Played nobody in the non conference(beat Fresno State by 3 in double OT and Georgia Southern by 3). Their division in the Big Ten is a dumpster fire. Still not 100% sold on him and Minnesota.

Just imagine what he could do with higher caliber players. Hell just imagine what could happen when he gets his own players.

Im just so impressed with what Fleck has done with poor talent.

I meant he took Kelly's scraps and made a captain out of it (MDT).

He's got talent where he needs it. He has the biggest OL in the NFL, he has one of the top WR threesomes in college, His QB is perfect for what he does and does it near perfectly... was a 10,000/100TD QB in Cincy(KY). DB's are playing excellent this year.

Just imagine what he could do with higher caliber players. Hell just imagine what could happen when he gets his own players.

Most of the players that are winning him games are his players:

QB Morgan
WR Bateman & Autman-Bell
OL IMG monster twins = Faalele & Dunlap
TE Jake Paulson
S Winfield & Howden

Plus 3 GT's he brought in on D.

This. Tyler Johnson and Rashod Bateman are both Day1/2 WR's accprding to most scouts/rankings, and their 2 top RBs are better than any ND has. It's not necessarily about how much talent you have (according to 247 composite, they're the 46th most talented), but where that talent is. A good/great QB with great skill players can take you a LONG way. Plus, I think he's the best young coach in the country, he has a Dabo like charisma to him and that's ultra inspiring to young 18-21 yo kids.

Might be but don't get any ideas, he's on ND's Do Not Hire List.

My guess it will be similar to the coaches with Minnesota jumping into the top 10 (#7) and Penn State falling out (#11).

I would 100% pass on PJ Fleck at ND.
Good for Minnesota, but have you seen their cupcake schedule? Good win for Minnesota vs. Penn State, but go play the big boys in the Big 10, and keep doing it year after year...then maybe we can talk PJ Fleck at ND.

Like all the big boys Kelly played at Cincy?

I'd pick PSU straight up against this ND team. What does that say about Kelly?

Nothing.

And Kelly coaching career pre Cincy >>>>> Fleck's pre Minn

PJ Fleck can keep rowing his boat somewhere else. I dont think I could handle hearing his name or that silly phrase over and over again. I know it sounds petty but it would bug the **** out of me.

Serious question. Do you think any ND coach would be able to bring in multiple 5* per year like the big boys do? I'm sceptical. Chase Young and Justin Fields arent coming to ND to play for any coach.

If you win, I think so. Weis and Kelly both brought in an average of two 5* players in their first three classes. Weis' teams fell off a cliff and hurt recruiting by 2009. Kelly just stopped recruiting elite players and settled for RKGs.

Doubt we ever get 4 or 5 per class but I don't think asking for 2 per year is outrageous.

Always funny when people post statements like this as if it’s fact when it’s not even close to being true. They go after plenty of 5* players just not all of them. They go after the ones that they feel are RKGs or do you think none exist?

Yes, there is obviously some sarcasm in that statement. I’m sure they go after guys but they just don’t land them. Why was he able to land seven 5* guys his first three years and only two the last six years? (Per Rivals).

OK but Jimmy Clauen did. Tyler Buchner is.

The hardest positions to recruit 5-star players will always be the ones where the talent is concentrated in the deep south. Running backs, defensive line, etc.

Beyond that, it isn't some crazy sell job to get kids to come to ND. You just need a product they believe in.

To me it's more about having at least one 5* talent at every level of the defense, at QB, OL, and at WR or RB.

1 QB
1 RB or WR
1 OL

1 DL
1 LB
1 DB

That's 6 5*over 3 years. I think that is a realistic goal.

I'm all for that but when was the last time we had it? 91-92?

Most of the 5* players want the quickest, most sure fire way to the NFL. Many football factories offer this (and more I'm sure) whereas ND makes them go to real school. There will be a Jaylon Smith or a Jimmy Clausen every once in awhile for us but I'm just sceptical of the sustainability. One reason Kelly stopped going all out on the highest level recruits was the flame out rate - Bryant, Redford, Vanderdoes, etc. Putting in all the resources for these guys just to see them not cut it at ND was backfiring in a big way.

So back to Fleck, I'm not convinced he would bring those guys in consistently either.

I'm not saying this is it, that we've peaked as a program and cant get over the hump. Our 2020 and 2021 classes are the type of classes that, when stacked 4-5 in a row, get you to the elite level. We are seemingly finally winning the games we should win every time. It's those 50/50 games or the underdog games that we struggle. Those games start breaking our way with higher level athletes and more speed. I think we are finally "rowing the boat" in that direction and we want to blow it up because we cannot be patient.

Or..............Would he usher in a change to landscape of our home games to actually catch up with most of the rest of CFB and provide a hostile environment to our opponents and give us an actual home field advantage. A change that a large portion of our fans desire. A change that could excite the fans, the staff, the players, and the recruits. A change we would see on the field.
I'm not saying fire BK. I'm not saying send a Brinks truck for Fleck. But I don't see a reason to believe his motivational style would burn out fast. BK's red face, screaming, over dramatic gestures towards his players hasn't burned out. I can't imagine someone being over excited and over positive deep rooted in who he is and paired with a very personal situation from his personal life being a huge issue for anyone. As long as he can keep it in his pants, he'd be fine.

We currently have a 16 game home winning streak which puts us behind Clemson, UCF and Ohio State.

im not even sure its about having guys ranked as 5* by the services.

For instance next years class with Michael Mayer, Tosh Baker, Jordan Botelho, and Rylie Mills all 4*s by the services but considered in the top 10 in their positions.

Those should be 3 year starters/contributors and future NFLers.

I don't think its out of the realm for ND to recruit at the recent trend long term.

As most have noted its about winning, which were doing, and the players are coming as we say they will.

Fleck has a large buyout after this year. Isn't leaving until year after.
