That's not the issue. The issue is are they voting under others' names, showing up and claiming to be someone who IS a citizen or using mail-in ballots, and with no ID requirement, who would know? Do we know it's happening? We don't know that it is or isn't without using ID to determine that or catch those attempting to do so. If it's not a problem and isn't happening, why so much effort to avoid simply presenting an ID? Every other country in the world requires ID to vote. Why are Dems so adamantly against it in the US?

The point is that if you’re asking for people to have a specific form of ID to vote you’re going to hurt turnout.

This is simply nonsense. There are a lot of different ID's that are acceptable, and every single person who is registered to vote had to have at least one of them to register. You can't drive a car, buy a house, rent an apartment, cash a check, open a bank account, get a real taxpaying job, rent a motel room, buy alcohol or cigs, or do almost anything in normal life without an official government ID. There aren't 10 people in this country eligible to vote who don't have one or couldn't get one with ease.

Nobody is realistically making it harder for any qualified person to vote. Again, if they're qualified, a citizen, and registered, they have to already have a valid ID. Requiring proof of identification and that you're the person registered to vote isn't an unreasonable request. Every other country in the world requires it.

Now this the part where you tell me it’s not an inconvenience to go get an id. I repeat that it is for people that don’t have the luxury of taking off work on a whim and that don’t have cars, the whole reason they don’t have drivers licenses to begin with. And around and around we go.

How many people can't get an ID? If voting is important to you, you have to put at least a modicum of effort into meeting the requirements, such as getting an ID and registering. That's how it works even in the poorest of countries around the world. You can't tell me it's impossible here, then. How many don't actually have an ID? If they don't, how do they, as I mentioned above, cash a check, buy alcohol, rent or buy a home, receive any sort of government assistance, or do any normal day-to-day activities? You can't function in our society legally without a government issued ID. You have to have one to register to vote, so if they're registered, they have one. If they don't have one to register, they can't prove citizenship and shouldn't be allowed to register or vote. If they had one to register, they have one to show at the voting booth.

If they're qualified to vote and registered, they have one. You can't access your bank account without an ID. You can't go to the hospital and use your insurance without an ID. You can't get on a plane or ship, get a legit job, buy alcohol, rent a motel room, rent a car, attend college, buy a car, take out a loan, or a million other things without an ID. Every other country in the world requires an ID to vote. Why are Dems then so adamant about not requiring one to vote?

You left out the fact that the American public overwhelmingly supports it. Polls consistently show 75-80 percent support for voter ID laws.

What are you arguing for? Drivers licenses seems fairly obvious. A new form of federally issued ID? Or just any form of ID?

Very simple. A valid government issued ID and any other required documents if necessary to prove citizenship in order to register to vote, and a valid government ID when voting in order to prove you're the person who is registered to vote. This isn't an undue burden on anyone to acquire or present when registering and voting. It's a reasonable requirement to prove you're a citizen and to prove who you are. Anyone opposing that is looking for a way to cheat.
