozen 5 but I'm not getting my hopes up.

5-0 baby

Go Irish beat Tar Heels!

The whole team carried the team. We did just enough offensively, defensively and on special teams to get out with a win.

Hell of a game, sloppy, lots of teaching but it feels good to know we played our 2nd worst game of the year and beat Stanford (with some players having the flu).

O-line needs to get it together. Center was blown up at least half a dozen times . I know Stanford is great up front but conditions like these are exactly why we need a run game.

I was sure this was a loss until about two minutes after Koyak saved the day. State of shock. Need a drink!

A few offhand thoughts:

1. Golson played hot and cold, obviously. He was late on almost every throw that wasn't perfect, if you know what I mean.

2. There were too many dropped passes, even considering the weather.

3. OLine recovered enough to be decent against a very mature, very good defensive line, though Anderson was a beast.

4. Can't say enough about the defense and Van Gorder. Absolutely excellent. One Stanford TD was a gift (after the TO), the other, well, that was a good Stanford drive. But if the missed sack hadn't been missed, I doubt Stanford even scores the second TD.

5. Again, about the defense: as young as they are, and as mature as Stanford was, I kept waiting for our guys to wear down and get pushed around. It never happened. Great credit to our guys.

6. Stanford can cry, but ND outplayed Stanford, I thought, pretty roundly. Two missed holds, a gift TD and a blown Red Zone opp, against a great defense and an experienced team, and the Irish won. And it wasn't about the rain, or at least, it didn't help us more than Stanford; the Indian are not some great offensive juggernaut that was slowed by bad weather. I think this was a great win.

1. Golson looked pretty bad tonight. Hopefully, this was his one bad game for the year. He was late on a bunch of throws; most noticeably was the pass to Will Fuller in the end zone, where the Stanford safety got over and blew the play up. He was also late on the winning TD to Koyack, but obviously got away with it. He had yet another 2 TO game. He's starting to look like Tommy, in that respect. He also looked unsure about whether or not to take off running, off of his scrambles. That's probably a function of the coaching staff trying to keep him thinking pass-first, though.

2. I'm pretty sure, now, that this defense is for real. I don't think it is dominant, but it is damned good.

3. Stanford's offensive line was handling most of our blitzes very well. We did through often enough to keep them out of any rhythm, but they picked us up as often as they didn't. I'm not sure if that is because their line is that good, or if we just aren't disguising pressures very well.

4. Jaylon Smith is already an outstanding football player, and might end up a phenomenal football player, before he leaves South Bend.

5. This is starting to have the feel of 2012; a couple of unimpressive wins against teams that we should have blown out in the 1st quarter, a close game against a really good team, and while we think we are really good, no one is really sure. It's like you are waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Game ball goes to the entire defense. They kept picking up the offense, even when they could have quit. One of the touchdowns they gave up was on a 12 yard drive.

Brian Kelly called a horrible football game.
Our offensive line will not work without Hanratty in the game. He is one of the toughest guys on the team.
If Brian Kelly leaves this program, BVG gets hired immediately. I have such a man crush on him.
Finally, David Shaw is such a swollen vagina. I'm so thrilled we came out on top.
