This is the very point I've been trying to make and got nailed on this subject. There is an obvious reason why these guys are changing their mind. With that said I still say let them go as you need 'Teo' type guys committed to the program. But there is no doubt in my mind that they are changing their minds because they are football players first and dont want the interference of a stern challange on education standards. Kelly will win games because he knows how to put the ball in the endzone and is a very good college coach. But the type of players that other Notre Dame coaches had to play with are just not going to come. Kids today dont give a $#@! about their education when they perceive themselves as future pros. In many ways I cant disagree with them other than to say what are you going to do if you dont make it to the NFL. This impacts the defense more than the offense but the concept is the same. Kelly will win and bring respectability back but Notre Dame has an uphill climb that may not result in championship type excellance unless they find a compromise. When you loose 3/4 recruits that other places easily gobble up you are not desirable to those players and dont tell me its the South Bend weather.Im just afraid the floodgates may open on us. Not terribly worried about the fate of next year. But more that it will be harder to get high caliber guys to come to ND.

weather wasnt a factor in past years with other coaches-I know I'm not supposed to bring up the past days but the fact is weather has little to do with it when Notre Dame is upon excellance. And yes I have recruited. I think it has more to do with the work required to get thru once they get in.you ever recruit before? ahaha
In this day and age early commitments mean nothing. Faxed signatures on NSD are how you shape your class...
We "gobble up" players who are former commits to other schools, ever school faces the same situation.
Unfortunately weather is a factor, and South Bend isnt exactly South Beach North. Try talking to a kid from GA or FL who has never traveled past Tennessee about weather...YES weather is important to them
When you look at who we've lost, it's both dire and not-so-dire depending on what happens with other recruits:
Justice: this is a big deal if we don't get Savon. If we do get Savon it's only a big deal if Cierre gets hurt or we don't grab a good back next year.
Lynch: Not a big deal if we get Ishaq and keep Tuitt. If we end up with neither of them then this was a big loss.
Prestwood: I could care less. Seriously.
In the end, no reason to panic, let's see how things turn out on NSD.

Listen, it's undeniable that what's happened with our recruiting over the last month has been bad. Anyone who says otherwise is such a preposterous biased pollyana-esque fan that their opinion can be afforded no weight. That, however, does not mean that de-commits should be unexpected, nor does it mean that this is the end of the world.
I would trade Huggins for Hayes, Lynch for Drew (or Williams, Chikillo or Scarlett for that matter), and Prestwood for Niklas any day of the week. You can then throw in French, Shuler and Golson as the cherry on top.
This can still be a very strong class. The issue is that it could also result in us failing to close with these guys. Everything hangs in the balance right now, and it's important for the recruiters and the team to close strong so that we can wrap up a solid class. Things certainly can go south at this point and we could be in big trouble - but that's far from a certainty, and lets try not to work ourselves into a panic over it just yet.
I am not saying that weather is the end all be all....but its a "factor"
Other factors that a player might consider is, location...see where I am going with this?
you notice we has 3 great recruits from FL, who flipped there commits to schools in....FL
bottom line, 18 year old kids are not going to see 4 years down the road. ND financially and educationally might be far more beneficial for a kid, but he isn't going to buy it.
ESPNU just had it's recruiting insider show on television. They spent the last two minutes of the show saying nothing about Everett Golson or Cam McDaniel but rather bashed us for Justice Hayes. They said that our campus is impressive but after the initial impact of the visit wears off, Notre Dame plays second fiddle to more important and relevant schools. Michigan more relevant than ND?[/QUOTE
thats why i cant stand espn they try to dictact certain colleges reputations because of the t.v. contracts wouldnt mind sitting down and talking to them s.o.b's eye to eye.....

I'll look forward to seeing what Justice does against Teo, Shembo and others.
Again, Denard is their RB. I can't say that I understand why he'd go there or why he thinks that Rich Rod is a more stable coach than Brian Kelly. That type of judgement reaffirms that ND isn't the right place for him.
Michigan's players play for the names that are on the back of their jerseys and ND plays for the names that are on the front of theirs.
