My heart sinks when I think of his sons and wife. Their whole life flipped upside down just like that. RIP

I know it's mostly due to the age of technology and minute to minute news but the evilness of humanity seems to be in the forefront these days.

Gunfight in Cincinnati street leaves officer, suspect dead

Gunfight in Cincinnati street leaves officer, suspect dead
Associated Press By LISA CORNWELL

A gunfight erupted on a city street Friday between a suspect and police responding to a 911 call about an erratic armed man, killing a longtime officer and the suspect.
Officer Sonny Kim, a decorated 27-year veteran of the Cincinnati Police Department, died along with the suspect in the shooting shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the Madisonville neighborhood, Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said. Both died at a Cincinnati hospital.

"Our hearts are broken," Blackwell said, choking back tears at a news conference Friday afternoon. "We lost a brother."

Details of the gunfight and what preceded it are sketchy. Blackwell said some sort of struggle broke out in the street.

"We're not sure which officers involved actually fired rounds," Blackwell said earlier Friday. "We're not sure how many rounds were fired. We just know that multiple shots were fired between the suspect and responding officers."

...

The shooting comes nine days after Cincinnati police released a plan for dealing with a recent surge of gun violence in the city. The police chief said then that shootings were up 28 percent over last year.

I hate seeing this. RIP Officer Kim.

It seems like gun violence has increased in Cincinnati greatly over the last two months. It is very odd to see how it has escalated so quickly.

New Orleans police officer killed while transporting - CNN.com

By Steve Almasy and John Newsome, CNN
Updated 5:47 PM ET, Sat June 20, 2015

A manhunt is underway in New Orleans after a suspect being transported to prison allegedly shot and killed the police officer who was driving him, officials said.

New Orleans police officer Daryle Holloway was shot in his patrol car while transporting 33-year-old Travis Boys on Saturday morning, police said. Holloway died at a hospital.

The prisoner was allegedly able to free himself from handcuffs, grab a weapon, and shoot Holloway as he drove, the New Orleans Fraternal Order of Police said, citing the police superintendent.

The initial investigation indicates that after Boys shot Holloway, the police vehicle crashed and the suspect fled, New Orleans police said in a statement.

Police said a manhunt was underway to capture Boys.

Police Superintendent Michael Harrison praised Holloway, a 22-year veteran of the force, and prayed for his family

"Officer Holloway was a dedicated police officer who proudly served his community for more than 20 years and was a father of three. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him," the chief said.

Holloway, 45, was taking Boys from the police department to Orleans Parish Prison. Boys was arrested on outstanding warrants and also face a charge of aggravated battery, police said

I found out how cop dogs die of heat exhaustion by the way...

K9 Jimmy and K9 Hector died of heat exhaustion after accidentally being left in their handler's vehicle following his shift and a callout to assist a neighboring agency.

Their handler had completed his midnight shift when the other agency requested Jimmy to conduct a track of a critically missing person. Following the search the handler returned home. Approximately nine hour later he discovered that Hector and Jimmy had been left in the back of the department vehicle and were both deceased.

Read more: K9 Jimmy, Hialeah Police Department, Florida

I thought K-9s were actual cops? I thought if you assaulted, or God forbid kill one, you faced the same charges as killing a human officer?

Welp... we'll see how many years their handlers get for suffocating those two to death.

I believe most states they are. I can't believe they left them in the car that long to die, that's your partner inexcusable. I have a buddy of mine that has a dog to track drugs and people. He was telling me the cost per dog now is like 17,000. That's a lot of money tied up in a dog but they do help. We have a lot of senior house complexs that have older people walk away and with out the dogs some of those people would have probably been dead. The bomb dogs are getting more and more popular.

Police officer and fire officer shot in NC

Just put out not much detail. Apparently their is a structure on fire as well. All I can see is that it's Wilkes county.

No offense, and my condolences to the officer, but are you planning on starting a new thread every time a police officer is shot somewhere in the country? There were roughly 1,500 officers that died from a gunshot in the line of duty last year with many more shot with injury. I can appreciate your caring thoughts for officers, but they are coming off as disingenuous now.

I don't disagree with your point about new threads but it looks like 134 officers were killed in the line of duty in 2014, with 47 coming from gunfire.

I agree that there doesn't need to be a new thread for every shooting death this year, whether it be a police officer, someone killed by a police officer, or anyone else.

Let's try and limit new threads to national stories that have some element of uniqueness or have garnered national attention.

And Jughed--there are better ways to show your frustration than creating a thread mocking these types of posts. Really poor taste.

What is wrong with a 9/11 avatar? And I am addressing the multiple threads so there's no need for you to take matters into your own hands.

Of course. That's the thing about 9/11 avatars, there's never anything wrong with them or the poster's motives.

Nothing against you, it's just boring. If you have something to say, say it already.

And when I say "you" I hope you know I don't mean you. I was being... oh, whatever... you know, man.

I understand your frustration but there are better ways to vent. There's also an "ignore" function if you don't like what a poster does.

I'm actually inclined to agree with Jughed on this one. While he may be presenting his point a little too bluntly, I understand his premise. This is like the third or fourth thread that irish1014 has started about a random police shooting. Well... there are around 1,500 police shooting deaths a year with a bunch more that survive. Should we expect a new thread for every one of them? I get that there is a sensitivity because of recent high profile police shootings, but these recent threads being made about police shootings that are simply local news, not national. They are getting old and they seem quite disingenuous. They also take away some of the seriousness of the national incidents, imo. Combine them into one thread or simply don't bother posting them. Police unfortunately die in the line of duty, while it is always incredibly tragic, it isn't always newsworthy. That may sound insensitive, but its the truth.

If I wanted to read a forum filled with police blotter info, then I wouldn't be on Irish Envy.
