Fuck these cops, fleeing isn't a capital crime, or an action that inherently puts the officers in danger. The family's attorney isn't completely out of line when he compared the footage to Rodney King's beating.

If these guys some how get off, Memphis will explode and we will have nationwide protests. At least some and probably most of those protests will devolve into rioting, that gets air time and then people retreat to our corners and we wait for the cycle to start again.

I'd like to point out that there have already be peaceful protests. With the amount of attention the inverse gets I think it's important to note.

This has nothing to do with race or politics. 5 bad police officers acted outrageous and their actions are unacceptable. They should be charged with murder. End of story.

Yeah, there's nothing good or acceptable about this. This is an explanation, NOT an excuse. Cops deal with so much asshattery, buffoons, stupidity, threats to themselves, and dealing with total jackals, that I think that some of them just become overwhelmed and frustrated, and boil over. And you then get something like this. I realize the victim here ran and resisted, but the cops' reaction was WAY overblown in response.

May get laughed off the thread for this but my buddy who is a cop has told me multiple times that cops should be mandated to go to therapy because of demands of the job...Dont know if it prevents something like this from happening, but I don't see how it can't help at least a little.

No defending what they did. The mobs destroying cities despite the fact that the cops were charged and the officers weren’t exactly pale doesn’t make sense to me, but then again it never does. I agree. 8-12 hours per day dealing with all they deal with and seeing humanity at its worst all too often is akin to combat in its toll on the human psyche. Just as combat soldiers get rotated off the line to decompress and recover their sanity, so should cops. Maybe a regularly scheduled week or month away from the "front" to do investigative work, traffic, admin, PR... anything to take a break from the drunks, molesters, wife beaters, murderers, drug dealers, arrest resisters, and etc.
