Sure. And NDs non-recovery of 3 forced fumbles and 2 dropped interceptions led to NC State having some offensive production on the day.

And NDs 4-5 consecutive penalties to gift wrap the only non-garbage sustained drive NC State had that still required Howard Cross to be pulled down from behind on the TD throw allowed them to keep it close.

The "drops" didn't lead to shit. The Irish slowly strangled the life out of them until the pressure was too high and boom, the flood gates opened.

It never once felt like NC State was seriously challenging offensively.

Absolutely not. If he was running 21 mph that's basically running a mile in less than 3 minutes. The fastest mile by a professional runner is 4:28. I get that the mile runner probably isn't sprinting the entire 5280 feet, but I also don't buy that big boy Estime is going that fast. Usain Bolt runs just over 22 mph for reference.

27 mph, but not from a standing start. That's his top speed. From a standing start going 100m he hits 23.35 so I was actually off by 1. Humans typically top out at 23 mph in a full race.

Yeah, I think that makes sense then. If the average speed for the fastest humans from a standing start is capped at 23, and Bolt's top speed at a fixed point in a race is 27, then Estime at 20.9 for top speed works.

This is how I felt about the game. Which has made listening to II's post game podcast almost insufferable. Very ND Nation-ish.

I will say the OL play has me concerned. I get they were outnumbered a few times but the interior was blown up and that is going to cost us drives/points against big time opponents if the OL doesn't continue to develop. I'm expecting them to grow as a unit each week.

I also didn't think our WRs got great separation on their routes. The entire offense did great when things broke down but if we want to beat the best teams on the schedule, we need to give Hartman more time/make him comfortable and we need to continue seeing this offense evolve.

But we played like shit with lots of penalties and 5 missed TO opportunities and we still walked out of there with a 21 pt win. That's a great game to learn from.

I think these are the three key takeaways from the last game. This team will go as the interior OL goes judging by the first quarter of the schedule. I am beginning to suspect that MF and GP have not yet dug quite so deep into the playbook yet either. Not in terms of trickery and such, but in terms of dynamic plays and hopefully we see different looks for tOSU as well. I really like the way this schedule has been laid out this year. Work on some things this Saturday and then we start to really sharpen the sword.

It's Tuesday and I've pretty much moved on to CMU. I expect a big win and hope everyone stays healthy. Then it's onto Ohio State.

It seemed like our offensive game plan was to protect, hold the ball, and let plays develop, or throw a quick bubble screen to greathouse. I'd like to see some quick slants incorporated to counter teams blitzing so much.

When you bring 7 or 8, and the oline does hold up, you have huge play opportunities that you saw. Just like estimes run, they had 8 in the box, we schemed a perfect play and hit it, No one unblocked as second line of defense.

There are no perfect plans, only tradeoffs. If we add quick slants, we may neutralize early aggression but we put our QB in a position where he needs to be 100% certain of his read before he fires the ball off because a pick is going back the other way for 6.

I don't have particular play calls I want to see. I get nervous about throws at/behind the LOS, especially if the DBs are lining up within 5 yards. My biggest hope for Parker is that he shows incredible flexibility in taking what the defense gives and then slamming them with what we're best at when they start to alter their defensive plan. That's what great OCs do.

We're still not certain who is our alpha dog in the WR room but we are versatile with plenty of players who can score quickly. Estime, Love, Price, Greathouse, Tyree, Staes and maybe we'll get some more from Thomas, Merriweather, Flores and Raridon/Evans.

Lots of options to keep the defense honest but I'd like to see a few emerge as serious threats who are reliable.

Post Game Thoughts
1) Before play resumed McElroy said ND would have to make the most adjustments due to the delay- Estime takes it to the house for 80 yards on the first play
2) Great reporting by Molly McGrath from a viewership about the storms impacting the game
3) Happy with the 3 INT's, but Morrison should've had 2 (I didn't see the Christian Gray play)
4) Is ND saving for Tobias time? He plays is on the field, but I want to see more than 1 catch for 45 yards, the yards after the catch was impressive
5) Staes had a Mayer type day
6) It took time for Hartman to settle in, when he did he plays very confidently
7) Only Brady Quinn & Jeff Samardzija can do the short pass, take that out of the playbook
8) Harper made some nice pass break ups
9) Nice field goal by the kicker
10) Agree with all the posts about how Freeman coached this game- the team took the hostile out of the crowd

Yep, really shocked that Thomas isn't the alpha in the room. I thought he was ready to take off then a wrong read on a route and drop on the same drive about ended his day. We need him to step up

I know everyone talks about it's great to spread it around blah blah blah. I agree except when the going gets tough and the other team is playing good D. You need to be able to get your best in a 1-1 situation and go to them.

after re watching, i noticed mills gets doubled a lot more, when he's singled, his guy is going into the backfield. Cross hustles better and makes more plays, but he's mostly got 1-1 with the guard.

Mayer would have had more catches probably, but doesn't have the speed Staes has to score on the 40 yarder like staes did. Mayer could block better than Evans, run routes as good as i've seen, great hands, only thing missing was really his top end explosiveness.
