I haven’t done any extended searches for pictures or videos but the whole autonomous zone thing looks like a modern day Woodstock, from Snapchat.

I guess I don’t see the big deal besides painting artsy drawings on walls and streets.

They’ll all get bored and run out of things to do (or smoke) eventually.

Supposedly they're extorting the businesses in that area, taking cash to allow them to do business there. Otherwise, seems like a swell hippie commune with walls and armed guards, no police, and a kickass garden built on top of plywood with an inch of topsoil.

Saw this on the news this morning.

Police lounged in Bobby Rush’s office while Chicago’s South Side was looted
As many as 13 officers broke into the congressman’s campaign office while nearby businesses were vandalized in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

CHICAGO — As many as 13 Chicago police officers broke into Rep. Bobby Rush’s Chicago campaign offices to lounge on chairs, drink coffee and make popcorn while looters vandalized nearby businesses in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, Rush and Mayor Lori Lightfoot said on Thursday.

The two Illinois Democrats stood together at a news conference to call out the actions, which took place at the end of May. While they spoke, images of officers “in repose,” as Rush said, were flashed on a screen.

“Looting was going on, buildings were being burned, officers were on the front lines truly taking a beating with bottles and pipes, and these guys were lounging — in a congressman’s office,” Lightfoot said. “The utter contempt and disrespect is hard to imagine.”

The mayor added that “it’s almost inconceivable with what was going on … where looting continued into Monday morning, having started Saturday night.”

“Look at this guy, sleeping on a congressman’s couch,” Lightfoot said, pointing to an image of an officer.

Rush added: “They even had the unmitigated gall to go and make coffee for themselves and to pop popcorn — my popcorn — in my microwave while looters were tearing apart businesses within their sight and within their reach.”

Supt. David Brown of the Chicago Police Department, who was at the news conference, did not address the specific events but said: “Behavior reflects leadership, always. It’s a hard truth to take as a leader, that you’re responsible for the behavior of others.”

Rush’s campaign office, which has been closed since the primary in March, is in a strip mall that was looted over the weekend of May 30-31. Rush said his staff noticed someone had broken into the offices when they entered on Monday, June 1. Then they looked at the surveillance video, which showed officers sitting on chairs and one even taking a nap.

Lightfoot said the offices had been looted earlier in the weekend and that officers came in and out afterward over a period of four hours in the early hours of June 1.

“When you swear an oath to serve and protect, you are a Chicago police officer — not a police officer only for certain neighborhoods and only for certain times,” said the mayor, whose voice shook with emotion and who at one point wiped away tears.

Lightfoot showed an image of officers in the offices and said, “We know who you are and will find you.” She encouraged them to come forward on their own and pledged that the city would take “the strongest possible action — particularly with supervisors,” who were identified by their white shirts.

She called the police officers’ actions “deplorable … at a time when the city and their fellow officers needed them most.”

Lightfoot said that “their conduct will confirm the perception that too many people on the South and West sides were left to fend for themselves [and] that police don’t care if black and brown communities were looted and left to burn.”

The South and West sides were hit particularly hard by looting after the killing of Floyd, an African American man, at the hands of a white Minneapolis police officer on May 25. Chicago officials and activists called out Lightfoot and police officials for not doing enough to quell the violence, but Lightfoot said that police had responded to all of Chicago’s 50 wards evenly.

As Lightfoot noted on Thursday, she and Rush “haven’t always agreed on every issue, but today we are in total alignment in righteous anger” over the episode at his office.

Lightfoot also said she was moving ahead to work with Gov. J.B. Pritzker and state lawmakers to license police officers. “We must act,” she said.

I can't tell if you're being facetious here or haven't been watching the news in the last 24 hours. If you're talking about the original Texans forcing Mexicans out of the territory prior to statehood, you're about 170 years too late to fight that fight. Texas wasn't even a state yet! 1850 was a very different time and not exactly comparable to what is happening in modern times.

I've been on this for a few years, but maybe it's time for a peaceful civil war. We are beyond repairing the mental damage these leftists are showing. Let's carve out a few cities like Seattle, Portland, San Fran, build walls around them, let warlords run the show, and don't let anyone out.

Call it whatever you want to call it...police free zone, fascist free zone (ironic), Republican free zone, who cares. Let them have their experiment with utopia. And have a film crew there so we can put the entire debacle on Netflix for the world to see.

There's no reasoning or logic with these people. Give them exactly what they want.

I hope Seattle loses everything. All federal funding, I hope all the business leave and I hope the entire police force goes to other places to work.

That place is a complete shit hole and always has been. The politicians should be made to resign.

Turn of the water, the electric and cable let’s see how long they last.

I saw an article that this wasn’t actually true.

But if you are offended by a cartoon dog as a cop on show that doesn’t nothing but promote teamwork and help others. You are a fucking moron.

Yes, I guess I have not, been tied up and did not see the news about the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone. Will have to check with a family member who lives in the "zone". Doubt it is a big deal. A poster here may be able to provide some insight.

Google the Republic of Texas militia, their website and the Fort Davis takeover in1997 and texasmilitia.info site. 40,000 members? Or an article in Texas Monthly "Fed Up". Their Mission - To reestablish sovereignty of Texas, which “is not and never will be a state.”

Are they accepting new members?

Having checked in with family in the area, this is essentially what it amounts to. You get pretty tired of the media pursuing the latest stories that pursue some theme and blowing them up. Checking Fox News, you would think anarchists reign, burning buildings, taking over the police dept and mayor's office, looting. These are people who are unarmed and, typically, the Proud Boys came in from other WA towns like Skagit, heavily armed. Patriot Prayer probably came from Portland, but I did not hear about them. Their mission boils down to anarchism like the Antifa, although they want separatism too. But their presence is to make a big deal on whatever rights they think need defending and a cultural divide that necessitates separating the country. However, there was an incident where a right wing extremist drove his car through a protest crowd and shot someone.

The looting in the days prior was organized with people coming in vans with that purpose and leave. The occupiers are not going to take a TV to watch in the streets of the Zone.

But there is a history of excessive use of force with Seattle PD and who used chemical agents and rubber bullets early on until the Mayor banned them. Like many other PDs there is little accountability. That response by the PDpretty much took it to a different level. Gas on a fire. As well as any threat Trump makes. The A Zone people will leave after a while. Maybe a number of them get C-19 and it resurges, which would be too bad.

What we have discussed on the board.

Dude you're a dem cliche right now. You clutched your pearls when some rednecks peacefully protested in Michigan (while at the same time there were armed AAs too), now you're doing your best to diminish what is absolutely far more egregious.

They did take over the police department. They said it was going to be a Covid relief building lol...

And they are armed.

And they are prohibiting businesses from functioning, not to mention reports of intimidation and extortion. (I have friends in the area too)

And quit acting like Antifa is not playing a part. There are Antifa signs all over the place now. And even some Antifa girl did some kind of vid describing the efforts.

And one of the organizers (Raz) beat up a guy who was tagging over someone else's graffiti. The vids out there if you want to see it.

I was watching the news at work today with some coworkers and video of the Chazians and armed rioters was playing. I pointed out that they were carrying "assault weapons" according the Left and all such weapons were evil according to the liberals. A woman in the room said they weren't assault weapons since they were using them for defensive purposes. Sigh. You can't fix this level of stupid and hypocritical.

Even more dumb stuff. Denver and several other cities are removing School Resource Officers....

With this, and the whole defund the police effort, what happens next time there is an active shooter at a school. Will be interesting to see how well the Lib bubble protects children.

Meanwhile, record gun sales being reported. A neighbor tried to buy one earlier this week. He said the stores he went to were mostly tapped out and there's a waiting list.

Shouldn't the women be upset that it appears CHAZ is being run by a male warlord and the men have the weapons? Are the women responsible for growing the vegetables and providing "entertainment"???

Antifa hates all masculinity, so some of the guys might be hard to identify. I doubt the Antifa folks are fans of Raz the warlord though. They'd much prefer a man bun to dreads.

In addition to what nearby family reports reflected above and that the differences between the Bellevue and Seattle PD in their approach to community protests, the Seattle PD has been under a consent decree since 2011 spanning three Presidents due to the death of a citizen in their custody.

The U.S. Attorney, Seattle's mayor and the police chief were petitioning the court to end the consent decree, meeting some benchmarks, but the protests happened. Now there have been 12,000 complaints over one weekend to the Seattle Office of Police Accountability. The mayor has withdrawn the petition to lift the consent decree. Blacks are disproportionately impacted by use of force and court-determined violation of constitutional rights. An accountability ordinance in 2017 was neutralized by a new police contract in 2018.

Community trust in the Seattle PD is eroded after the response to protests after some progress towards police accountability to the community. That has been frustratingly stymied. They will have some decisions to make regarding contracts, funding, and reaching strong enforcement provisions.

Meanwhile, Washington is an open carry state, "shall issue" state for concealed carry permits, and state law pre-empts any local law on more restrictive laws. Seattle is being sued for passing more restrictive ones. I suppose if one sees semi-automatic, "assault" rifles being carried by extremists on either side or potentially facing off against each other, they are exercising constitutional rights.

Debate over policing in Seattle continues after years of federal oversight

Much of these issues are similar to other PDs and cities across the nation.

Sniff sniff...

So, Obama made one of Seattle Police Chiefs his Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and later Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and invited another to his last SOTU to credit her with police reform. The current police chief is a female AA.

Seattle is also considered by most a top 5 in the "most liberal" city category. Like MN which has been under long time Dem rule, perhaps we should question things.

'I can't breathe': Oklahoma City police release video after 2019 in-custody death of asthmatic man
By Austin WilliamsPublished 1 day ago, FOX TV Digital Team

A couple of excerpts of two deaths in Oklahoma with both victims saying "I can't breathe" prior to dying:

OKLAHOMA CITY - Body camera footage released on June 8 shows a fatal 2019 encounter involving Oklahoma City police and 42-year-old Derrick Scott, who told officers “I can’t breathe,” as police pinned him to the ground.

In the footage, which was filmed by police body cams during the May 20, 2019 arrest, three officers can be seen restraining Scott, who was asthmatic, as he repeatedly asks for his medicine and says he can’t breathe. The footage features one officer saying, “I don’t care,” while another says, “You can breathe just fine.”

Police said they recovered a handgun from Scott’s pants pocket during the arrest. Scott was allegedly attempting to rob a taco truck, according to an autopsy report following his death.

Paramedics were called when Scott became unresponsive, and he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to a statement from Oklahoma City police.

On Tuesday, Tulsa police released video and said they were investigating officers who recently handcuffed and arrested two black teenagers for jaywalking. Video of the June 4 incident showed officers forcibly pinned one of the two unidentified teens stomach-down on the ground.

“Get off me! I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” one teen shouts in the police video.

“You can breathe just fine,” the officer replies.

Trump will speak in Tulsa on June 20th, rescheduled due to Juneteenth at the request of Congressmen. The1921 Tulsa Race Massacre which I posted previously occured May 31st-June 1st. (linked)

At least, both PDs were wearing body cams though it took a year in the first case.

Fox News runs digitally altered images in coverage of Seattle’s protests, Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (Seattle Times)

06122020_Fox05_181017-1020x544.jpg

This digitally manipulated image was published on the Fox News homepage on June 12 with stories about Seattle. The image combines scenes from a June 10 photograph from Capitol Hill with two May 30 images from downtown.

Fox News published digitally altered and misleading photos on stories about Seattle’s Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) in what photojournalism experts called a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.

As part of a package of stories Friday about the zone, where demonstrators have taken over several city blocks on Capitol Hill after Seattle police abandoned the East Precinct, Fox’s website for much of the day featured a photo of a man standing with a military-style rifle in front of what appeared to be a smashed retail storefront.

The image was actually a mashup of photos from different days, taken by different photographers — it was done by splicing a Getty Images photo of an armed man, who had been at the protest zone June 10, with other images from May 30 of smashed windows in downtown Seattle. Another altered image combined the gunman photo with yet another image, making it appear as though he was standing in front of a sign declaring “You are now entering Free Cap Hill.”

Fox’s site had no disclaimers revealing the photos had been manipulated. The network removed the images after inquiries from The Seattle Times.

In addition, Fox’s site for a time on Friday ran a frightening image of a burning city, above a package of stories about Seattle’s protests, headlined “CRAZY TOWN.” The photo actually showed a scene from St. Paul, Minnesota, on May 30. That image also was later removed.(cont)
