First of all, this is hilarious.
Second of all THIS LITERALLY JUST HAPPENED TO ME.
There I was just having used all 30 minutes of my incense and ready to finish my Netflix and call it a night when I see an unfamiliar "shadow" in my nearby pokemon. I think "what is THAT? .. I don't recognize that at... wait... is that a... a... FLAREON?!" Yes, it was a Flareon. But it's 11 o'clock at night. Dark. Phone battery dying.
I have to pump myself up a bit at this point. "It's ok. Maybe it's just within the apartment complex! That sounds safe! 10% battery? That's enough!" So I venture out. It's three "steps" away. Maybe at the far end of the complex. So I take off in that direction. About 10 steps that way and it goes from second closest pokemon to sixth closest pokemon... UGH. That means it is most likely in the shady neighborhood behind the apartment complex. This is when spongebob comes to mind. "You are spongebob. You can do this."
I head toward the back of the complex and sure enough, Flareon jumps back into second in the 'closest Pokemon to this guy' race. Pro: closer to Flareon. Con: closer to shady neighborhood. "You are spongebob. You can do this." So I continue toward the back gate. One mankey pops up - not important. Then two mankeys - NOT IMPORTANT, FOCUS ON THE GOAL. Then I get to the back gate. This is it... the great beyond. If I take one more step, this will be the farthest from ho- just kidding, I'm not Frodo and I've been back there before. Deep breath, "you are spongebob", I open the gate. A few steps later and the Flareon is only one "step" away. "I'm gonna catch this mofo! ... or get shot... I hope I don't get shot".
As I approach the street corner (I'm really hoping not to have to cross the street) it happens. Flareon pops up! One click and suddenly I'm immersed in the battle of a lifetime. I nail it on the first throw - a perfect throw - but it escapes. I miss. I hit. It escapes. As we dual on this dark street corner it occurs to me that I'm standing on a dark street corner at 11pm trying to catch a pokemon... "this is awesome". Flareon and I continue our dance as he starts to angrily defy my poke ball throws. I'm scared at this point that he will run away like that Dugtrio did the other day. But finally, as if something out of a dream, my daring bravery pays off. Flareon stays in the ball. He's mine.
I start to walk back to the apartment complex in pure euphoria and I realize: that was one hell of an adrenaline rush! I check my pokemon inventory - Flareon - CP 409! By far the strongest pokemon I've caught! I've been walking on cloud 9 ever since (so for about 20 minutes now).
TL;DR this game is both addicting and awesome and now I have a Flareon because I wasn't THAT afraid of the dark
