Even after shitting the bed against OSU, we ended up ranked 6th overall, with the 11th ranked defense. Despite its flaws, this was a very good team.

Someone with an ESPN+ subscription needs to check out the ranking of our pass defense, but this is an exaggeration. Cincinnati and Purdue both had good passing attacks, and we didn't get burned by either. UNC started to threaten our DBs, but our front-7 was able to get home against Howell frequently enough to help cover for them. Virginia could have been ugly, but they couldn't do much without Armstrong. It was really only Okie State that exposed our defensive backfield, since we had no KHam and our DL couldn't get to Sanders.

Connelly doesn’t give away his stuff besides the end rankings anymore.

Purdue I can’t include since AOC got thrown in at the end. Their passing efficiencies are night and day from when we played versus now. Ridder certainly did pick on Lewis and Bertrand while Sanders picked on Lewis and Kiser so both losses the commonality was glaring holes in the pass defense.

Regardless, before the Bowls we were 29th in Pass Success and 12th in Pass Explosiveness. Now bad QBs, KH are both factors but by we weren’t a bad secondary overall, it was just always there has a potential weakness.

That sucks. Thanks ESPN! I've always preferred FEI anyway (Fremeau is an alumnus who works on campus), but SP+ had the benefit of breaking out defensive and offensive rankings against the run and the pass. Getting to see those again was one of the few things that tempted me to pay for ESPN+. Guess I don't need to worry about that then.

This is a great breakdown of our struggles on defense in the game. I really like the combo of Greg and Jamie breaking down film.

I may have missed it but how is no one mentioning how Clarence Lewis got eaten alive?

Good. He and whoever was the QB spy lost the game for us. We had 9 out of 11 players on defense doing their job.

It's been mentioned to death. Ultimately blame goes to Marcus Freeman / Mike Mickens to a large degree. Clarence gets beat 2-3 times that's on him. Clarence gets beat 5, 6, 7, 8 times that's on you. Got to try Ryan Barnes, got to switch Cam Hart to the boundary corner put Clarence at the field corner.

But it's on the coaches to do something besides hoping Clarence does better the next play. Maybe those things I suggested would have failed. I'm not at practice but I'm thinking the coaches probably had an educated idea they would fail. But I think you need to empty the clip at a certain point and try some personell change. Clarence is a good kid, who contrary to some of the comments wasn't lazy out there; mentally flustered / mental defeated yes but not lazy. At some point it's no longer on Clarence but on the staff.

That's why in hindsight I don't want to be too hard on Elston this game. He was calling plays but I'm pretty sure he didn't have control of making secondary substitutions, or swaps.

Ooh. Sick burn, bro.

Yes Notre Dame has been utterly destroyed.
Yeah, I don’t see a problem with the tweet but as far as “to destroy ND on Twitter” is a stretch. Especially after ND basketball pulled off a double OT upset win in the play-in game of the NCAA Tourney on St. Patrick’s Day
