Lol. If you don’t see, then shame on you.
Shame on me then lol. Bigger tragedies in life.

His w/l record does. His ability to lose vs lesser talent relates.
I don’t want any comparison. A comparison of a coach who has 1 game under his belt vs a top 10 team, And a coach who had a 5 year body of work makes zero sense. A 2nd grader could see that.
Fair enough. What comparison/opinion would you like? I think Weis is appropriate given what we just watched
Hope I’m wrong. But this is clear, to me anyways.
These aren’t games that were used to loosing. But here we are, again
Let's draw a comparison when Freeman has been here for 5 years. Make sense? Because comparing 5 years vs 5 weeks is dog shit.
Brian Kelly wins this game
He did. I would be interested in seeing him at left guard. That side could be devastating.
GoldenToTheGrave already pointed out he's better served at Tackle, but Fisher was also the highest graded offensive player today along with Styles...and that's with missing the entire year after only playing a series against Florida State. The mayor is a phenom.
I know no one wants to hear this optimism. I truly think a close loss like this can springboard ND forward more than a blowout ISU type of win. The reason I say this is because I think Freeman is the kind of guy that's pissed off for greatness. He's going to be a man on fire for the next 9 months
If Kelly loses this game,he blames someone else then goes golfing tomorrow.
Freeman will close the talent gap and will find his stride in sideline management.
The future is bright.
Yes,I wanted to win. But in the playoff era with kids sitting out, I think there's something lost here.the game matters still, I think.
Yeah you probably let the Mayor play wherever he wants to play and then fill in from there.
Maybe this ends up being a net positive someday in that it motivates Freeman to bring in a defensive coordinator that he knows/trusts to call the game a. Different way. If ND skated by in a close game today, they may have gone the wrong direction with defensive coordinator and never corrected a core issue.
Some different support staff can go a long way.
The O-line, which was my main concern. Gave Coan a ton of time and the future looks super bright to me.
Absolutely, I was on Martha’s Vineyard.
game won. Not pretty but another W. Today we got beat, after dominating for a half.
Im not here to bag on Coach Freeman, at all. But today just can’t ever, ever happen. If you can’t agree with that, then fuck off
More of an observation about the defense for the season than just this game.
The secondary was never that good. LBs were good gap fillers but never that good in space. What did the defense have going for it? A good d-line.
The d-line hid a lot of problems. However FSU, VT, Toledo, NC, OkSt the defense had problems. Why? It's not like OkSt had better offense than Cinci (only scored 14 points really against the defense) or even Purdue. Because they had mobile QB.
Against mobile QBs you have to really be disciplined how you rush the QB unless you have a LB that just run down and get that QB every time he takes off. Well being extra disciplined slows your pass rush down, it just does. It leads to our secondary which I would argue was never good getting exposed having to cover longer.
Also even if you spy. You are forced to play a lot of zone, or run man with 1 high safety, 4 man rush, 1 spy type of defense. It makes your coverages kind of predictable. If you dedicate a LB to spy it makes your coverage more presidictable.
So at the end of the day rather it's through recruiting or better player development ND needs better in the secondary or/and get faster LBs. OR find a way to still get pressure without giving up the scramble.
We can cry about not making adjustments. There's only so many coverages you can run. From what I saw ND played man they played ran different zone coverages, the secondary wasn't good enough. Maybe they could have played Ryan Barns (Bracy was already on the field in nickel a lot of the game).
Honestly maybe they should have cut the d-line lose (forget rush discipline just get back there) and made Spencer Sanders rush for 200 yards and just hope he ran out of gas or gets popped / gets hurt on a run.
But mobile QBs that we couldn't just cut lose on were any issue all season, even if it was a bad offense.
No, he doesn’t, unless what you’re implying is they the defense would’ve been better with a real DC.
Zero percent chance that Kelly allows Rees to put in that genius first half gameplan. Zero percent chance that a Kelly offense puts up 600 yards on a top defense. Kelly probably loses that game 31-14.
Zero percent chance Kelly makes zero adjustments at halftime and watches this happen. Has Kelly ever shit the bed this bad at ND or even anywhere?

Michigan 2011. Stanford 2015. Texas 2016. Duke 2016. Michigan 2019. Miami 2017. Northwestern 2014. Navy 2010. Tulsa 2010. South Florida 2011.
The two Michigan loses were as bad/worse than this.
This was bad and raises red flags for Freeman but Kelly had all kinds of mind numbingly bad loses over the years on a pretty consistent basis.
This is embarrassing for game #1 but I'm not gonna hang Freeman. I'm pretty sure it takes a year or two for a coach to make his mark.
Had Kelly coached today, I believe ND wins. But Freeman didn't get hired to win today. He got hired to win games the next decade. Further, if Hamilton played, we win this going away. That's no excuse though for letting Lewis get torched by their only weapon all day..
Idk why they didn't give Buchner a series... the offense completely broke in the second half. There was nothing to lose letting him play.
Hopefully today is a wakeup call for MFMF that A) we need better players in the secondary, and B) we need to do better at making adjustments.

At no point yesterday did he look pissed off.
Neither side of the ball made adjustments at halftime. That's unacceptable. OSU did and that's why the won. The defense total dogshit in the second half. The offense didn't help them at all. OSU tried to give the game back to ND by coughing up the ball twice at the end and the offense couldn't even get a first down either time. A few bright spots would be Styles, Mayer, Tyree, and Foskey. Alt and Fisher too. I'd love to say Coan was a bright spot but as great as he looked in the first half he looked equally as bad in the second. We need a DC and QB coach.
