anyone else watching lsu/bama? Sure wish we could have these types of defenses , or even offenses. I still dont understand why we constantly go from the shotgun /pistol and never go under center.

1. Can we please stop blaming anything on MZ? Im positive if any of you dreamed of going to the nfl, went to ND ,sat while golson played, finally got your shot and broke your leg, was told the position was yours, and when you come back you dont have a spot, youd be rather upset as well. The guy is majoring in film, television and theater, you think he came here for the degree?

2.I dont think adams is that great of an rb as everyone gives him credit for.

The last two QBs who worked with Whitfield have gone to shit, maybe it's him.

1) Don't disagree with Kelly's fg call in the 4th quarter. that was the smart move. Even if Navy had scored a touchdown it still would have been a 1-possession game, but the problem is our defense couldn't stop them so up 3 points or down 1 point didn't really matter.

2) The gaffe of the game was Kelly's decision to kick the fg in the first half.

3) Kizer, for having good stats yesterday, really didn't impress me. He missed a lot of big throws. The missed throw to Stepherson was huge

4) Where the heck were Rochell, Jones, and Tillery today. The key to beating Navy is getting penetration and our front four got man-handled by guys smaller, slower, and weighing 50 lbs less than them. Just unacceptable

5) Onwalu had some big plays.

6) Special Teams is a disaster with the exception of Yoon

7) To beat Navy, all you have to do is get up 2 scores. We had a chance to do that and then put 12 guys on the field.

I noticed this last week with the botched return/td. The middle row just let them run right past them. I mean not even a shoulder stick to slow them down. How can the coaches not see that???

I ALWAYS hate Navy week! I hate watching this game each year ... the endless cut blocks, Navy's methodical means of running the ball, the few possessions the Irish get, etc.

OK – I have read all 14 pages of this thread. It is easy to see that there is a vast amount of passion for ND football out there – and a whole lot of frustration at how things have gone this year (with a few exceptions). In my admittedly skewed view, ND is missing that one 235 or 250 lb back to help to relieve Josh Adams in the running game – Alabama had Eddie Lacy and Ohio Elliot (225 lbs.) to mention two great ones - so they are out there somewhere to be recruited. I have been saying this for years – run the ball. Those hard runs in the first half will pay dividends in the fourth quarter. No doubt that DK missed some open receivers and make some interesting throws – have never seen him throw so low or so high – some receivers needed a six foot step ladder to have a chance at a catch. Missing Stephanson (sp?) was as one Pres Candidate would say HUGE. I would not blame Malik if he took a midnight flit like Golson who is now playing for my beloved Hamilton Tiger Cats in the Cdn football league. I would have thought that almost every running play should be to the left side – let those possible NFL OLers either stand or fall on their playing merits. I would probably keep Kelly for one more year – I had read that there will be very few departures from this team due to graduation – another year of experience can’t be all that bad. Like all of you, the season started off with such anticipation and there was such a big OH OH after the Texas game which has turned into monkey slumps after that. GO IRISH – see you next season. But in many seasons he is unable to lineup and impose his will on the other team BY running the ball. To me that is the big difference. For 3rd and short we almost always go empty sets. A few things:

I can attest that BGIF is real. And good to spend time with.

I'm not so sure I can say the same of the 2016 "Fighting" Irish.

ND needs to find a way (stumble?) to grow a defensive "pair."

I am sorry that I hadn't the chance to get together with Kmoose and dad4aa.

I'm not dead yet so there's still a chance ..

And more opportunity to celebrate and/or piss and moan about Irish football.

When that happens, he has simplified the offense and relied on the running game more.

Agree to an extent. The thing about 2012 and even last year, is that we prepared in preseason to be more of a running team. I don't think the coaching staff was very confident in giving Golson the whole offense in 2012 so things were simplified. I think the "Malik" offense last year was also skewed more run heavy. These were also Kelly's best years. I don't think it was a coincidence. Obviously the 2012 defense led the way, also a "simple" defense.

Theses stats also include the last four games of the 2010 season where Rees came in and things were simplified. We were 4-5 and proceeded to go on a 4 game winning streak. Same for 2014 where we spent bowl prep establishing a more run dominant scheme for the LSU game.

I don't know the rule book but I saw several times on twitter particularly a person getting into with Vorel that there is a rule that says the replay official can review and rule on a play not called on the field and regardless if a flag was or was not thrown. BK says he was told on the field that no flag was thrown but the replay official was the one who instigated, reviewed and issued the penalty.

Well and also there is some evidence that opposing coaches are baiting ND into checking into desirable plays because they in fact know what ND will check into given a defensive formation that is shown to Kizer. Something similar happened in 2013 and 2014.

A head coaching change is not the solution. The players this year are simply playing like $hit. There is no leadership. Did Joe Maddon tell Jason Heyward to have a players only meeting during the rain delay of the World Series?

If Scott Booker is on the coaching staff next season I will be surprised.

I like what Greg Hudson has done with our defense, but I would look for a defense coordinator after the USC game. If Charlie Strong becomes available I'd consider him!

hope in one hand , crap in the other and see which ones fills up first. ND was a top 10 team according to professionals coming into game 1 and look where we are now. What makes you think anything will be different next year?

While there is said to be no fight their is also no quit. While this team has been relatively awful they have also been one score or break from winning every game. We have had zero breaks this year and no help fromm the refs.

Many players have been MIA most of the year and some highly touted expectations from some have only briefly materialized.

Had 1-2 games that got our hopes up and then back to underachieving.

Some hopes for next year:
Studstill learns to tacckle and hits the weigh room
Tranquil drops 5 pounds and continues to improve
Trumbetti rides the pine
Cage converts an additional 15 pounds to muscle
Coney plays like a LB and attacks
Morgan continues to improve and becomes an aggressive leader.
Hayes and Hayes start and make an impact. Play mean.
Love is a studd in the making. Just need to figure out who holds onto the other side.

I haven't said much about it yet but yes we need a new ST coach. Booker has had his chance. His guys are undisciplined, ignorant and poorly coached.

Have the number 6 ranked class right now. Hope BK can hold it together. Team needs a new identity. Physical, ball control, FB under center but I doubt Kelly being a pretty boy will go for that. Working for Harbaugh.

Several times yesterday the TE was wide open in the seam or just off in the flat. An easy pitch and catch 8-12 yards before he would have taken any contact. And DK never saw him. I know there isn't a Tyler E. type TE on the roster... by that I mean a really good pass catching TE, but dang it... throw the easy one to the TE and see what happens.
