The bolded is a completely valid viewpoint.
With that being said, I would make the counter argument that the Justice Department and FBI exist to enforce federal laws. This includes ensuring that local police departments follow the Constitution and other federal regulations. There has to be an enforcement arm of the executive branch, there isn't another mechanism to ensure that all states and local governments follow the Constitution.
Given that fact, when local policing issues cross the line from being a general malfeasance or negligence to violating the Bill of Rights/civil rights/other amendments and laws I don't see how the federal government can do anything other than intervene.
Don't completely disagree with you here. There has to be oversight - its the process that sucks. Go looking for someone to bust after the officer is validated in his shooting of the assailant criminal who did not say "hands up don't shoot" - must save face, quick send in the feds to tell everyone how racist the police are! That will heal the neighborhood, put accountability on those lacking civility and move us to judging people by their character instead of skin color.
Which is why back at it today after another drugged up criminal is killed at hands of po-po. The criminal behavior is rewarded - just get up in arms over some mostly feigned outrage so you can go get some free shit and riot. Not a good look in the eyes of most normal well adjusted folks who are too afraid to say anything and get targeted.
Wouldn't happen if we still had 3% unemployment, IMO - idle hands are the devil's play things.
