Mel Kiper just came out with his list of top 5 jr's to be at each position. Here's the link:

NFL Draft: Mel Kiper's Top 5 by position - ESPN

Now, I know a lot of folks around here HATE espn and everything associated with it, but personally I love Mel Kiper. He's the best at what he does, and he has a bottomless pit of information. His radio show on Saturdays is fantastic.

However, I do have one bone to pick here:

1) Maust is the #2 punter on the board. Apparently all Kiper did was watch ND games from 2 years ago, when Maust was actually good. This year he sucked. Sorry. The freshman will give him some comp, and Maust better raise his game to where it used to be. I do love the ND love at at east one spot though.

Also:

**Sam Young was #4 at his position (based on name and size only, not on consistency and nastiness, that's fo' sho').

**No ND players on defense (not surprised there)...

Sam Young will be a senior next year if I'm not mistaken. Golden Tate will be a junior.
Maust will be a senior as well.
I'm a little confused as to what class we are talking about...

I do believe his is talking about players who last season where juniors or 3 years out of college. So Golden would not apply.

Good point! Now I'm confusing myself. I f***ed up. Never mind on the GTate thing then. I saw Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy's names there and I assumed they met jr/s to be when I saw the headline 'jr.s'. But those are redshirt sophs. I'll fix it above. Just shows how weak the about-to-be senior class has become with all the defections, injuries, and lack of development...

Mel Kiper is a moron. Justifying Stafford as a #1 pick is crazy.

If the Detroit Lions still have the #1 pick when that time comes I will bet you all the vbucks I have at that point that Stafford won't be the pick. I'll justify that with saying this.... If the Lions go out and grab a couple lineman in free agency then I might say ok... The fact is that Culpepper will be the starter, if he gets hurt then the pressure will mount to play Stafford and he will utterly be destroyed.
The Lions greatest need in this draft is Defense. They have nothing. I say take Curry and pay him less than you'd pay Stafford. By all accounts he is a safe bet, where not many junior QBs amount to much. Stafford and Sanchez are jumping the QB class of next year.

So if you take Stafford 1st, then you settle for the 6 or 7th best OL at 26 and maybe a TE at 33. Or take Curry #1, take a DL at 26 and maybe a corner at 33.

Saying he is the most talented in the draft, in this draft, is akin to settling for that group of girls fat friend. I wouldn't touch either one in this draft and would wait for next years bumper crop.

Tim Hiller is a good QB, however, I am a homer. I just graduated from WMU. His size is good and his arm is strong. Just like they say Josh Freeman from KSU is a good QB. His numbers are good, he just didn't have good stats from college.

aaron curry isnt the best player in the draft. and hes not the pick that detroit needs. they run a 4-3 and took dizon from colorado like a year ago and earnie sims 2 years before that. if they need anything its offensive line or a qb even though they have kitna who isnt just terrible he throws a lot of int's but he had no time that season. orlovsky ran outta the endzone so he doesnt count. sad to say bc im a former daunte culpepper fan but hes old and lost it. drew henson will never start. drew stanton should get a shot if they dont pick up a qb in the draft or sign jeff garcia or another free agent qb.

I agree in theory. Reminds me of the Mario Williams - Reggie Bush - Vince Young debate a few years ago. The Lions should get an every down player that can contribute immediately rather than a part-time player (Bush) or someone trying to find himself (Young). They cannot afford many more f-ups.

When Michael Flloyd enters the draft I believe he will be a top first round pick
