I love this move, personally. Its lack of subpoena power is a big reason why the NCAA often seems toothless. If they used this tactic more often during investigations-- offering immunity in exchange for testimony, like a prosecutor-- it would be much easier to hold dirty programs accountable.

And do you really believe that Shapiro is the only booster who gave goodies to the recruits and players during the last decade?

In "The U" documentary they straight up admit to committing NCAA violations and taking money for things like big plays. Let's be serious, Miami has always been dirty from Schellenberger until this very day... the only difference was someone with phone records, receipts and credit card bills getting caught in a situation where he snitched under oath and then had his accounts corroborated.

They will always be dirty unless they get extremely harsh penalties. I hope Miami burns. That is all.

To be fair, though... Myron Rolle was a Rhodes Scholar, so at least one (and probably only one) of their athletes committed himself to learning.

I remember watching something on Rolle (possibly an ESPN piece) about when he was on campus for his official visit they took him to see the classrooms before showing him the football facilities. Apparently that won him over and he decided on FSU. I thought it was interesting that something small like that ultimately decides where the player decides to go.

I know this Thread is about Miami, but with regard to the Myron Rolle talk: That kid is an exceptional person. Terrific athlete, highly intelligent, and motivated to reach his lofty goals. I hope he goes far in life.

Shaperio said he gave about $20 million to the "U", but these suspended players only received a few hundred each.
They apparently weren't very good at it. They should complain as I don't think they got their fair share.

“The public is going to hate me worse in the next coming months,” Shapiro, serving a 20-year sentence for a Ponzi scheme, wrote in numerous e-mails over the past few months. “It’s going to be severe and catastrophic. My feelings are getting inflamed and I’m going to pop off pretty soon with regards to them and the NCAA. I’m coming for them both [UM and former players] and I’m going to be successful.

“I’m taking that program down to Chinatown and the former players and links to that program. Why? Because the U.S. government lined up 47 former players to testify against me in open court if I went to trial. That in itself is motivation to shove it up their collective [butts].”

Miami spins it as all talk; no proof.

This is going to be like the Tim Donaghy saga in the NBA. Donaghy was telling the truth about certain outcomes being "encouraged", but it was all swept away as poppycock because he was a shady person with a shady past. Shapiro will get the same treatment, even though he is also being honest.
