The DeKalb incident makes the cops sound like the Three Stooges, but with guns and innocent lives at risk. And I'm seriously not trying to make a joke.

1. You enter the wrong house without announcing yourself
2. You shoot a dog at the house that you think you are responding to for a burglary; you are showing up to help the homeowners, but you shoot the resident dog?
3. You shoot an innocent man, WITHOUT KNOWING IF HE IS A BURGLAR OR NOT
4. You shoot one of your own officers in the chaos??? How fit are you to carry a gun if you are a risk to shoot another officer in a moment of chaos and panic?

It's truly ridiculous. Holy hell.

Can't imagine the outrage from the #BlackLivesMatter folks if the officers weren't all black.

Yes, it actually happened.

I live in DeKalb. All things government are a F***ing joke. Try getting an officer to respond to a theft, try getting a simple permit..... most schools are a joke (the elementary and HS near me are exceptions) and they had a major cheating scandal last year (teachers cheating). Corruption with the sewer/water department... The DeKalb county CEOs have been a joke leading back to Vernon Jones, to recently convicted and suspended Burrell Ellis. Just yesterday, search warrants were issued for the interim CEO Lee May.

Just today on my way home, I passed a WSB (local ABC) action news van doing a segment outside of Brocket Elementary (one of the more sought after elementary schools in the area). Have no clue what it's about, but nothing would surprise me.

Trayvon Martin killed and Obama has a press conference. NBA player comes out as gay and gets a phone call from Obama. Targeted cop killings nationwide and...silence. Speaks volumes, sadly.

Sigh. I wouldn't exactly call it silence.

Obama: Targeting police is 'completely unacceptable'

In a statement, Obama asked for support of police families.

"I also promised that I would continue to highlight the uncommon bravery that police officers show in our communities every single day. They put their lives on the line for our safety," Obama said in the statement. "Targeting police officers is completely unacceptable — an affront to civilized society."

ETA:
The White House said Obama called Kathleen Goforth from Air Force One Monday on his way to Alaska, and offered condolences. She is the widow of Harris County Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth, whose death has recieved national attention because authorities believe it may be linked to a backlash over police shootings of unarmed black men. On Monday, 30-year-old Shannon J. Miles was arraigned on Monday on a murder charge that could bring the death penalty.

As usual you only see what you want to see.

I'm glad he did what he did. I follow left wing and right wing outlets all over social media and didn't come across this. Glad you pointed it out.

I like what he said in the statement, and I really like that he called the widow. I think that a press conference may have been preferable to a statement though.

I am not surprised that you missed it as many news sites didn't cover it. It seems that the news sites (both liberal and conservative) only want to cover the controversial and the President doing what he should do, just doesn't get the needle moving.

Any other locations having a problem with drunk cops? We just had another cop hit and kill a person last night that was drunk. Makes me f-cking sick. We've had like 5 different instances where cops have been busted boozing and driving their cop car in the last two years. And that isn't including that jackass Bisard that ran over a motorcyclist hop up on a fifth (found empty in his car) of vodka while on patrol.

My guess is this is the most under-reported crime in America, too. As long as they don't kill anyone, what cop is going to turn another cop in for DUI? They get a pass for it. Everyone else loses their license, their job, and probably more.

That and they know they're not going to be pulled over in their cop car.

You would think they would have a clearer thought then that. Time for that police chief to make a stand against this.

Their was an officer here that wrecked his own car and left the scene after drinking. The sheriff put him on leave with out pay and then fire after his court date.

Well yeah, that's assuming they're doing it on duty or whatever. That is even more brazen than I was thinking about. But in most small towns in America, if a cop pulls over a Camaro that is swerving a little and speeding, and the cop gets to the window and is greeted with a badge, they say "how's it going?" and get back in their car and drive away. I know this because I have cop friends and they talk about it like it's cool.

The video was pretty hard to watch, but consider this:

According to the girl’s classmates, School Resource Officer (SRO) Ben Fields was called to the classroom when the Spring Valley High School student refused to put her phone away and leave the room at her teacher’s request. The teacher first called an administrator to remove the her, but the girl did not budge. When Fields arrived at the scene, the student refused his orders to get up.

At what point are these kids responsible for showing at least some respect for authority? I mean, the teacher, an administrator, and then a cop.............. and this girl STILL wouldn't put her phone away? I'm not saying that she deserved to be manhandled like she was, but don't kids also have to change their behaviors in cases like this?

Saw this yesterday, don't think the cop did anything wrong and it seems like most of her classmates thought the cop did nothing wrong.

1. Teacher reasonably asks her to leave the room. She refuses.
2. Administrator reasonably asks her to leave the room. She refuses.
3. Cop allegedly asked her a half dozen times to get out of her seat or he would be forced to physically remove her. She refused.
4. Cop allegedly then cleared away a bunch of objects around the desk to make sure there was open area for him to remove her.
5. Cop allegedly warned her a final time that he would have to physically remove her.
6. Cop starts pulling her gently out the desk... she grabs on and refuses to budge... and then he escalates force in order to remove her.

I'm 100% against police brutality. IMO, there is nothing in that video that comes close to unreasonable force AND I don't know what anyone could've done differently when the last resort is forcibly removing her from the desk.

I hear ya Lax. Me too. Here is a local newscast video adding some interviews and such. The resource officer is also the football DL and S/C coach. He also arrested another student for trying to intervene.

I am not necessarily opposed to using some physical force to move the student. This incident goes so far beyond what I would consider acceptable unless she was physically attacking him. She wasn't a threat to him and he choked her and flipped the desk. Why?

This. If this is how people who work in schools are trained to deal with obstinant children, there is a huge problem. If another student would have flipped her desk and rag dolled her like that, there would be an expulsion and possibly a law suit. Not sure why the same would not be true in this case.
