ok...I couldn't resist responding to this one...
I'll transition to football thusly...
I'm going out on a limb here...the first touchdown you ever scored....you spiked it, didn't you?
First of all congratulations to the president and all of his supporters. Condolences to those who believed in Mitt Romney. Elections are inherently divisive, now is the time for us to put aside partisan acrimony and come together to solve our nation's many issues.
Second, I am in agreement with IrishJayhawk: when historians look back at our era decades from now, President Obama will be looked on favorably, perhaps even as one of the greats.
Third, I was impressed by Romney as a candidate, though he certainly did commit his share of unforced errors. As the Senate races proved, it is the GOP itself that held him back. The party is fighting battles on women's rights, gay marriage, immigration and other issues that are- over the long term- losing fights. A GOP that truly stood for limited government- in the bedroom as well the economy, overseas as well as at home- but did not go to the extremes of the libertarians could potentially assemble a huge coalition in today's America. Candidate Romney wanted that middle ground, but in the end the more extreme elements of his coalition prevented him from seizing it. The religious right's moment is coming to an end, they will soon be more of a burden to their party than boon.
Finally, where my vBucks at?
Actually I thought about it more and figured that the VP selection is what doomed Romney. I believe I said it on here when it happened.
Great post
To all the thoughtful and intellectually honest conservatives who argued in favor of Romney based on their convictions and ideals for the future of the country, it’s been a pleasure arguing with you. Keep pushing for your ideals, the country will be better off if honest people are engaging in debate.
To those who were certain that Romney would win, how about some accountability? This outcome is a triumph of evidence over opinion, and should provoke a strong reaction against all of the pundits and their followers who ignore data and promote an ideological interpretation of basic facts. It is not often that a debate on a thread like this can be resolved definitively, but this one was. You guys who came up with all kinds of anecdotal reasons why your guy would win were dead wrong. Debate is over, the evidence-based argument won. It would be nice if some of you would own up to it.
To those who spewed venom throughout the leadup to the election, who tried to provoke subtle racial hatred, who demonized the President and his supporters, who had no problem blatantly distorting words, opinions, and history: FU. You are hurting the country. This stuff comes from both sides, but in this election it was rampant on the Republican side and it was rampant from a small number of posters on this thread. It is a nice feeling to know that your distortions will be irrelevant for the next four years, and I will enjoy hearing you whine about it.
And to all, let’s get back to football. We’ve got an undefeated team that’s contending for a national championship, let’s get back to enjoying this run!
Romney is what doomed Romney. when he came out and said that 47 percent of the country saw themselves as victims who were content to suck off the government teet he threw any chance he had of winning out the window. His distain for the very people that he needed to win doomed him to defeat.
Thing is...he was right. I do believe that 47% of this country thinks they're victims.
It's a wake up call to this country. Cut the "woe is me" attitude and get out and work. Jobs are available. I can't drive to work without seeing help wanted signs on every corner.
And poliltical party has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of lazy conservatives out there.
We live in the times of Jersey Shore and Honey boo boo.....Kids that talk back to their parents and can't fight their own battles (this BS bullying movement). We want government to tell us what to eat, buy us cellphones, provide us with homes that we can't afford....
We're a nation of p*ssies. I'm running next election "Irishpat: Preventing the p*ssification of America"!
Wow....
Meltdown is coming in full effect here huh?
47% are lazy, It's all honey boo boo's fault, you're all pussies!
People that agree with you need to learn, the nation didn't accept this kind of rhetoric and it won't anytime soon.

Congrats on the victory Obama fans.
Hopefully the following issues can be addressed sooner rather than later. They should have bipartisan support.
1) Social Security - Add a month for every year starting at age 60 until three or four years are added (young people early retirement equals 65, full retirement at 70 and late retirement at 74 or so)
2) Corporate taxes - Lower top line rate to 20% - 25% and "pay for it" by eliminating as many loopholes as possible. Obama is sure to keep green job loopholes, concede it for the greater good. Small business can incorportate to save taxes if they want to reinvest for growth.
3) Defense spending will be cut, stop whining about it and do what you can to invest in capital (planes and ships) versus payroll. Let's see what happens with reduced spending for a while rather than promote the military industrial complex so vehemently.
4) See if there is any middle ground on promoting domestic energy. I think Obama is an ideologue on this issue and will only crack down harder.
5) I think they all puss out on Bush tax cuts and extend them as is. Not enough time to rewrite for just the rich and that does little for revenue since 80% of the "cost" is middle class cuts. This averts half of the fiscal cliff and likely is not extended more than a year or two, then it hits home. Combine half the fiscal cliff now and half later and we have good headwinds to much economic improvement for a couple of years. Oh, and Obamacare costs start coming on line so more headwinds to economic success. We just have to deal with it.

Do you realize that the 47% Romney blabbered about included seniors on Medicare and Medicade?Thing is...he was right. I do believe that 47% of this country thinks they're victims.

Life expectancy doens't really mean much....People are living longer and longer.
Right now there are over 51k people 100 years old or older....by 2030 that number will be over 300k!
While life expectancy is useful, it's not telling the whole story.
Also, I'm praying for Mark Warner in 2016. Socially liberal guy who really understands business and Government's role in facilitating the economy.
Congrats on the victory Obama fans.

If 2016 is between Warner and Christie I will be a very happy person and have a whole bunch of faith in this country. Two guys who I believe have great policies and although they differ on some things they would both be a huge step forward for this country IMO.
Romney had a great concession speech which only reiterated that the Republican primaries pushed him too far to the right to win. Hopefully Republicans realize this and move away from the religious extremists and the teabaggers.
I think you can find some middle ground on some of these. I would like to see the retirement age for social security raised to 68 and early retirement to 65 (with maybe an exemption for people who work in manual labor fields to still get early retirement at 62). I could possibly be talked into raising to 70 but I would want some really good concession.
I would like to see corporate rates cut to 28% and get rid of most of the deductuions (again I could be talked into 25% if you can show that it would revenue neutral and not Romney type math on revenue neutral)
Agreed on cutting military spending. It needs to happen but it needs to be done smartly.
I completely disagree on the energy part.
I am on the record of phasing in higher taxes on a couple of income brackets.
On people making over 1 million dollars I would raise their taxes by 6% but stagger it over 3 years raising it 2% each year
people making over 500K would see a 4 percent increase staggered over 3 years
people making over 250K would see a 2% increase staggered with no change in year 1 and a 1% increase each of the next 2
and people making over 100k would see a 1% increase in the third year (nothing before that).
Is this before or after the scheduled increases in 2013? Are these individuals or families?

And hopefully the left moves away from the OWS and tree huggers.....
Environmentalism will only get bigger when it becomes clearer and clearer that the world needs saving.
I agree with cutting deductions.
Social program reform is a must. SS will not last. You can delay it all you want, but it's going to go broke. Same with medicare. Simply taxing the citizens more isn't going to fix the problem if our government keeps using it as a spending account. Also, a system in which not everyone puts into, but gets the benefits, is doomed to fail anyway at some point. Besides, SS was never designed to be your retirement plan. Read the fine print.
My fear with these pushes for "more revenue" is that it doesn't solve the problems if we don't cut/curb spending or spend said revenue in the right place. It's amazing that no matter how much money the goverment takes in....it's never enough.
